2-2 draw at home leaves Arsenal needing win in Kyiv

Arsenal manager Hope Powell has defended her decision to rest key players after her Arsenal side came from 2 goals down to salvage a draw against Dinamo Kyiv at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Out of the players who secured a dramatic 3-2 win against Chelsea last week only Laurent Koscielny played yesterday, and after a terrible first half performance the gunners recovered with debut goals from Park Chu-Young and Yossi Benayoun.

Arsenal now need a win or a high scoring draw in Kyiv to progress to the group stage of the champions league.

What is up with the defence? Conceding very soft goals. Maybe I need to go into the market and buy another defender, but that would cost me a lot. Mats Hummels is my number one target, but a quick phone call to Dortmund told me they couldn't afford to lose anymore players after we already took their best one.

Koscielny

Well I think the manager has faith in me after she played me in both games. I think I played pretty well in both of them.

Every night, though, the nightmare returns. The ball from the birmingham goalkeeper, I rush to make the clearance and kick it straight at Szczesny. Martins scores the winner. Arsenal go trophyless again. All because of me.

10 Man Sunderland hold firm to Beat Arsenal

Despite going down to 10 men a determined Sunderland side were able to defeat Arsenal 2-1 thanks to two superb goals from ex-gunner Sebastien Larrson.

Arsenal Vice-Captain Thomas Vermaelen got the Gunners off to a great start by scoring a header in the fourth minute. Things turned from bad to worse for Sunderland as talented midfielder Lee Cattermole was sent off on the 19th minute.

But Sebastien Larrson saved the day for his side, scoring from two free kicks.

Arsenal now lie in 9th place, and they need to get back on track in the Premier League if they want to challenge for honours this season.

Three main problems:

1) The Defence is much weaker than I thought. Need to get Squillaci out ASAP, and a strong defender to go into the middle, Vermaelen will play left back until Gibbs develops.

2) Mario Goetze needs to return, and then we'll play a lot better. I don't think Arteta and Ramsey are strong enough to be the sole central midfielder, and Wilshere's not back yet.

3) The Formation. 4-1-2-3 isn't working. Maybe I should switch to 4-2-4 and take advantage of our attacking players. Yes... that could work...

New Formation pays Dividends for Gunners

A new formation for Arsenal worked a treat as they qualified for the Champions League group stage with a 3-0 win at the expense of Dynamo Kyiv.

Iker Muniain scored in the 30th minute and this was quickly followed by a goal from Alex Song.

Man of the Match Yao Gervinho scored a real poacher's effort on the 75th minute.

We got really lucky in Kyiv, I thought we'd have a tougher game, but now we can forget about that. The nightmare group could await us, being Napoli, Lille and Dortmund. Who will we get?

"And joining Arsenal in Group E will be..."

I hope this isn't Napoli...

"AC MILAN"

****.

*5 minutes later*

So, in Group E, we have Ac Milan, but with the other teams Olympiakos and Genk, we stand a good chance of progressing, though maybe not as group winners.

Onto Sunday and the North London Derby!!

North London Derby

"The fans are counting on you today lads" boomed Hope Powell. "Remember how you played in Europe and carry that performance over to today, and win the most important game of the League Season!"

But something was wrong. The players responded with a Roar, but it felt weak and withdrawn...

Vermaelen

Tactically, she doesn't know what she's doing. I'm not saying this is because she's a woman... she hasn't exactly had much experience in the men's game, and they must be very different, surely?

Morgan De Sanctis looks terrified and I think he'll be dropped soon. This team still needs huge changes.

I'm not looking forward to this game...

Arsenal struggle to Draw

Arsenal again suffered a poor game as they came from two goals down to salvage a draw at home to rivals Tottenham.

Robin Van Persie proved to be the hero after a penalty and a tap in within five minutes of each other in the second half cancelled out early strikes by Gareth Bale and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Defensive issues were the problem for Arsenal again, they looked very soft in the middle of the park.

Manager Hope Powell is expected to call a press conference on the first of September reviewing this season's transfer dealings with some manager moves expected.

Look for a free transfer, might be a half-decent dc there.
