Norwich City promote Club Legend to be the Top Role

After a disappointing few years having been relegated from the Premier League in 2013, Norwich City chairman Alan Bowkett has looked to a club legend to lead the club back to the Promised Land. Introducing....

View attachment 307783

Darren Carl Huckerby

Huckerby was born in Nottingham. His mother is of partial Georgian descent. Huckerby started playing professionally for Lincoln City. Huckerby was promoted to the first team at Sincil Bank by Keith Alexander , but also played under the stewardship of both Sam Ellis and Steve Wicks before being sold in 1995.

He went on to play for Newcastle United, Coventry City, Leeds United and Manchester City before he joined Norwich City for £750,000 in December 2003. Netting 14 goals in his first season, he was instrumental in leading the Canaries to the Premier League. Reverting to a left wing role for much of Norwich's Premier League spell in 2004-05, Huckerby scored seven goals. He was linked with a transfer to either Liverpool or Celtic the following summer, but spoke of his intention to see out his contract in East Anglia.

He was voted Norwich City player of the year by supporters in 2004–05 and 2006-07, and placed second behind Gary Doherty for the 2005-06 season, winning the award twice and adding two runner-up positions in his first four seasons. He was voted into the Norwich City Hall of Fame in 2004.

On 4 May 2008, Huckerby scored in his final game for the club in a 4–1 defeat away at Sheffield Wednesday. Two days later, it was announced that his contract would not be renewed as he could not be guaranteed a place in the first team in the 2008–09 season. This upset fans who felt that Huckerby, a fan favourite, deserved a proper farewell. However, an opportunity was made with a special tribute at a 'Greatest Ever' event at Carrow Road held later in May.

He returns now though, on the 8th July 2014 intent on leading City to the Premier League in his first season back at the club, just like all those years ago.

Good luck with Norwich, should be fighting for the title, Elliott Bennett must be played by ya! lol

John Ruddy is an obvious key player, but we are blessed to have two great keepers in Ruddy and Rudd. Jonny Howson is the new captain and James Wilson comes in as one of two additions and will cover for Gary Hooper at the start of the season whilst he recovers from his injury. Josh Murphy has the potential to become a real superstar for us.

Wolves 3-1 Norwich City (AET)

I actually changed all eleven players for this game, with my focus absolutely on the league. We smashed Wolves on the opening day and so I still expected to win. We went 1 up, a first goal for Jacob Murphy, but unfortunately they hit back soon after. Turner was sent off for us and the players showed their fatigue in Extra Time.

Wolves 0-6 Norwich City
(Josh Murphy, Hoolahan (2), Grabban (2), Batth o.g)

What a way to start the season! Hoolahan was exceptional and Grabban came off of the bench to grab two goals for himself

Norwich City 4-
4 Watford
(Josh Murphy, Wilson, Hoolahan (2))

Brutally disappointed with this result. We were 4-1 up at half time and then just collapsed in the second half.

Norwich City 2-
0 Blackburn Rovers
(Josh Murphy, Hoolahan)

We truly dominated this game. 66% of the possession only tells half the story. I really feel as though Carrow Road can become a fortress.

View attachment 307472

Ipswich Town 2-3 Norwich City
(Grabban (3))

A well fought game but Grabban's first half hattrick proved to be the different, a thoroughly satisfying win, especially with McCarthy being extremely unhappy before and after the match. He has issues!

Norwich City 5-
0 Bournemouth
(Howson, Josh Murphy, Grabban, Hoolahan (2))

Another brilliant home win. Howson scored a truly special goal from outside the box, and Hoolahan continues his blistering start to the season.

Wes Hoolahan

In any normal month, the award could have gone to Lewis Grabban with his 6 goals or 19yo Josh Murphy with his 4 goals and 4 assists. However Wes Hoolahan has been unstoppable in the first five league games. 7 goals and 5 assists with an average rating of 8.86.

Traore and Wilson brought in to provide depth and quality to the bench. Stoke came in with a good offer for Johnson on deadline day. He doesn't play in my formation and therefore I let him go and replaced him with a player who has bags of potential Dele Alli.

Major Transfers elsewhere

Jordan Henderson Liverpool - Arsenal £17.25 million
Mattis Destro AS Roma - Liverpool £12 million
Munir Barcelona - Spurs £10.25 million

Hooper returns from injury
Grabban continues his great form
Still unbeaten

The Championship

Cardiff 0-2 Norwich City
(Martin, Alli)

Goal on his debut for Dele Alli along with a cracking freekick from Russell Martin, something I never expected to see!

Brentford 2-4 Norwich City
(Howson, Redmond, Grabban (2))

A topsy turvy affair, the result probably flatters us, we were simply better at finishing our chances.

Norwich City 5-
0 Birmingham City
(Grabban (2), Howson, Hooper (2))

I've been giving Hooper limited time off of the bench after his long lay off. Here I brought him on with 30mins to go and he repays the favour with a brace.

Blackpool 2-3 Norwich City
(Grabban (3))

We deserved absolutely nothing from this game, a really poor performance yet still managed to win thanks to Grabban's finishing ability.

Norwich City 3-3 Charlton Athletic
(Alli, Howson, Hooper)

Another poor performance from the boys, saved by Hooper.

Not totally frozen out, he's getting game time now and again especially as though games keep coming thick and fast. I've never managed in the Championship so its a steep learning curve!

Traore Breaks into the First XI
Unbeaten Run Broken
A gap forming in the league

The Championship

Norwich City 2-2 Rotherham United
(Traore, Alli)

Poor performances continue, lucky to draw here.

Fulham 0-2 Norwich City
(Bassong, Redmond)

A much better performance against a good side. Very pleased with this one.

Norwich City 2-1 Leeds United
(Grabban, Hoolahan)

Another decent result, Grabban scoring again after a little blip.

Sheff Weds 0-2 Norwich City
(Alli, Traore)

Traore has been excellent this month and has earned himself a place in my strongest XI.

Norwich City 1-2 Bolton Wanderers
(Alli)

A dreadful performance, the unbeaten run smashed.

Middlesborough 4-5 Norwich City
(Grabban (3), Josh Murphy, Hoolahan)

Top two in a proper battle. We got away with one here as Boro have goal disallowed in the last minute.

Nottingham Forest 1-0 Norwich City

We dominated in this game, just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net.

Norwich City 3-0 Brighton
(Hooper (2) Traore)

Much better finishing in this game, could have been more.

Norwich City 3-1 Reading
(Alli, Hoolahan, Hooper)

Very good performance and result as we head into the December games.

Excellent Start to 2015

The Championship

Bournemouth 1-6 Norwich City
(Murphy, Traore, Hoolahan, Grabban (3))

Excellent start to the year after a few poor performances previously

Norwich City 4-2 Cardiff City
(Alli, Grabban (3))

Grabban seems to have remembered where the goal is with two successive hattricks.

Norwich City 3-1 Brentford
(Button o.g, Alli, Murphy)

Grabban given the week off and our midfielders came through with the goals.

Birmingham City 0-5 Norwich City
(Murphy (2), Hoolahan, Grabban (2))

Another two for Grabban, excellent performance by young Josh Murphy.

Norwich City 3-1 Blackpool
(Hoolahan, Traore, Hooper)

We weren't as good as the scoreline suggests, only comfortable when Hooper scored late on.

Charlton 0-2 Norwich City
(Hooiveld, Redmond)

Something I never thought I'd see, Hooiveld scoring a brilliant free kick!

Norwich City 1-1 Wolves
(Hooper)

Struggled to a draw at home.

Watford 1-2 Norwich City
(Redmond, Traore)

A hard fought win at a really good team.

Blackburn 1-0 Norwich City

Couldn't find the breakthrough against a well organised Blackburn defense.

Norwich City 1-1 Ipswich Town
(Jacob Murphy)

Came back from behind, a draw is probably the correct result

The FA Cup

Norwich City 1-2 Watford
(Cameron)

Was very unhappy after this result!

Norwich City Strengthen

So going into the preseason, the Norwich board led by Darren Huckerby pinpointed key positions they needed to strengthen. Central Defense was certainly one position as was Right Back. They also pinpointed Attack as somewhere they needed depth.

View attachment 306347

As you can, Norwich were able to sell most of the deadwood that they failed to do last year. Coming in were a number of players;

View attachment 306346View attachment 306345

These two Norwegians have the potential to play key parts in the future of the club. Martin Odegaard is a real coup and has been promised that Huckerby will build his side around him. Fossum was spotted whilst Odegaard was scouted.

Reid and Richard bring much needed quality into the defense, and Dybala and Origi fill the gaps in attack. Darren Huckerby has admitted that Lucas Romero was an impulse buy. Huckerby is still on the look out for another right back and has £10 million still left in the budget.
