Just played 09 for the first time since I got the game. Played in 2d (whereas before i was playing in 3d with no problems) and its extremly jumpy, so much so that its impossible to tell whats going on really, anyone else having this trouble?

As a veteran of FM and CM, Ive gotta say Im pretty impressed with the newest one; although Id like to see a few things added/tinkered with, I'm enjoying it nontheless.

Byebye FM 2008! :D

Hey all. I'm new to these forums but a looong standing FM/CM fan. I've bought every one since they first began making them. Seems forever ago when I was playing CM 90 with Ronnie Whelan and Big Jan and the boys. What a simpler game that was huh?

The series has become extremley good, obviously. But I feel a little let down by the newest installment. Yes, it's great....but for someone that has spent £30+ a year since 1990, I dont actually think it's THAT good. For a football management game, it is top notch. The best. Unquestionable. But I can't help but feel we are now being conned. Drip fed, so to speak.

The makers must have the ideal game already set out in some form. But what it feels like they are doing is simply adding a touch more each year just to make more and more money. FM 09 for me is merely a very good patch and update for FM 08.

FM 09 has a some improvements, but really, is there anything to sing and dance about? The 3D engine is clunky and encumbersome (yes, its early and hopefully will get better).

The press conference is repetitive, bland and very often non-sensical with bizzarre questions and answers that leave me feeling like im trying to figure out a cryptic cross-word puzzle. I also feel slightly annoyed that we can't as managers call a press conference when things are going badly, or when we wish to bolster morale or somthing. Press conferences come only when the press want, which kinda defeats the entire purpose of it.

I often feel at a loss as for what to do. I can be losing a match and can find that many of the options a manager would generally take in such times are simply not available.

When I began the post I had a ton of points to bring up. They mostly come to me in game and I cant really think of them all now.

There are lots of simple things that are missing. Telling your team to simply retain possesion and see out the game. Telling your wingers to cut inside rather than to cross. Man markings not too bad, but why can't I tell Mascherano to stop Ronaldo playing at all costs?

And has anyone noticed that another of the new features, the assistants In-Match Feedback is very very repetitive and always says that there is too big a gap between the defence and mid and the attack and mid? I pay little attention to this feature now. I dont find it relevant to the game at all.

To summarise, I had the chance if i'd wanted, to download FM 09 for free. But im a long time player and am loyal to the game and feel I owed it to buy it. Really, if the next installment is only a touch better, with the makers seeming to spend far more time on aethstetics rather than gameplay, I will not be buying it. A great game yes, but c'mon..these guys are proffesional game makers with lots of money going into research (I would assume)

Why does it feel that FM 09 is nothing more than a slight shift forwards (and in some cases, backwards) than FM 08?

To embellish on a point..here's the situation

I'm Liverpool. The seasons going well. Beaten Man U at Anfield, drawn at Stamford Bridge and the only dark point was a defeat at the JJB to Wigan. Next I play Portsmouth at Anfield. For some reason Pompey utterly dominated the game. They had 67% of possession and nothing I could do would change that. They had 11 shots on goal to my 5 and most of my players were getting around 6 to 6.5 ratings. Still, the game was won 2-1. I asked Sammy Lee to take care of the team talk..he said 'dissapointing' and I went with that. However, Mascherano didn't like that. He now wants a transfer because he dosent like the way I talk to people on match day. Bit harsh aint it?

So, rather than a 3D match engine, i'd have prefered these basic matters to be fixed (after all, I seem to remember a similar problem in FM 08). Instead of a generalised "You were all dissapointing" to which my players become ****** off...how about a little embelishment on it. Being able to say what ya mean

"Look, we're playing at Anfield. We're 3rd in the league. You let Pompey dominate you and barely scraped a win. Ok, we got the 3 points, but if we play like that we wont be staying 3rd for long"

I understand that this can't really be done. But how about a little bit more detail rather than:

*walks into the dressing room* "Dissapointing" *walks back out*

I just feel that they could have focused on other parts, cleaned up parts that were rather shoddy from FM 08 and made things better that way, rather than focus on a 3D engine that dosen't really add much to the game.

the game has improved a lot in my opinion, its so much more realistic to the footballing world (in many ways) for example, if a club is interested in one of your players and they sign a new contract with your club the club is (most of the time) no longer interested.:)

I'm enjoying the game - however dont like Steam and for some reason the game freezes frequently - I am not sure but this seems to happen when an add for a new game on steam appears??

Yeah those are really annoying, you can disable them though by going onto the steam settings and onto the interface tab and unticking "notify me about additions or changes to my games, new releases, and upcoming games".

Cheers Lee - done that hopefully a little less of the game freeze??

Not sure, I've had them turned off for a while now because it used to crash one of my other Steam games.

Ive had this game since it first came out and when i got it, it never worked but i knew FM would sort it and they did. FM never dissapoints, what a great game.

Well, at every game game you want more, but at 09 they made some big mistakes
They concentrate on 3D Engine, and it suck's!! Looks like Fifa 98
That injury thing, a little bit exagerated... Transfers, really no improves.
The conference..i attend only once, and after i send the asst, if they tought that with press conf. they'll make the big hit they are stupid
In FM 10 I hope too see more improvments at personal part.. I mean to invest your money, have a family... something like Fifa Manager, but no to rip them

I agree with most of that. It's just the 'have a family' part. I don't think things like that should ever be in FM as the game is a Football Management game and things like that don't belong.

Maybe it should not be in FM seris the family part, but when you see your career earning.. :D I have about 9.2 mil. earned

Yeah i agree something could be added for you to use your career earnings on. But what exactly i have no idea.

After finally getting a season done my game crashed on 24th of Jul, its a known bug if you are running Serie C. So im noycottign the game agen til lthe patch
