A fantastic year for the national side, possibly our best ever! We reached the quarter final of the World Cup in our first ever appearance in the competition, and only lost 2 games all year! We did have one pretty embarrassing loss away to Macedonia in a friendly, but it was just a freak result in the middle of some very good form so it's not too much to worry about.

Euro 2036 Qualifying Group:

View attachment 343320

A very strong start in the qualifying group for the 2036 European Championships in Germany. We have already beaten our two main competitors for the 2nd place finish in the group, and I think we will be on the plane to Germany in a year and a half's time barring a big turn around.

Transfers:

View attachment 343137

No big incomings or sales, however we did agree to bring in a Spanish international centre back on a free from Bilbao on the 30th of June, which will allow me to move on the 28 year old Diego Faccini in the summer.

View attachment 343136

Finnish League Cup:

View attachment 343135

We put our name on the League Cup for yet another year with a depleted squad of just 11 first team players managing to beat RoPS in the final.

Champions League 1st Knockout Round - FC Inter Turku 7 - 2 Torino

View attachment 343133View attachment 343132

2 comfortable victories over the Turin side, firstly a 4-1 win at the Olympico followed by a 3-1 win at the Olympiastadion sees us advance in our attempt to become the first team ever to win 3 Champions Leagues in a row. We'll play Manchester City in the quarter finals, with the first leg to be played in England.

Other News:

1)
I decided to recall full back Joaquim Niemi from his loan spell at Ajax, as he had picked up 2 caps in international friendlies for Argentina. However, because they were only friendlies we still have a chance of calling him up when he eventually accepts our call. He's 22 at the moment but turns 23 in July, and that is when I think he may accept our call up. Until then, he'll be rotting away in our 'B' team to hopefully stay under the radar for the Argentinian national team.

View attachment 343129

2)
RoPS have completed their move to a new 8,700 all seater stadium, innovatively called RoPS stadium! Also, HJK have announced plans for their own new stadium, an all seater 16,962 capacity HJK stadium will be completed in January next year, the same as our stadium. It'll be interesting to see if any other teams build new stadiums in the coming years and if RoPS or HJK expand their new stadiums.

Quarter Final - FC Inter Turku 6 - 2 Manchester City

View attachment 343007View attachment 343006

A hard fought 0-0 draw at the City of Manchester stadium in the first leg was followed by a devastating performance at home in the second leg, beating the English side 6-2 with a hatrick from Linssen sending us through to the semis to play another English side in the shape of Arsenal.

Semi Final - FC Inter Turku 5 - 2 Arsenal

View attachment 343005View attachment 343004

We continued where we left off from the second leg of the tie against Manchester City, putting Arsenal to the sword at the Olympiastadion as goals from either centre midfielder Jae-Yoon and Garay, along with an own goal gave us a 3-0 win in the first leg. The away leg was a far tighter affair, finishing in a 2-2 draw and sending us through to a 3rd straight Champions League final 5-2 on aggregate.

Next update will be an April and May review, including our Champions League Final against Borussia Dortmund. Can we become the first ever team to win 3 Champions Leagues in a row...

FC Inter Turku, the small club from Finland become the first ever team to win 3 Champions League titles in a row, securing a 3-1 victory over the Germans at the Bernabeu! The win puts me up to 4th in the hall of fame and is the 5th time we've won the trophy. We still have a few more to catch up to Real Madrid, who have won the competition a record 10 times.

View attachment 342935

A victory in the hardest game in our group has now all but secured our place at the Euros. It was an early 2nd minute goal by winger Scheweleff that gave us the victory, another reminder that we need to find a replacement for him as he does not have many years as a top international player left.

Liechtenstein 1 - 3 Finland

View attachment 342934

We followed the hard fought victory over Italy with a comfortable victory over minnows Liechtenstein in a game where we never really needed to get out of first gear.

League Table:

View attachment 342930

We've had a very dominant season so far this year, scoring 94 goals in just 20 games and winning all in the process!

Transfers:

View attachment 342928

We brought in a very nice £77,470,000 in transfer fees over the past couple of months, and spending nothing in the process, just promoting a couple of youth players to plug gaps in the squad. The two most difficult sales to make were Finnish players Timoska and Johansson. On one hand I wanted to keep them, however they both only had a slight amount of improving to do and I felt they would be better off playing week in week out elsewhere for the sake of the national team, as they would have been 3rd choice in their respective positions. The other two big sales were backup players Faccini and Obradovic, for a combined £33,000,000. The final sales were players we brought in on the cheap and then sold on for a profit.

View attachment 342924View attachment 342923View attachment 342922View attachment 342921

Other News:

1)
Some very good news is the fact that we made it up to number one in the club coefficients for a first time. Even better than that, the Finnish League rose to 6th in the competition rankings and the coefficient rankings, meaning it is now a 3 and a half star competition and we now get two CL group spots and one EL group spot automatically, as well as qualifying spots.

View attachment 342919View attachment 342920View attachment 342918

2)
Dual nationality full back Joaquim Niemi is still rejecting our call up, despite turning 23. I'll keep trying to freeze his career until he accepts our call up though, a tip learned from Kandersson during his many great San Marino stories.

Next update will be a European qualification update...

Looking really good Scotty! 5 Champions Leagues for a Finnish team is a great acheivement. Fantastic dedication to this save, wish I could have a long term save like this myself. Keep it up pal!

FC Inter Turku and RoPS in Champions League:

View attachment 342551View attachment 342550

We are the stand out team in our group and should qualify comfortably. Despite an awful performance in the group stage last year, RoPS have jumped up to third seeds in their group however they will still have a big job on their hands to stay in Europe after Christmas.

FC Lahti, Ilves and Honka in Europa League:

View attachment 342542View attachment 342541View attachment 342540

FC Lahti and Honka are both regulars in the group stages of the Europa League now, however this is Ilves' first ever appearance at this stage of the competition. The team I would say has the biggest chance of qualifying would be FC Lahti, who'll likely be fighting it out to finish second behind Dortmund, with Genk and Young Boys.

FC Inter Turku 2 - 2 Tottenham (Inter Turku win 4-3 on penalties)

View attachment 342532

I really don't know how we won this game! When the Europa League holders Tottenham went 2 nil up in the 72nd minute it looked as though we may be dead and buried. However two goals in the 84th minute and the 88th minute sent the game into extra time and then penalties. We fell behind early in the penalty shootout but Spurs missed their 5th penalty, which would have won them the trophy, and we scored to take it to sudden death. Spurs missed their 6th penalty and centre back Raul scored for us to take home our 5th European Super Cup in a match I twice though we had lost...

A tightly contested game ended in another victory for Finland, with a late 81st minute Markus Scheweleff goal securing the victory for us. This result secured our qualification for Euro 2036!

Hungary 0 - 8 Finland

View attachment 342446

We celebrated qualification with our best performance in the qualifying campaign yet, smashing Hungary 8-0 in their own back yard! Hatricks from Tuomaala and Lehtonen as well as one each from Timoska and Scheweleff secured our victory.

Finland 4 - 3 Italy

View attachment 342444

We end our qualifying campaign with a great comeback win over Italy, and so have a 100% record in qualifying. Judging by the games stats, we more than deserved the result.

FC Haka have managed to jump above Lahti into 3rd place and so will benefit from the extra Champions League place. As it stands they will enter the Champions League in the 3rd qualifying round and FC Lahti will go straight into the Europa League. However, if we win the Champions League again, Haka will go straight into the group stages and FC Lahti will take the qualifying place.

Other News:

1)
Originally I thought we had a poor intake but a couple of players have jumped from 2 star to 2 and a half star potential since joining and could be future internationals. The Argentine has dual Finnish nationality.

View attachment 342435View attachment 342434

2)
I forgot to mention in earlier updates, we managed to get another feeder club in South Korean side Suwon Blue Wings. They are the most reputable club in Korea and so it may see us find the next Byun Jae-Yoon there in the future!

We win all 6 games as expected to cruise into the 1st knockout round where we will play Atalanta. However, the main news here is that RoPS qualified in 2nd place from their group ahead of Furth and PSG! They will meet Man United in the 1st knockout round and will lose, but it is nice to see them progress as it is the first time any other Finnish club has made it to the 1st knockout round.

FC Lahti, Ilves and Honka in Europa League:

View attachment 342419View attachment 342418View attachment 342417

Lahti flew out of the blocks and took 6 points in their first 2 games, however only managed 1 from the next four. Luckily, Dortmund were dominant in their group and this allowed Lahti to sneak through in 2nd place where they will play Bologna. Honka will be disappointed to only pick up 4 points whilst Ilves only picked up 3 but it was only their first appearance in the competition.

Club World Championship:

View attachment 342416

We are the club champions of the world for a third year running! Brazilian's Mineiro put up a good fight but goals from Lehtonen and Fabiano were enough to secure victory for us and to send us home from Qatar with the trophy.

Euro 2036 Qualifying Group + Group Stage Draw:

View attachment 342390View attachment 342389

8 wins from 8 games sends us to the Euro's easily! Our group at the competition has a very Scandinavian feel to it as we are joined in our group by Sweden and Denmark, as well as the Republic of Ireland. We should make it through the group and then it is down to the luck of the draw past that stage.

We spend £5,000,000 on a very promising Scottish midfielder from Celtic who will be the long term replacement for Garay. Also, we sell a young striker/winger to FC Lahti as he didn't have much room left for improvement as a player, but he should improve them. We also loaned out a few young Finnish players to keep them in top match fitness for the Euros.

View attachment 342064View attachment 342063

We have also agreed deals that will take place in the future. We have agreed a deal to sell star striker Linssen to Barcelona for £30,000,000 as he is 28 year old and I wanted to cash in on him whilst I could. The money we received was all profit as we got him on a free a few years back. We replaced him with an amazing looking young Welsh striker who has the potential to be even better than Linssen, although will originally start as backup to Lenagen.

FC Inter Turku 5 - 2 Chelsea FC

View attachment 342032View attachment 342031

The damage was done in the first leg here as we smashed Chelsea 5-1 at the Olympiastadion (Not sure why they haven't now switched our knockout games to the Houghton Arena) with 5 different goalscorers grabbing the goals. I was disappointed to lose 1-0 at the Terry stadium in the second leg but it didn't really matter.

FC Inter Turku 3 - 1 Cagliari

View attachment 342024View attachment 342023

After a drab 0-0 draw away in Italy in the first leg, we needed to turn out a big performance in the second leg and that is what we did. After Cagliari made it 1-1 in the second half we looked to be heading out on away goals, but two late goals from Barcelona bound Linssen off the bench saw us win 3-1 and set up a final vs Arsenal at Wembley. The bad news is first choice right back Sanogo got sent off for a second yellow and first choice box to box midfielder Garay reached the yellow card limit and so both are suspended for the final. Combine that with an injury which may keep 1st choice right winger Iwanowski out, and the fact the final is in Arsenal's home town and I feel they have to be considered favourites.

****, out first loss in a Champions League final in our 6th final appearance. I knew we were the underdogs going in and despite the match stats looking slightly in their favour, I think they probably deserved their win due to carving out the better chances. Annoying not to win but if we were going to lose the trophy I'd rather do it in the final than an earlier round!

Group Stage:

View attachment 341780View attachment 341779View attachment 341778

We opened our group stage with a 2-1 victory over Scandinavian rivals Denmark, with a brace from star striker Strandvall giving us a healthy 2-0 lead before a late Denmark consolation goal set up a nervy last few minutes but we held on for the victory. Following this, we comfortably beat Ireland 3-0 at the Red Bull Arena with a slightly rotated team. Young striker Kekkonen got his first international goal to give us the lead before goals from Lehtonen and Kunnola secured the victory. Finally, we kept up a 100% group stage record by beating another Scandinavian side in Sweden 4-2 in the last group game, with Nigerian born defender Opara bagging 2 goals.

2nd Round - Finland 3 - 2 Croatia (AET)

View attachment 341759

I thought this game may have been a little easier than it was as Croatia only took 3 points from their group, however they pushed us all the way here. Twice during the game we fell behind, however goals from Strandvall and Lehtonen pulled us even twice before the game headed into extra time. Luckily, Tuomaala scored early in extra time to give us a victory and send us into the quarters against my home nation, England.

Quarter Final - Finland 2 - 3 England

View attachment 341755

Just as it happened 2 years ago in the World Cup, we exit the competition at the quarter final stage. The game was pretty even and on another day we could have been the team to advance into the semis, however it wasn't to be! England went on to beat Serbia in the semis before losing 2-0 to eventual winners Spain in the final.

Going Forward/Other News:

1)
After the tournament, first choice wingers Scheweleff and Tuomaala had decided to retire but luckily we have got them to change their mind. Tuomaala is only 29 so probably still has 2 more tournaments in him, however Scheweleff is 32 so will probably be nothing more than a backup in 2 years time at the World Cup (If we get there).

View attachment 341750

2)
Attacking midfielder Lehtonen won the best player at the tournament.

View attachment 341749

3)
Whilst we were playing the Euro's, our under 21's reached their first ever international tournament, playing in the under 21 Euros. They lost all 3 group games due to our better under 21 players being at the main tournament, but it is nice to see the progression the nation is making as a whole as we start to make these youth tournaments.

View attachment 341748

4) After the tournament, we have risen to become the number 1 ranked team in the World. To be fair, the World Rankings are a joke but I'll take it!
