Mixing it with the big boys with ... Bristol City!?

April
4.4.21 Premier League (TV)
Bristol City 3-1 Arsenal (Morales 2, Nangis)

Verdict: Great, well deserved victory.

8.4.21 Europa League Quarter Final Leg 1 (TV)
Bristol City 1-1 Inter Milan (Nangis)

Verdict: Unfortunately couldn't find a winner when Inter were reduced to 10 men.

Verdict: Very disappointing, drop to 4th on goal difference.

15.4.21 Europa League Quarter Final Leg 2 (TV)
Inter Milan 1-1 Bristol City (Schneider)
(Inter Milan won on penalties)

17.4.21 F.A Cup Semi Final (TV)
Bristol City 2-1 Chelsea (Morales, Nangis)

Verdict: Was concerned about fatigue having played 120 minutes in Italy 2 days previous, but we played well and deserved to reach our 1st F.A Cup Final since 1909, 122 years.

21.4.21 Premier League
Chelsea 1-0 Bristol City

Verdict: Revenge for Chelsea. We were extremely poor.

24.4.21 Premier League
Bristol City 2-0 Cardiff City (Nangis, Enric)

Highlight of the month undoubtedly the F.A Cup Semi Final victory. Apart from that, not such a good month as dropped to 4th in the league and exited the Europa League in devastating fashion against Inter Milan.

May

Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 (aet) Bristol City (Vernaza, Nangis)

Verdict: Tottenham deserved it but annoyed with throwing the lead away twice.

Club Announcement
Manager Alex Morrison has signed a new 5-year contract with the club until 2026. He has already spent 10 years at the club and is set for at least 5 more. In his reign which has currently lasted a decade, Bristol City have risen from the Championship as Champions and have climbed as high as 5th in the Premier League. With 3 years of Europa League football already under their belt, the club is set for more of the same next season. In addition the club has won their first ever League Cup in 2019 and reached the 2021 F.A Cup Final during his tenure.

Summer Transfers
In:
Kristian Hansson (LB, RB) - £1.5M from Nottingham Forest
Mario Millan (ST) - £14M from PSV Eindhoven
Adrian Dettori (LB - £22.5M from River Plate (Record Transfer Fee)

Out:
Lewis Carey - Released (4 1st team appearances)
Eddie McCormack - Released (2 1st team appearances)
Jon Trego - Released (8 1st team appearances)
Andreas Granqvist - Free to RC Lens (271 appearances, 44 goals in all competitions)
Ross Archer - Loan to Woking
Andres Vernaza - £5.5M to Anji Makhachkala (236 appearances, 54 goals in all competitions)
Bill Ablett - Loan to Port Vale
Rowan Davies - Loan to Cheltenham

Verdict: Happy to bring in a left back even if it meant setting us back £22.5M. It means that the total cost of my 1st choice back 4 accumulates to £72.5M so we had better start conceding less goals! Brought in some much needed depth up front in Mario Millan, after letting Andres Vernaza go because he didn't quite cut the mustard. The departure of Granqvist slightly upset the fans and the board, however at 36 years old I feel he is past his prime and not good enough for a team trying to break into the top 4.

Also during the summer, Barcelona submitted a £40M bid for Miroslav Djurdjevic, which I had no choice but to accept due to the Minimum Release Clause in his contract. However, in a desperate attempt to keep him, I offered him a new contract in the hope that somehow he would somehow choose to stay rather than go to Spain. Unbelievably he did!

Simon Jeppesen - Loan (£300K Fee) to Feyenoord
Bill Ablett - Loan to Oldham

Verdict: The departure of Mario Millan was disappointing, however he was insisting on a new contract with extortionate wages, and when I refused handed in a transfer request. We received 15 offers for him after transfer listing him and Atletico Madrid were one of 5 clubs who met the minimum release clause on his current deal and consequently he moved on after just 1 season (turned £14M into £28M though!). No big signings, but after scouting Torres Gomez for a year and him rejected a contract offer from us January I am pleased to have finally got my man.
