First of all, this is the 1st story I have done so any feedback/suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.

I have chosen to use my team Bristol City.
Short Term Ambitions:
  • Stay well clear from relegation.
  • Push for the play-offs.
Long Term Ambitions:
  • Achieve promotion.
  • Stay in Premier League.
The Dream:
  • Become an established Premier League team.
  • Bring European football to Ashton Gate.
  • Win the Premier League!
And so we begin...

A month of draws means we are still unbeaten but without a win in 5 games. Lucky to still be top as the teams just below us also had a patchy month.

Verdict: 2 points clear at the top after 88th minute winner.

Torquay United 0-2 Bristol City (Pitman 2)

Verdict: Comfortable enough victory although the winning margin should have been bigger.

19.1.13 Championship
Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Bristol City (Pitman, Nyatanga)

Verdict: Another away win puts us 1 point behind Newcastle.

26.1.13 Championship
Bristol City 2-0 Norwich City (Nyatanga, Alex Nimely O.G)

Verdict: A surprisingly comfortable victory completes a magnificent double over Norwich.

Verdict:Great performance to earn a replay. Gives me some hope that we might be able to compete in the Premier League if we can secure promotion.

5.2.13 Championship
Crystal Palace 0-3 Bristol City (Stewart, Woolford, Elliott)

Verdict: Very good win, good to see we didn't suffer a hangover from the tough game 3 days earlier.

Leeds United 2-4 Bristol City (Maynard 2, Tom Lees O.G, Rhodes)

Verdict: Another good performance. 4 wins out 4 against Leeds. Top again by 2 points.

19.2.13 Championship
Burnley 1-2 Bristol City (Maynard, Lee Grant O.G)

Verdict: A little fortuitous with the own goal but 6 straight league wins now.

23.2.13 Championship
Bristol City 2-2 Watford (Rhodes, Stewart)

Verdict: Disappointed not to win but unbeaten run extended to 10 games.
Monthly Review

The draw against Watford cost me the Manager of the Month award (came 2nd) but still a good month with 3 wins and 1 draw. Obviously the cup exit was a shame but the games against Manchester United were a great test and we certainly gave a good account of ourselves.

March
2.3.13 Championship
Portsmouth 0-3 Bristol City (Woolford, Rhodes, Pitman)

Verdict: Thoroughly convincing win.

6.3.13 Championship
Bristol City 2-1 Middlesbrough (Woolford, Piazon)

12.3.13 Championship
Sheffield United 0-1 Bristol City (Maynard)

20.3.13 Championship
Bristol City 2-1 Swansea City (Stewart, Carey)

Verdict: They couldn't end our unbeaten run this time! Unbeaten in 15 now.

23.3.13 Championship
Barnsley 0-1 Bristol City (Maynard)

Verdict: Very similar to the Sheffield Utd game. Puts us 7 points clear at the top of the table.

30.3.13 Championship
Bristol City 0-5 Ipswich Town

Verdict: Awful performance brings the unbeaten run to an abrupt end.
Monthly Review
Again the last game of the month costs me the Manager of the Month award, again coming in 2nd. 6 wins and 1 defeat still a very good return. 7 points clear of Newcastle, but more importantly 2 wins will guarantee us promotion!!

1.4.13 Championship
Millwall 0-2 Bristol City (Piazon, Stead)

Verdict: Important to get straight back to winning ways. 1 more win needed.

6.4.13 Championship
Blackpool 4-9 Bristol City (Maynard 4, Piazon, Fontaine, Woolford, Pitman, Stead)

Verdict: We needed a win and we got it! I would have taken a 1-0 win but that bizarre scoreline will do just fine. 5 games to go, 10 points clear of Newcastle in 2nd.

17.4.13 Championship
Bristol City 2-2 Southampton (Adomah, Pitman)

Verdict: Failure to take our chances means Newcastle close the gap to 8 points.

23.4.13 Championship
Bristol City 2-2 Peterborough United (Maynard, Fontaine)

Verdict: Another disappointed draw. Lead reduced to 6 points.

27.4.13 Championship
Brighton & Hove Albion 3-3 Bristol City (Woolford, Adomah 2)

Verdict: Good fightback from 3-1 down, but with Newcastle winning again the lead is now only 4 points.
Monthly Review
A great start to the month sealing an unexpected promotion with no fuss. Sealing the title however is proving more tricky having drawn the last 3. Newcastle at home next...

May
4.5.13 Championship
Bristol City 2-3 Newcastle United (Woolford, Maynard)

Verdict: It's going down to the wire after that. No excuses, we weren't good enough today. They are now 1 point behind going into the last fixtures which are ... Cardiff vs Bristol City, Newcastle vs Middlesbrough.

12.5.13 Championship (TV)
Cardiff City 0-2 Bristol City (Maynard, Piazon)

Verdict: We may have eventually stumbled over the line but there is no sweeter way to seal the title than in the back yard of one of your rivals! Fantastic result.

Season Review
Having only set out to achieve a top-half finish and maybe mount a challenge for the play-offs, so to win the league and be named Championship Manager of the Year is really quite special.

Summer Transfers
In:
Brad Friedel (GK) - £50K from Tottenham Hotspur
Alberto de la Bella (LB) - £2.5M Malaga (Club Record Transfer Fee)
Michael Johnson (CM) - Free from Manchester City
Jonathan Walters (ST) - £5.25M from Stoke City (Club Record Transfer Fee)
Andreas Granqvist (CB) - £6M from Wigan Athletic (Club Record Transfer Fee)
Hervin Ongenda (ST) - Loan from Manchester City

Out:
Jamal Campbell-Ryce - Released
Bobby Reid - Released
Joe Bryan - Released
Brett Pitman - Free to Portsmouth
Lewin Nyatanga - £2.1M to Wolverhampton Wanderers
Yala Bolasie - Loan to Watford (£275K initial fee)
Aaron Holloway - Loan to Crewe Alexandra

Verdict: Smashing the club record transfer fee three times in a matter of weeks may be necessary to stay in the division. Happy with the players I have brought in. Friedel is a top keeper and although he is fairly old, £50K is a snip! Disappointed that Pitman went for free as I could not get him to sign a new contract due to the lack of games he was getting.

Season Objective: Avoid relegation as we are favourites for the drop, would be a great achievement if I could pull it off.

August
17.8.13 Premier League
Bristol City 1-1 Bolton Wanderers (Maynard)

Verdict: First point on the board is good, important not to have lost the game but felt we really could have won it.

24.8.13 Premier League
Birmingham City 2-3 Bristol City (Granqvist, Ongenda, Maynard)

Verdict: Great away win. Happy that two of the summer signings scored. Really important to get results against the fellow promoted teams and other clubs that will be in and around the relegation zone.

28.8.13 League Cup 2nd Round
Bristol City 2-1 Wrexham (Rhodes, Stead)

Verdict: Made several changes and just about did enough to win.

31.8.13 Premier League
Bristol City 2-3 Everton (Maynard, Adomah)
Verdict: To be 2-1 with 15 minutes left and lose is very disappointed, the winner coming in stoppage time.
Monthly Review

Sitting in a healthy 9th place after 3 games played is a very pleasing start to the season despite the points dropped against Everton.

September
14.9.13 Premier League (TV)
Manchester United 3-1 Bristol City (Stewart)

Verdict: Gave a good account of ourselves. These aren't the games that will determine whether we stay up though.

21.9.13 Premier League
Bristol City 4-0 Sunderland (Woolford, Rhodes, Ongenda, Stewart)

Verdict: A surprisingly dominant win.

25.9.13 League Cup 3rd Round
Newcastle United 2-0 Bristol City

Verdict: Poor result. Would have liked a cup run, but Premier League survival is what really matters.

28.9.13 Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Bristol City

Verdict: We couldn't cope with a very good Tottenham team.
Monthly Review
The win against Sunderland the only positive result but there were some pretty tough fixtures. Anything we can get from the top clubs is a bonus. We currently sit 13th with some very important fixtures in October.
