JULY 2011 UPDATE

Newcastle Unveil van Gaal

Newcastle have announced the appointment of Louis van Gaal as the club’s first ever manager. Chairman **** Torres announced the appointment at a news conference and told reporters that van Gaal was the only man he could see fulfilling the newly formed Tyneside club’s ambitions. Van Gaal’s first act was to pay £10.5 million for Leighton Baines. But even bigger news came through just 24 hours later when the club unveiled Brazilian wonderkid Leandro Damiao had signed for £23.5 million.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Everton’s manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted as he unveiled Argentine Walter Montillo as his first signing at the club at a cost of £14 million. Two days later the spending spree continued as Ever Benega signed from Valencia for £31 million. Everton’s owner Daniella Contra seems to be really backing the manager with a total of 8 signings in July, costing the club a cool £74 million.

Liverpool’s manager Josep Guardiola and chairman Joseba Munain have had a very quiet July with few signings, and were even photographed holidaying with each other in Dubai for 2 weeks. Carlos Kameni was the only notable player to join as a £2 million move. Liverpool must surely now have to knuckle down in the transfer market and expand their 13 man squad.

Maradona Mad?

Galacticos’ Diego Maradona has baffeled has stunned his clubs board by making Colo Colo’s 17 year old Chilian midfielder Bryan Rabello his first signing for £1.7 million. Alberto Gilardino, a blast from the past really, joined for £12.5 million. What is Maradona doing? But then maybe you can see you have to be mad to be a genius, as Maradona unveiled Alvaro Negredo has signed along with Martin Skrtel.

Over at C.F. Aztecas, manager Arsene Wenger splashed out £12.5 million on the Spanish club’s first ever transfer, Marouane Fellaini. Fellaini join Cassio, Andris Vanins, Cristian Maggio and Fabricio Coloccini at the Estadio Azteca. Chairman Kenrry Vanderrama has funded £31 million on transfers so far as is said to be eager to keep on spending.

Espanyol have splashed out £21 million on German international Kevin Kuranyi and £16 million on Borja Valero. Manager Jose Mourinho normally has a good eye for quality player who know how to play his way, and his signings so far seem to be aimed at just that.

Kagawa-bunga!!

A.S. La Cosa Nostra have struck a £26.5 million deal with Dortmund that sees Shinji Kagawa move to the Angelo Massimino stadium. The Japanese playmaker joins on a 5 year deal worth £115,000 a week. With a further £41 million spent on transfers including Cristian Ledesma and Landon Donovan, chairman Silvio Romano and manager Mircea Lucescu are looking to put together a squad that can challenge the big boys of Italian football.

Pennarossa have bought solid midfielder Rio Mavuba for £16.5 million, the clubs highest fee in July. With Anderson joining from Man Utd and defenders Darijo Srna and Federico Balzaretti also linking up with manager Ian Holloway, chairman Chris Robinson must be hoping for a successful season after spending a total of £71 million!

The Romans’ manager Roberto Mancini has been rather quiet during July, only making 5 small signings for nominal fees and all relatively unknown youth team players. There are rumours circulating in the media that the club will announce at least one major signing in August though.

English Premier League Kicks Off

Splendid Saturday

Pep Guardiola’s Liverpool AFC were the only BTC participant team to play on the first Saturday of the Premier league season. Guardiola employed a 3-4-3 formation away at Swansea’s Liberty stadium, and it was the man with his name on bitter rival’s Everton C.F. stadium who scored Liverpool’s first ever competitive goal. Fernando Llorente’s 11th minute strike silencing the partisan Welsh crowd. David Villa adding a second before half time and that’s how it stayed. New signing Rafael van der Vaart came on as a late substitute but the game ended with a 2-0 win to the Merseyside club.

Sexy Sunday

Everton were playing on Sunday and their fans only filled half of the 45,000 capacity Estadio Fernando Llorente against Tottenham. It was new signing Clint Dempsey who scored to clubs first competitive goal in the 56th minute. And despite a late red card for Zdravko Kuzmanovic, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side held on to take a 1-0 win.

Mega Monday

Monday nights football came from the BorussiaTeeth Arena as Newcastle took on Wolverhampton Wanderers. Brazilian wonderkid Neymar scored the opening goal in the 15th minute as Newcastle settled well. But an Ebanks-Blake penalty after David Luiz handled in the box left the Geordie faithful disappointed as they left the ground as van Gaal’s men took a 1-1 draw

Post Match Analysis

Derby games don't come much bigger than this, or as entertaining. A great advert for the Premier League but Liverpool should have won it in the last minute but Reina made an amazing save from Di Maria before they were denied a penalty after what seemed to be a blatent foul by Everton's Phil Jones. Nonetheless both side will be happy with the point.

Spanish Liga BBVA Kicks Off

Stupendous Sunday

C.F. Azteca’s find themselves top of the pile in Spain after the first round of matches. A first half Sergio Aguero hattrick sealed a 3-0 win against Levante at Estadio Azteca to leave the 18,000 strong home crowd dreaming of what might be this season under the stewardship of Arsene Wenger.

A Frank Ribery brace and a single Edison Cavani goal sealed a 3-0 win for Galacticos over Athletic as they find themselves in 2nd place in Liga BBVA on alphabetical order only. Diego Maradone said afterwards it was a privilege to manage such a talented group of players

Espanyol on the other hand will be disappointed to have lost 1-2 at home to Sevilla. In what was a very even match in which Sevilla had 10 men for an hour of the game, Adrian Colunga broke the hearts of the Estadi de la Pena stadium with a 68th minute goal that Espanyol could not come back from. Fabio Coentrao scored the opening goal of the game

Italian Serie A Kicks Off

Sultry Saturday

The first Saturday of the Serie A season saw Pennarossa knock 3 second half goals past Cagliari at Stadio Di Rossa Di Penna Calcio. Elia, Hernandez and new signing Maxi Rodriguez with the goals that see Ian Holloway’s side sitting 2nd after the first week.

Sick Sunday

In Sunday’s big game A.S. La Cosa Nostra played A.C. Milan at Notra’s Angelo Massimino stadium. Over 24,000 fans watched Milan beat the Serie A new boys 0-2 in a game that manager Mircea Lucescu will hope is wake up call for his side in how to play Italian league football.

Elsewhere, The Roman’s battled to a 0-1 away win over Genoa. New signing Andre Ayew with the single but oh so important strike. And despite The Roman’s being reduced to 10 men in the 63rd minute following Evra’s red card Roberto Mancini’s side held on.

Its ok to lose the first match. New team together, they will have to work on their chemistry. I will give Mircea Lucescu more time. I wont jump the gun like other owners. *cough* Abramovich *cough*
