haha Welllll in that case, it just seems mean to be teasing us like this. Are you planning on a release?

No. Its specifically built to the team and squad i have, was just an advice thread, from the initial idea i had to build from.

Not sure how you find the WBs on attack duty or as a CWB. They're great offensively as there's no designated wingers up top, but I still leak goals and I'm not sure why just yet! I'm still using that 4-3-3-0 formation with 3 AMC's...I've dropped them into the FB position as you suggested and they're still the same offensively. Yes they come deeper when defending but I'm not sure, I may try putting them as FB's with attack duty.

What's the key to your defending out wide? The opposition always manages to get crosses in my box, but I just have good CBs to head them away at the minute, eventually I want to apply this tactic to a lower league team so I can't help but feel I'll get destroyed with another team

Quick update on using FB's in Attack duty.

Obviously they sit deeper on the pitch, so I've had to move to a "Much Lower Tempo" in order to play slow enough to let them bomb forward in the build up phase, and as I've lowered the tempo I've unticked "Retain Possession" as they just held onto the ball for no reason a lot of the time. The results on the pitch have been fantastic to be honest, quick passing while being slow enough to let the FBs bomb forward as well, actually reminds me of the Barca of old even though that's not what my intentions were :P

Nice one, great feeling when it all pulls together on the pitch.. :)

It's also a feeling of...."Ah I finally understand the ME" haha, you'd think a lower tempo + retain possession the players would just move the ball around more cautiously and slower, but instead they seem to hold onto the ball for no reason for ages and get robbed of the ball because they've just stood there aimlessly.

Yup. Understanding the ME and also understanding the GE goes a long way to enjoying the game itself. There is a lot of flaws but I don't think they're anything to do with the ME wherein it's as good as it's going to get for the time being (and I've been playing since 1997, facepalm). However I recently sat down and stopped fighting the engine and took my time in my current save with HSV.

Best thing I've done in this version of the game. First time I've downloaded tactics since 2005 as they removed sliders and I felt lost. In the older versions you didn't see the games but now you're able to it's actually almost plausible TO have genuinely good football, to execute and achieve goals you set out (i.e. if you want your AMC to assist mostly, or ST to score mostly) instead of the bs exploitation type results I was getting where Mertersacker one season had like 35 goals.

My tactic is semi-Arsenal, semi-Liverpool (inadvertently, I don't watch their games but noticed last week that I loved what Rodgers has done with the roles/tactics, will explain further) and the root? The crux? The true origins of all that is Arsene/Rodgers? Brazil 1970.

THAT team.

I don't want to post my version because I'm not good at marketing and will get highly bitter if someone steals/claims my idea or disproves it when I've had so much success (which is also related to my knowing the game engine with such important tasks as giving players rest manually, knowing team talks and also balanced/thoughtful training methods depending on opponent... all these are important... not to mention using the right players which 9/10 isn't the case for most FMers unfortunately). I've always said people choose their favourite haircuts or "wunderkids" over "the right players". Agendas, agendas, agendas...

Disclaimer: nothing here is tactically helpful, just a long tl;dr rant :$

actually, the reason he held the ball was lack of obvious pasess....when you instructed your team not to retain possession, you actually told them to make more risky passess...while that may be cool in unlocking stuborn defences, in most games it is not adviseable...you should play narrower so that the fb is closer to his teammates and gives him an option to pass the ball to, and perhaps use a playmaker role in central midfield as another option...in front of the attacking fullback should be either an inside forward support or adv playmaker support, depending on the type of player you have...if he is fast with good dribbling skills, you want inside forward, whilst for real tiki taka, you should have a player that looks for pass rather than dribble (adv plamaker)...that said, smart wingers are very hard to find in game...

I dont play inside fowards, germaine might in his, i play a 2512 with treq and 2 f9s'. Got it playing the way i wanted about 2 pages ago, thanks to the back and forth and general playing. :)

Made a 4231, 4321 and a 451 based on the same play style, the 451 plays inside forwards, passing and goal stats are usually 65%+ and 3.. the inside forward were intially playing to wide and getting close too or past the forward, but i got it working enough to be effective without losing the ball in the final third at least. Control Defensive possesion, and then getting direct running passes from the treq to the F9's or inside forwards, coming between the lines, think the best i've seen scored so far is a 28 pass move.

How much success have y'all had playing with a regista? Right now, I have a DM who is naturally going to dictate tempo and be the primary distributor (plays as a DLP), but I've just wondered if it might be more effective with a regista? I'd have to work on him to use him that way since he's naturally a DLP. I'm currently training him to work on switching possession, which will be good (4-2-3-1 with attack-minded fullbacks and wingers tucking inside), but I just wanted to know if the substantial time investment to get him to play as a regista is worth it or not. Worse comes to worse, there's a guy sitting out there who I could buy to play the role, but he'd cost $1K/wk more than anyone on my team currently makes, so I'd rather not do that. If y'all had any input onthis, that'd be great, thanks.

I play 2 in the formation i have flanking a HB, to great effect, quick interchanges inside and out, with great pass selection past the hussleing midfield when they come in.. I find a DLP support or Reg invariabaly have the same average position and influnce in the game.. but where as my reg will pass forward into midfield the DLP will dribble it out,

I'm using a 4-3-3 with my front 3 all in the AMC position, T EG T, working lovely in terms of free flowing attacking football. My FBs provide the width, the CBs and midfield 3 play slowly building up and allow my formation to end up more like a 2-1-2-5 or 3-2-5 in possession really. I'm not sure how you've developed your opinion on retain possession so I may be wrong, but I've not seen any of players make any risky passes with retain possession unticked yet.

If you have playmaker roles, they do risky passes by default. With retain possession option, you ask your players to make no risky passess. Fullbacks are somewhere in the middle by default, you can ask them to do more or less risky passes.

For your formation, I would advise your two outside AMC be allowed to run wide with ball with some dribbling allowed aswell, and perhaps roaming too, whilst your fullbacks should hold position instead of overlap...Those two AMC' will be inferiores...Manuel Pellegerini loves those...

Totally agree with this, having a decent balance between passing and running is crucial to the attacking element.

Got all bar the DLP-Def breaking or at least stepping forward with the ball. the 3-2-16-4 make a flat four for most of the game, with the 2 wide and no8 breaking forward, No 8 is key with 145 passes into the front 3 and running from deep. Just need to teach him the "plays killer balls" PPM and he should be setting key passes as well, they are mainly from the drop off CF (3) at the min

Best result I've had so far in terms of passes/possession, 77% possession. It's been like this for 2-3 games now, but they were 0-0, 0-0, 2-2 and 1-0 so I'm definitely not getting enough key passes or scoring chances. It's pretty much a standard 4-3-3 formation, with playmakers on the wings.

Any ideas? The 2 CM's have just pass it shorter, I'm afraid if I put direct passing on or anything like that it'll disrupt the passing and control I've got going on. Oh to be Guardiola :P It's pretty much an exact replica of the Bayern vs Madrid game, I had 74% possession, 25 shots, yet only 1 key pass, 1 CCC and 5 half chances.

Do the CM's have 'killer passes PPMs" and the winger decent off the ball stats etc? i have the wide men on direct and inside running so the pass is there to be made when the CMs have it. look at the PPMs of the players if you dont wanna stich to direct i think i usually have a DLP(D) DLP (s) and AP (A) combo in the middle 3 with the AP on direct

Edit: Scrapped the 3-4-3, always go back to the old faithful 4-3-3 basic shape.

Actually took some ideas from igneos' Tika Taka tactic you posted, my team just knock the ball round endlessly until a space opens up on the edge of the box....

....But going back to the title of this thread, the passing is pretty spread out! with all of my attackers getting good stats.

So in general my stats are as follows: FBs: 90, CBs: 50, DM: 100, CMs: 120, AMR/L: 100, AMC: 50

Ignore the attachments, a scrapped 3-4-3 experiment!
