A strange month for Los Che, with two losses, a draw and three very good wins. Next up are German side Stuttgart away from home in the Europa League. Batistuta had another match this month, when Argentina travelled to Hampden Park.
*EDIT*
Valencia triumph in dirty display from hosts
Match turns sour as Germans foul, foul and foul again
Miguel picks up injury
A very good performance from Valencia should have been much better, but the hosts Stuttgart resorted to fouling, not letting Valencia play their game. This backfired heavily, as Stuttgart lost 2-0 after two penalties were put into their net.
The German side started fouling right from the off, injuring winger Salamon Kalou after just 5 minutes. He is now out for a minimum of 7 weeks. Valencia began to get going, hitting the woodwork on a number of occasions. Stuttgart began incessantly fouling again, and karma hit them hard as they conceded a penalty after Mauro Camoranesi's foul on Roberto Soldado. The way Camoranesi went down, ironically, injured him, ruling him out for a week. Jeremy Matheiu converted the penalty.
After the break, Valencia pressured again, but couldn't break through Stuttgart's back four, whose hard tackling wasn't annoying the referee, Belgian Frank de Bleeckere. It wasn't until the 89th minute, when Miguel went down injured (with an injury ruling him out for 4 weeks) and Valencia got another penalty. This time, Roberto Soldado converted.
So, going into the fianl fixture, this is how the group looks.
Team GD Pts
FC Kobenhavn +2 10
Valencia +4 9
Stuttgart +4 9
Aris -10 1
So with Aris out, it will be must win for all sides if they want to secure qualification. If Copenhagen beat Valencia, they are through. If Valencia beat Copenhagen by a higher margin than Stuttgart beat Aris, tehy are through. Stuttgart must hope they can better Valencia's result against Aris.
Argentina fail to break British curse
Argies fall to shock loss against brave Scots
Brown takes credit, but replays show Dorrans got final touch
The 'mighty' Argentina today found themselves licking their wounds for the third time this year...they've only lost to British sides.
From the three times that Gabriel Batistuta's Argies have took on any of the nations from the UK, they have found themselves beaten.
They lost to England 4-1 in the World Cup semi-final. They lost to Wales in a friendly at the Millenium Stadium by 3 goals to 1.
Now, they've lost to Scotland.
The Tartan Army came out in force to see Batistuta's side come to Hampden, and came away with an incredible victory.
Argentina have, however, not booked any friendlies against British sides for 2011, so it looks like the Olympics will be the only time a British team will face Argentins before the next World Cup.
That is, if Team GB comes into existence.
If not, and that does seem unlikely, then we may have to wait until 2014 until we see if Argentina can break their British curse.
