Carling Cup Quarter Final Draw

The draw for the Quarter Finals of the Carling Cup see's a mouthwater clash between Manchester City and Liverpool. City's manager Roberto Mancini who's team have somewhat underperformed so far this season will be hoping to beat Kenny Daglish's men at the Etihad Stadium. Arsenal face Championship side Coventry who have seen off Southend, Reading, Brighton and Norwich to get this far in the competition. If they take Arsenal's scalp then manager Andy Thorn will be hailed as the mastermind for his teams Cup run by the Coventry fans.

The only other side out of the Premier League to be drawn was Preston who were paired off against Sunderland. The League 1 club have beaten Wallsall, Watford, Aldershot and Blackpool to earn their place in the Quarter Final.

The only other pairing is the Fulham V Newcastle tie which will provide another mouthwatering clash.

Some good updates mate. Preston looking good in the Carling Cup. Doubt they'll beat Sunderlan though. KIU

November 2011

Manchester United and Mike Phelan will be hoping that United can shake off thier poor form which saw them crash out of the Carling Cup and see's them on the brink of Champions League exile. The Red Devils Premier League form has also taken a dive and the club seem to be in a lull. Mike Phelan has issued a statement taking responsibilty for United's recent bad performances as he tries to take the pressure off his players.

David De Gea who has not had the best induction into English football has been dropped and replaced by Anders Lindegaard who will hopefully put in some confident performances
, something United's young Spanish keeper has failed to do so far this season.

Man Utd showed Lyon just how good they really are with a strong performance which see's Group B left wide open with Napoli, United and Lyon all in contention to qualify for the latter stages of the competition. Wayne Rooney was on hand to upstage the French team and scored from the spot after being hurled to the ground by Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris.

Gylfi Sigurdsson scored a fantastic effort which he drilled into the back of the net with some force. The Icelandic midfielder is starting to show signs of why Phelan and United were so keen to sign him. Rooney wrapped up the game with a tap in just before Lisandro Lopez's late consolation. United look to have extracted a bit of revenge from their defeat to the French club two weeks ago.

Everton who have suprised everyone this season with their march in to second place, succumbed to a heavy defeat by the team that sit above them. David Moyes looked bemused as he tried to encourage his team to play on with heart. Ashley Young made it a nightmare start for the Toffee's, scoring after just four minutes. Danny Welbeck didn't make the day go any better as he smashed in a second just after ten minutes.

After halftime Everton perked up a bit and scored through their Argentine striker Denis Stracqualursi. This seemed to rile up Manchester United and it was substitute Gylfi Gigurdsson who got their third goal as he slid the ball into the Everton net from an Ashley Young cross. Danny Welbeck and Rooney grabbed United's other goals as a happy looking Mike Phelan watched in delight.

Aston Villa who have had a dreadful season so far were once again beaten at home. Their form has seen them drop into the relegation zone and fans calling for McLeish to be removed. It was an error from Villa which saw Man Utd get their first goal. Carlos Cuellar lost possession in the box to Ashley Young who squared a ball into the path of Anderson who swept a low drive into the Villa goal.

Man Utd captain Nemanja Vidic played extremely well, mopping up any rare Villa attack and scoring a powerful header late on. Anders Lindegaard had very little to do all game but when Villa managed to flash a shot towards him, he looked assured and comfortable. If the Villains continue to play like this they will surely be heading towards the drop and on towards the Championship. Man Utd's Young Spanish recruit
Jesé was unfortunately injured and looks likely to be out for some time.

With United dispatching Olympiakos easily, it still leaves their hopes of Qualifying down to the very last day against Italy's strong side Napoli. However a young looking United managed to see off their Greek opponents and looked compfortable in doing so. United's summer signing Tinga opened the scoring as he smashed in a loose ball in the box to take his goal tally to three for the season.

Danny Welbeck pounced on an opportunity to make it two goals for United as he cleverly linked up with substitute
Nani to get United's second. Welbeck played well and looks like he will feature for United for many years to come.

A brilliant result for newly promoted Swansea which see's them pull further away from the relegation zone. It's still early days but if their form continues they will be safe come the end of the season. United looked good but were ultimately undone by a petter performance by the Swans. Brenden Rogers looked exstatic as his team took control of the game.

United strikers Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez failed to score past Michael Vorm and suffered an extremely frustrating ninety minutes. Mike Phelan will be concerned about the result but will also realise that Swansea played extremely well and deserved the win. United will have to take stock and look at this performance if they are to march on in the league.

Premier League Table

Man Utd still head the pack going into the festive month, followed by Everton who suffered a heavy loss to the league leaders. Behind lye Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City who all clawed back some points on the Red Devils after seeing Phelan's team lose to Swansea. All three promoted teams stay out of the relegation zone. Norwich sita place above it with West Brom and Swansea further above them. Tottenham lay mid table and have failed to live up to recent seasons while Wolves who lay Eighth are another suprise package this season so far.

scaled.php

Champions League Table

Man Utd will have to outplay and beat Napoli in their last game of the Champions League if they want any hope of progressing into the Knockout stages. Phelan will be worried as he has to take his team to Italy and beat the Italian side who possess the likes of Edison Cavani, Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Levazzi. If they lose and Lyon win United will be resigned to playing in the Europa League which will be seen as an embarassment to them.

Just trial and error mate. Was Hard though.

Jesé injured as Nani Returns

Man Utd's young Spanish striker who was injured coming on against Aston Villa in the league will be sidelined for 2-3 Months. The youngster has torn a hamstring and needs Physio to bring him back to full fitness. It comes as a blow to the younster as recently he has started to play in a few games for the Champions, making brief cameo appearances and starting to impress. Jesé is still to score for the Red Devils but has so far looked good in the famous Red Devil shirt. Phelan will be keeping an eye on the exciting fowards progress and hoping he gets fit again soon.

It's not all bad news for Man Utd as Nani has returned to full training which will delight Mike Phelan who will be calling on Nani to help push the club further out of sight from their rivals. Nani who also tore his Hamstring was injured against Stoke in August. He will be itching to get back in the team and looks likely to be thrown into United's next game.

Your graphics are great mate. Love how you do your monthly updates and then go on to divulge more in between. KIU

Brilliant story mate. This is the first time I've had a proper look at it and it's quality. Keep it up :)

Quality story mate. Great layout and use of graphics. Keep up the good work!

Great story so far, like the little bits that are added inbetween the monthly updates, and the neatness of the updates :) Also, strange as it sounds, I see some stories that don't include a league table at the end of the month, so thats a nice touch too :)

December 2011

Man Utd stroll into December still at the top of the table in the Premier League and looking quite comfortable at the summit. They have a five point lead of second placed Everton and have looked good for the majority of the season so far. This month however Mike Phelan will see his side take on the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City. Man Utd will really have to show what they're made of if they are to pick up maximum points in all of these games. Especially with the Red Devils rivals waiting to pounce if United slip up.

Phelan will also take his team to Italy to face Napoli in a crunch game in the Champions League which could see United left finishing third in their group and banished into the Europa League. If this were to happen it could derail United's season and would be considered a massive failure in their European adventure this season!

United bounced back from their defeat against Swansea and really battered Arsenal and showed up Arsene Wenger. The Gunners at times looked distant from their usual selves and seemed in awe of United who looked impressive and confident. Wayne Rooney netted an incredible four goals and pulled all the strings in a game which was made for him.

Gylfi Sigurdsson who is enjoying a good start to the season with United scored from a trademark freekick and played well too. Rooney scored his fourth and best goal of the game in the seventy-eighth minute, looping a chip over Wojciech Szczesny which to the United strikers delight bounced in over the line. Phelan who was in an ecstatic mood gave his striker a hug at the end of the game, as the lone figure of Arsene Wenger looked on.

Man Utd, Mike Phelan and the United fans can all breathe a huge sigh of relief as the Red Devils have qualified for the Knockout Stages of the Champions League. They have however made it harder work than it could of been, they do however just creep into the last 16 of the competition. Napoli provided a stern test, especially in freezing temperatures in Naples.

Javier Hernandez returned to his scoring ways and put United ahead from some clever play in the box. Radja Nainggoaln then sent the United fans into a frenzy as he smashed in a screamer from thirty five yards out. The United fans were in for some tense time in the final minutes though, as Napoli scored through Ezequiel Lavezzi and looked to have scored again through Marek Hamsik but the goal was ruled offside. United qualify....Just!

In a tough midfield minded game today United and Chelsea share the points which both teams will take. Chelsea looked the brighter side early on and could have scored through Didier Drogba but didn't due to a fantastic Rafael challenge which spared Lindegaard having to deal with a one on one. Lampard then slammed a shot against the post which he really should have sent into the net.

As the game recommenced after half time it was Man Utd who against the run of play took the lead through Javier Hernandez. He scooped up the ball from Rooney and then skipped past David Luiz and calmly slid the ball under Petr Cech and into the Chelsea goal. The lead didn't last long though as Lampard who had learnt from his earlier mistake, smashed a shot into the United goal to level up the match

Wolves were put to the slaughter today and left looking like whimpering dogs as the Red Devils chased them all over the park today. Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Paul Pogba all scored within the first half an hour making it three goals in no time. Wolves fought back and eventually equalised as Chris Smalling fluffed the ball into his own net from some sloppy defending in the United box.

Gylfi Sigurdsson smashed in a beautiful freekick just after the restart but then gave away a penalty to Wolves, Matt Jarvis took it and scored from it. Wayne Rooney popped up again late on to cap off an excellent display with another goal. Phil Jones who was playing in a midfield role today, looked in inspiring form and really dictated the tempo.

Blackburn sent Ewood Park into a frenzy in this game, totally dismantling the current league leaders and putting a dent into their title ambitions. Radosav Petrovic and Steven N'Zonzi put the home side two goals up before half time and Junior Hoilett made it three goals just after half time. United looked lost and in need of some fresh legs.

Phelan bought on, Danny Welbeck and Ryan Giggs at half time who linked up well and eventually linked up to create United's first goal. The young Englishman looked confident working with Giggs and performed well. Gylfi Sigurdsson scored in the eigthy-ninth minute with a powerful longe range shot but United just couldn't find a third goal.

Boxing Day Derby day saw nothing short of a good old fashioned battle, with United and City putting it all on the line as each team looked for the three points. Vincent Kompany scored early on in what looked like being the first goal of many for City who dominated the first thirty-five minutes of the match. United held strong though and almost equalised through Antonio Valencia who just skimmed his shot wide of Joe Harts goal.

The second half started and City once again dominated with Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko linking up well. Neither however could really wriggle themselves free of a United defender and ended up frustrated each time they attacked. Danny Welbeck sent the United fans into rapturous applause as he scored in the ninety-fourth minute, claiming a point United probably didnt deserve.

After some lacklustre results United looked to take their performances back to the next level and used Newcastle as there whipping boys. Phelan who has chosen to use Paul Pogba alot this season hasn't been disappointed by the young Frenchman. He had scored five goals in all competitions until he added two more in this match. Rooney also grabbed himself a brace and looked confident up front with Welbeck.

Newcastle looked awful defensively and could only blame themselves for two of United's goals and Cheick Tiote and Tim Krul scored two of their opponents goals today from shoddy defensive work.

MOM - Paul Pogba

Premier League Table

Mike Phelan will be pleased that he leads his team into the New Year still sitting at the top of the table. Liverpool replace their fierce rivals Everton in second place and Chelsea lye third a point behind them. Arsenal dwindle down in fifth place just above Wolves and five points ahead of Tottenham. Wigan hold up the Premier League with just a mere six points and have been labled the favourites to go down this year.

Champions League Table

After Napoli's defeat at home to United they now see themselves resigned to playing in the Europa League, They will be a strong favourite to win the competition but still would have preferred to be in the Champions League. Olympique Lyonnais also qualify after beating Olympiakos in the last game of the group stages. Both United and Lyon will now await their fate when the draw for the last 16 is made.

That Arsenal game looked like it would have been good to watch haha. Good update keep it up :)

Yeah. Lol. They're (Arsenal) playing a good game tonight so my Sky Sports App is telling me

A mixed bag there :P Good win against Arsenal and Napoli, their tough sides. Strange that you lost to Blackburn like United did in real life though o.O Hope you get a good draw for the Champions League :)

You lost to Blackburn... Lol where have I heard that before. Who you thinking of signing in Jan?

Champions League Knockout Stage & F.A Cup Third Round Draws

Man Utd face a potentially tricky tie against CSKA Moscow. It means Man Utd will have to travel to Russia mid-way through the season to play the away leg. This could potentially affect their season as a trip to Russia is no easy feat. Phelan will be quietly confident however that his team have enough about them to see off their opponents and progress further on into the competition.

scaled.php

Man City face tough opposition as they play the German Champions Dortmund. Players like Shinji Kagawa and Mario Gotze will have to be handled if City want to win the game and the German will provide very stiff competition. Mancini will have make sure his team are at their best. Arsenal face off against Lyon who progreesed through from Group B along with United and Chelsea who finished as runners up in their group face Group C winners FC Porto. Both the London clubs will be favourites to progress but anything can happen in football.

pic_2011-12_fa_cup_bud_logo_small.jpg

Mike POhelan will be chuffed that his side have been paired up with Morecambe in the F.A Cup. The minnows will be given no hope and widely expected to drop out of the competition after sharing ninety minutes with the Red Devils. It's been speculated that Phlean will recall his youngsters for this game so they can experience some more game time and to rest his bigger stars.

The marquee match of this round is the London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea. Both clubs will want to progress and will put everything on the line to ensure they qualify.
