Just on SSN now. Will post link when it's up.

Top signing in my opinion, great young keeper with all the attributes.

EDIT: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,12040_6950673,00.html - Confirmation

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Manchester United will sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea this summer.
The Red Devils have been scouring Europe to find a replacement for veteran shot-stopper Edwin van der Sar, who will retire after Saturday's UEFA Champions League final with Barcelona.
Talented Spanish youngster De Gea has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and has won Ferguson's vote ahead of other reported targets such as Ajax's Maarten Stekelenburg and Schalke's Manuel Neuer.
As revealed by skysports.com earlier on Tuesday, a deal between the Red Devils and Atletico is in place, with a fee understood to be in the region of 21million euros (£18.3million) with additional add-ons.

And Ferguson feels that the 20-year-old is the ideal man to fill the giant void which will be left by the exit of veteran Dutchman Van der Sar this summer.

Outstanding replacement

The Scot told Sky Sports News: "We've been working on it for quite a while, we identified him a while back as one we should go for.
"He's a young goalkeeper, very quick, with good composure and presence. He's an outstanding replacement for Edwin van der Sar.
"We were looking for someone with the same types of qualities. One great quality Edwin always had was his composure and organisational ability.
"David De Gea is very similar that way."

Least they got a decent keeper, dont want another crisis like after Schmeichel retired <)

Surprised at this in the end tbh.

Thought their interest had cooled but evidently playing it on the down-low.

Personally I think its quite a big risk. He's still young, meaning he still has a lot of mistakes to make!! Although on the other hand he has already won the UEFA Cup!!

Is VdS staying on in any capacity? As a coach or something? De Gea is still young and will quite possibly need a mentor - very exciting for the PL to have Szczesny, De Gea, Wilshere, Varane, Smalling, etc. -> All young players plying their trade in the EPL.

looks a good signing but i still would rather Sczeznsy :D

MUFC have confirmed that he will sign on July 1st, for £17M.
Fantastic signing. A lot of people's number 1 choice so very happy about that, and hopefully he'll kick on immediately.

he is taking a break for a few months then coming back as a coach

GuillemBalague David de Gea will join #MUFC for £17 m; clubs agreed fee 2 months ago via Jorge Mendes; player needed time, now accepted

Neuer was my first choice, but very excited about this signing. Quality GK, just 20 years old. Hope he wont say he has Barca DNA after few years.. If not GK position is set for more than a decade if he can settle in well..

Looks like theyve got their keeper situation sorted for the best part of 2 decades now...

So would I.

1. Biased
2. He was free

But let's not risk a backlash! Excellent signing from what i've heard - haven't seen much of him personally but that's a big fee for a GK.

Just confirmed by the club according to Geoff Shreeves at the testimonial

According to Jeff Stelling this has now been confirmed by Atletico.

Sky: Jeff Stelling from Sky Sports confirmed that we will be signing De Gea as a replacement for Van Der Sar. #MUFC

Not really new news to be honest, Ballague broke this news like a month ago on Revista De La Liga about the clubs agreeing a fee and the club was talking to De Gea.

Brilliant signing, he's moving his family girlfriend and every bit of baggage he has over here to avoid homesickness and settle in alot quicker. All the signs are that for at least the next 10 years he will be Uniteds goalkeeper brilliant professional as well, alot like Neuer in that sense, turns up to training works extremely hard and goes home to his family none of the modern footballers antics.

Atletico will go on as well, Sergio Asenjo is an excellent prospect if he stays fit alot of people have forgot about him and his 7 million move

If he succeeds - a goalkeeper for 15 years

If he doesn't - waste of money

The possibiliy of succeeding is relatively big in my opinion, so I think it's a good purchase.

big pressure for a young player. It's a slight risk but it should pay off. Fergie will know how to mentor him ;)

Don't want to take a risk with not having a quality GK for years again. Could be a quality keeper for 15+ years, great investment.

Twenty one & moving to a new country, new language & bringing his family & girlfriend with him. It's a big ask on it's own without the challenge of playing for Manchester United. Massive test of character for him and I wish him luck.

I dont know how people are saying shezny prefered to de gea, de gea is 21 and has already showed amazing attributes.

for 17m i think is a great signing, seeing that if he carries on in this great form sf succes could rise to the 25-30m price range.
Glad to see him come, woudlnt of mind steklengurg for the experience and because he succeded vds in holland team so he must be decent.

CANT WAIT for july 1st now :D, he has got a big challage but I believe he will do well, UNITED!
