What a great tactic!
I've used it during 2 seasons with Saint-Etienne (2013-2014 and 2014-2015), results so far:
2013-2014: Won the championship (95points, 83goals scored, 14 conceded), Won the French national cup. Lost in semi final of the French league cup. Lost in 1/8 final of the champions league
2014-2015: Won everything!!! championship (93points, 86goals scored, 20 conceded) (I was unbeaten until march, but then the agenda was a nightmare and I had to sacrifice some games to keep a competitive team for the champions league), French national cup, French league cup, Champions league!! (I've beaten Juventus (7-2), Arsenal (5-2), Bayern Munich(4-1) and Manchester city(1-0))
Here is my team:
Ruffier
Corchia - Aderveweirld - Zuma - Ghoulam
Capoue
Robben - Sankharé - Guilavogui - Wellington Nem
Privat
Substitutes:
Coulibali
Danzé - Perrin - Mignot - Brison
Bayal
Hamouma - Lemoine - Cohade - Alessandrini
Toivonen
The main advice I would give you is: do not modify deeply your team from one season to another one. Players need a lot of time to get used to it. As an example, Toivonen, recruited in july, was a pure **** until march, I was about to sell it in January but didn't have time to find another player so I kept it, and he finally scored more than 1 goal per match during the last 3months. Same story with Sankharé, signed in July, pure **** the first 6months, but after January he became a complete beast! (2goals against Arsenal, 2 goals against Munich).
This tactic can clearly counterbalance your players' level, so don't rush anything during the transfer windows. 1player at a time, and keep in mind he will not play well the first 6 months.
Anyway, clearly well done Mr Langvatn!!! and thank you for sharing this
