European Super Cup + European Group Stage Draws - 2033

FC Inter Turku 2 - 1 Liverpool:

View attachment 346468

A brace from Dutch striker Linssen in his homeland was enough to bring home the European Super Cup for a 3rd time.

Champions League Group C and RoPS in CL:

View attachment 346464View attachment 346463

We both qualify automatically for the tournament, us as last years winners and RoPS therefore get the automatic league spot. We could have been joined by FC Lahti, however they lost their Champions League playoff qualifier against PSV on away goals after a 5-5 aggregate draw.

4 Finnish Clubs in Europa League:

View attachment 346462View attachment 346461View attachment 346460View attachment 346459

6 Finnish clubs making it into the group stages of European football just goes to show how far we have come as a footballing nation. HJK, Honka and IFK Mariehamn all won qualifiers to join Champions League drop outs FC Lahti in the Europa League group stages. It will be interesting to see if any can make it through their group and into the knockout rounds. What do you think?

Next update will be of the key World Cup qualifiers against Israel and Poland, can we hold onto our top spot in the qualifying group?

World Cup Qualifying - September 2033

Finland 6 - 0 Israel

View attachment 346448

A dominating performance at home over Israel was a great start to the international period! 2 goals from left back Vera, along with goals from Grohn, Ericson, Scheweleff and Tuomaala gave us the victory ahead of a key clash away to Poland.

Poland 4 - 3 Finland

View attachment 346447

I can't believe we lost this game! 2-0 up early in the first half before Poland fought back to make it 2-2. However, we responded and went ahead yet again only for Poland to score twice more to win the game and put our chances of a top two finish in major doubt...

View attachment 346446

As you can see we are still ahead of Poland, but only by one point. I'd expect us, Spain and Poland to all win our next game which would leave us needing to beat Spain on the last match day, which would actually see us win the group. Anything other than a win would likely see us drop down to 3rd and miss out completely. There is a slight chance Israel could get something off Poland on the second last match day, but the Polish are definitely big favourites.

Next update will cover the all important last 2 group games...

HJK and Lahti could make it through in 1st place in their groups but IFK are going to get absolutely demolished... Honka could sneak 2nd in theirs

HJK and Lahti could make it through in 1st place in their groups but IFK are going to get absolutely demolished... Honka could sneak 2nd in theirs

I'd be happy enough with 3 teams making it through to the knockout rounds (Including ourselves). Think RoPS can finish at least 3rd in their CL group then hopefully at least one team in the Europa League can make it through their group.

Finland
World Cup Qualifiers - October 2033

View attachment 346318

Finland 5 - 0 Lithuania

View attachment 346316

This result was never really in question. The big news was the fact that Poland and Spain both won their ties, meaning we would go into the final game 2 points behind Spain and 1 point ahead of Poland, who would almost certainly beat Lithuania away from home. This meant that we would either beat Spain and win the group, with a draw or loss sending us home in 3rd place.

Finland 3 -1 Spain

View attachment 346315

We're going to South Korea for the World Cup! In my first qualification campaign as manager we qualify for our first ever World Cup by beating the 2018 and 2022 winners Spain 3-1 in front of a packed Olympiastadion! I wasn't too confident heading into the game without both of our first choice centre midfielders, and when we went behind to a 13th minute penalty and our first choice right back got injured in the 19th minute, I was fearing the worst. Attacking midfielder Lehtonen pulled one back before half time, before second half goals from Strandvall and Thiaguinho booked our places on a flight to Korea in 8 months time!

Next update will cover the last few months of the season with the club...

Fixtures:

View attachment 346309

As strong as ever domestically, winning every game over the 3 month period, ensuring another Finnish Cup is in the bag with a 4-2 win over RoPS. The highlight of this run was a 9-0 victory over RoPS in the league, considering they are probably the best team in the league after us.

Player Stats:

View attachment 346308

Linssen tops the goals chart with 47 in 31 starts. Kalle Lehtonen had a fantastic season, with 34 goals and 30 assists in 32 starts. Hopefully he can carry that sort of form into the World Cup next year!

League Table:

View attachment 346307

The top 3 remains the same as last year and it is now the 4th time in 5 years the league has had the same 1 to 3. Honka were probably the most disappointing of the sides this year, whilst MYPA were the surprise package, finishing in 5th and taking one of the Europa League spots.

Other News:

1)
We're still waiting to hear any details about our new stadium, however with little over a year until it's supposed to be completed, I fear we're going to get blocked by planning permission again.

Next update will be a European update, with the added bonus of the Club World Championship thrown in there too!

Wow 32 wins from 33, that's amazing! Are you just gonna keep going and win as much as you can?

Wow 32 wins from 33, that's amazing! Are you just gonna keep going and win as much as you can?

Pretty much! You'd think it would be getting boring by now but there are so many little things that keep me playing the save. For example, finally getting the national job, playing the European competitions, waiting for a new stadium, watching the other Finnish clubs slowly improve etc.

RoPS in Champions League:

RoPS did ok in their group, taking 5 points from their 6 games and finishing in 3rd place, ensuring their place in the Europa League after Christmas! They will play Montpellier in the 1st knockout round.

Finnish Teams in Europa League:

View attachment 346009View attachment 346008View attachment 346007View attachment 346006

HJK were the only one of the 4 teams to qualify, taking 2nd place in a very competitive group. FC Lahti and Honka both narrowly missed out, finishing 3rd in their respective groups. Finally, IFK Mariehamn finished bottom of their group, however they did get a pretty tough group. HJK have Sochux in the 1st knockout round...

Club World Championship:

View attachment 346002

Atletico Minerio put up a solid fight in the final, pushing us all the way to extra time but our extra quality showed and we won the competition for a 3rd time!

Other News:

1)
The draw for the World Cup has been made, and we have got a fairly reasonable group against Uruguay, Nigeria and Jamaica. Uruguay are the current world champions, but I fancy us to have a good chance of taking 2nd place (which I'd imagine would be between us and Nigeria).

View attachment 346001

2)
The best news of the update is that the board has announced that they have received planning permission for a new stadium and Houghton Park will be completed in a little over 2 years, in January 2036. It will hold 21,551 people so hopefully we can push it to at least 30,000 with expansions.

View attachment 346000

3) Here is a quick update on our merchandise sales. It's crazy to think we made £9,350,000 in merchandise sales when you compare it to how much the club was worth when we first took over!

Transfers:

The main sale was that of backup keeper Tosic for £11,000,000, and we replaced him with a Soanish goalkeeper from Barcelona for just £1,400,000 after we decided to pay money to bring his bosman transfer forward. The other transfer in was of young Brazilian midfielder Anderson Luiz for £6,000,000 from Sao Paolo, who'll hopefully be the long term replacement for Jae-Yoon.

Finnish League Cup:

Another league cup win, crushing HJK 5-0 in the final.

Champions League 1st Knockout Round - FC Inter Turku 4 - 1 Celtic

View attachment 345505View attachment 345504

We cruised past Celtic with relative ease, following up a 2-1 victory away from home with a 2-0 victory at the Olympiastadion. The best thing about this result was that we never even got into full gear during either tie, so we can only improve from here.

Champions League Quarter Final - FC Inter Turku 5 - 2 Genoa

View attachment 345503View attachment 345502

Our reward for beating Celtic was another pretty nice draw against Italian side Genoa. A 3-1 win at home was followed by a 2-1 win in Italy to send us through to the semi's, where we have a big tie against Spanish giants Barcelona.

Next update will be of the Champions League semi final against Barcelona...

FC Inter Turku 6 - 1 Barcelona

View attachment 345496View attachment 345495

It looks as though we are just coming into form at around the right time as we eased past Barcelona in the semi's to reach the final for a second year running, looking to become only the 2nd ever team to retain the Champions League trophy! After a 3-1 win at the Nou Camp, I was able to rest a couple of players in the second leg who were one booking away from missing the final. The resting of players had no impact on our performance though, as we dominated the game in front of a sold out Olympiastadion, winning 3-0 on the night and 6-1 on aggregate. This has set up a final at the Stadio Olimpico against Manchester United, who are actually floundering down in 8th in the Premier League at the minute.

Next update will be the Champions League final against Manchester United, can we retain the trophy we won at Old Trafford last season against the Red Devils?

Manchester United did take the lead in the final after 16 minutes but, luckily for us, that's as good as it got for them. Martin Garay equalized just a minute later, before goals from Linssen and Korean midfielder Jae-Yoon secured our 2nd Champions League is as many years. This means that we become only the second ever team to win back to back Champions Leagues after Barcelona won it in 2023 and 2024. The win also seen me rise to 6th in the Worldwide hall of fame!

2nd in the league, but only due to the amount of games played. We are going to have some fixture pile up in the second half of the season after the World Cup!

Other News:

1)
I have selected my final 23 man squad for the World Cup. All but 6 of the players picked are players to come through the Inter Turku academy.

2) 23 players from Inter Turku have been called up for the World Cup.

View attachment 345447

3) I'll put this here since I forgot to put it into an earlier update. RoPS had a great run in the Europa League post Christmas, managing the reach the Quarter Finals where they were knocked out by Hannover. Also, they are also building a new stadium which will be completed in January next year, with a capacity of 8,700 which is an improvement on the current stadium which only holds 5,000.

Warm Up Games:

2 wins and a draw heading into the competition, but more importantly we helped some players get into match fitness who needed it.

Group Stage - Finland 3 - 1 Nigeria

View attachment 345413

A couple of early goals from winger Tuomaala gave us control over the game, and then a late own goal sealed victory for us after the Nigerians pulled one back.

Group Stage - Finland 4 - 0 Jamaica

View attachment 345410

A comfortable victory over the Jamaicans was enough to secure our place in the knockout round with a game to spare, a great achievement in our first appearance at the competition.

Group Stage - Finland 2 - 1 Uruguay

View attachment 345409

We needed at least a point to avoid Italy in the next round and to finish in top spot. Luckily, we managed to beat the reigning World Champions so we face Tunisia in the next round.

2nd Round - Finland 3 - 1 Tunisia

View attachment 345407

Into the quarter finals we go! By the 60th minute we had rushed into a comprehensive 3-0 lead against the Africans, and despite losing a goal when we took off our 3 star men to save them for the quarter final, we cruised through.

Quarter Final - Finland 1 - 3 Argentina

View attachment 345406

The Quarter Final was the end of the road for us as we bowed out to the Argentinians. Despite a valiant effort, too many factors were conspiring against us here such as injuries, fitness and squad depth. Still, achieving the quarters is still a great achievement, especially in our first ever World Cup.

Rest of Tournament:

View attachment 345405

So we lost to the eventual winners, making our exit a little easier to digest. We had 2 players make it onto the bench of the team of the tournament, whilst I managed to talk 3 players out of international retirement after the tournament (Scheweleff, Strandvall and Byskata). Wasn't too bothered about Byskata but Scheweleff will only be 32 by the time the Euros come around and Strandvall will only be 31. We have no natural replacement for Scheweleff at the moment and Strandvall is too good to let retire.

I needed to manage the squad carefully after the World Cup and decided to give more playing time to a couple of Finnish youngsters. We have done very well on the whole, although we have drew a couple of games with rotated squads.

Player Stats:

View attachment 345016

Young Finnish striker Timoska has started well after coming back from loan, with 9 goals in 8 starts. Centre back Jaaskela is another good young Finnish player we have brought through, with the intention of having him ready to make the squad for the Euro's in 2 years.

2)
We sell Spanish keeper Jimenez just months after bringing him in, for an £18,000,000 profit. We also sell back up right back Cruz for £18,250,000 and Nigerian striker Ozokwo for £23,500,000 to allow room in the squad for Finnish youngsters. The only player in was a 29 year old Bosnian keeper to be a backup on a free.

Slovakia 1 - 2 Finland

View attachment 344336

The second game was a bit more tricky as we let Slovakia take a 3rd minute lead which they took into the second half. Luckily in the 2nd half, we mounted a great comeback as winger Vili Johansson, currently away from Inter Turku on loan at Heerenveen, equalized whilst deputising for Tuomaala on the right. This was followed up by a winner from star striker Strandvall with just 7 minutes to go, putting us in a good position in the group early on.
