All the talk in the lead-up to the match is that Galacticos manager Juan Carlos Garrido could be sacked should his team be defeated today. Garrido has only had 7 league games in charge since joining in the summer but Galacticos find themselves in a difficult 9th position.

Espanyol, on the other hand, are sitting nicely in 2nd position in La Liga and can stretch their unbeaten run to 13 if they get something from todays game.

Within 10 minutes it was obvious why Galacticos find themselves in midtable, giving the ball away on the halfway line and letting Suarez whip a ball into the centre only for it to be met by Galactico centre back Skrtel under no pressure but his header had to produce a world class save from Lloris to prevent the own goal. Despite their shaky start, Galacticos took the lead on 15 minutes, Cavani getting on the end of a Vidal through ball to fire high into the roof of the net. Galacticos midfield quartet were making it hard for Espanyol to put anything together, their formation allowing them to play conpact and stop Espanyol playing through the middle. Dezko did go close for Espanyol with a shot from a tight angle but the teams went in at halftime with just a goal between them. Ineista’s freekick went close for Galacticos at the start of the 2nd half but just minute later Coentrao gave the ball away to easily deep inside the Galacticos half and Galacticos broke quickly, the ball ending at Cavani’s feet following some slick passing to make it two for him and two for Galacticos. It was all galacticos now, Vidal going close before cavani pulled a ball back to Iniesta who blasted the ball home to make it three. Espanyol weren’t being given a sniff at goal and galacticos were creating chance after chance but it remained 3-0 at the final whistle and with it maybe a job saving performance for Galacticos manager Garrido.

Goodison Park was half empty but it was obvious from the starting lineups that both teams wanted to win this one. It took till the 12th minute for the first action of the game as Liverpools Ronaldo placed a shot just inches wide and 10 minutes later Ronaldo swept one just past the other post after good work from Villa. Everton were finding it hard to break through the Liverpool defence, Rooneys effort on the half hour mark well blocked by Jones. Liverpool were continuing to press but Everton always looked dangerous on the break as Bale sent one just wide. But it was Modric who gave Liverpool the lead following a wonderful individual run and finish. Magic stuff from Modric just before the half time whitle. Four minutes after the restart Modric again tested Everton keeper ter Stegen but this time the goalkeep came out on top. Everton’s Montillo then showed just how good a player he is as he dribbled past 3 defenders only to see his 25 yard shot clawed out of the top corner by Liverpool keeper Reina with 30 minutes remaining. With 20 minutes to go, Everton substitute Diego Forlan blasted the ball wide from 10 yards when it looked easier to score. Maybe this wasn’t going to be Everton’s day! Liverpool still looked dangerous and when Ronaldo played a one two with van der Vaart, his shot was saved by ter Stegen and the rebound fell to Villa who passed the ball into an empty net to double Liverpool’s lead with just 15 minutes remaining. Phil Jones saw his header go just wide for Everton but with just 6 minutes remaining they lost all hope of a comeback with a red card for 16 year old right back Sean Conchie following a daft foul by the young substitute. Liverpool held strong against the 10 men and take away a win against their local rivals and a place in the League Cup Quarter Finals.

Which title, since I have the EPL sewn up and in the bag? :p

glad we've moved further up the table, we just need to keep on pushing to get back to those champions league spots, although i fear the squad could be a little too small to challenge on all fronts this season.

Wow, what a bad loss to Galacticos... 4th place isn't really where we want to be, but being behind by only 3 points make me optimistic :)

Look out for Newcastle this season! No European competition is a blessing in disguise!

Need to start scoring more, however.

Pre Match Analysis

Pennarossa have been on a fairly good run of late after a poor start to the season and last year’s Serie A runners-up find themselves in 8th with the chance to move 3rd should results go their way.

LCN find themselves a disappointing 13th in Serie A but a win today could see them rise as high as 5th. LCN are also undefeated away from home this term.

Post Match Analysis

Conca has arguably been LCN’s best player so far this season and his 3rd minute effort sailed just wide of the post during the first freal action of the game. LCN have started the game better, knocking the ball round nicely but Pennarossa’s Xavi’s freekick produced a fine save from Casillas in the LCN goal. A very strange moment in the match followed in the 23rd minute. LCN stand in centre back Angelo Palombo receiveing the ball 25 yards from his own goal, but the Pennarossa forwards quickly closed him down and he was dribbling backwards, but instead of passing back to his keeper to clear, Palombo tried to go long and hit his clearance straight into Pennarossa’s Yaya Toure. The ball went up in the air, over the keeper and hit the bar! Eboue was a yard out and level with the post as he got on the end of the rebound but somehow Palombo got back and cleared his header off the line! How did Eboue not score??? Eboue just can’t seem to score! Two minute later he received a cross from Toure 7 yards from goal and unmarked but he could only hit straight at Casillas in the LCN goal. What a muppet! And LCN made him pay, Kagawa with the through ball and Douglas Costa with the finish from a slight angle to put LCN one up. Pennrossa still had time to fashion a chance before halftime but when he found himself one on one with Casillas, the goalkeeper came out on top and the half time whistle sounded. And what a boring 2nd half we had. LCN produced no efforts at goal for the entire hand whereas Pennarossa could only fashion two chances; Shawcross’s head which flashed just over and Hernandez seeing his 18 yard shot saved well by Casillas. It was the last minute of stoppage time and Xavi’s through ball had found Pennarossa’s right back Srna in all kinds of space, but Casillas saves again to win the match for LCN as the full time whistle goes. A clear MoM performance for the LCN stopper to win the game for LCN.

Just 5 minutes in and we have our first goal! Bale’s free kick for Everton smashed against the bar but the rebound fell to Ganso who quickly turned and fired low into the bottom corner. Newcastle’s Robben fashioned their first chance of the day but his 25 yard shot skimmed just over the Everton crossbar after 26 minutes. Newcastle kept on giving free kicks away around their own box but Bale and Ganso failed to trouble Bravo in nets. Newcastle has a chance just before half time but the teams went in with just a goal between them thanks to Hamsik’s shot sailing over the bar. The second half went the same as the first half with both sides chances being few and far between. Newcastle seemed to be playing the bully boy tactics, 5 yellow cards in the first half but they seemed to calm down a bit in the second half. Vargas produced a good save from ter Stegen in the Everton goal on a rare Newcastle foray forward while Ganso and Bale went close for Everton at the other end. Everton were having all the possession but just couldn’t turn it into decent opportunities at goal and as the final whistle blew there was a huge sigh of relief that echoed around Goodison Park.

Still hanging on in the league, and through to the knockout stages in CL :) Hector Cuper seems to be doing a solid job

i still think we need more depth to the side but things look to be slowly picking up as teh season goes on and aslong as we get a draw from teh galatassary game then we're though to the knockout stages, and could still get through even if we lose as we have better head to head against marsaille.

7 points clear now, and in the last 16 of the CL with only nil-points Steaua to play, meaning we should get a top position qualification. :D

11 points off the top, not good

but only 6 points off second place, and 3 points off me in 5th, so you're definately not out of teh hunt as far as champions league football goes, and it only takes a wobble from fiorentina before it's blown wide open again.
