IMO pele is by far the most overrated player ever. People say he is the best ever without even thinking about it. I think he is behind zidane, brazilian ronaldo and ofcourse the best ever Diego maradona.

He played in the 60s when players were not exactly athletes.

For those who say "well he won 3 world cups" it does not take 1 player to make a brazilian national team.
Yeah He's Scored 1000+ Goals...in Brazilian ****** leagues!

Thats like Sending Shearer In His prime To the Blue Square Premier
Sending Messi To Afghanistan or Ronaldo to The Irish League!

they'd have a ****** field day...

geuss you never seen him play then, just basing you assumptions on the rubish you have heard others spouting?

You havent even made credible argument as to why hes the most overrated footballer yet

he is also far to arrogant for me . As this article proves

Brazilian footballing royalty Pele has downplayed the ability of Argentine superstar Lionel Messi by declaring that the Barcelona man has to “score 1000 goals” like he did until we can really start talking about his pedigree.

Reigning Ballon d’Or winner and World Footballer of the Year Messi has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 40 goals in 44 club games, and his four-goal haul against Arsenal in the Champions League last week has led some to compare the attacker with the likes of Diego Maradona and Pele.

But, the Brazilian has doubts over Messi’s ability and potential, and believes any comparisons should be put on hold until he scores 1000 goals in his career as he did during the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

"They are always trying to compare someone to Pele," he said to The Daily Mail.

"I always joke with my Argentine friends that they must first choose who is the best player from Argentina.

"Then, when one of them scores a thousand goals, then we can start talking.

But.......he said "I always joke..." It's friendly baneter for gods sake. Pele Brazil, Messi Argentina.

I will make my argument clear. He scored is goals in the 50s 60s in brazil. The league may have been stronger than today but no where near the quality of europe. He also is hailed for what he has won but that is not individual achievments that is a team achievment. For those who say just listen to what others say. In the recent sky documentry "footballs greatest" at the start of the show 4-5 ex footballers and managers would say how the player featured was the best ever and on another level to others

What gives you that assumption? Most of the brazil national team that dominated the world cups of that era were based in brazil.

Wrong, the league in the 60's was on par with europe for one thing, he scored over a thousand goals, thats his individual achievements. even the great brasilans admit that he was key to brazil, even though the team on the whole is lauded.

You may have heard of the real madrid team featuring di stefano and frenc puskas. it won 5 european cups in a row. They played at this time

Pele scored 1000 goals... therefore the league sucked

Real Madrid won 5 European Cups... therefore the European Leagues sucked.

The only thing you have done so far is demonstrate your own lack of knowledge about brazilian football to be quite frank, i suspect if there were any brazilians reading they'd be pretty insulted by your dismissal of it

God you're so desperate to prove your right on YOUR view, and everybody else is wrong on THEIR view. Why can't you accept that Pele IS and ALWAYS will be a footballing legend? Just leave the guy alone.

someone people just have to knock others, even without any real credible argument

yeh that real team was the best in europe, but how can you assmume it was the best team in the world? Santos was perhaps the best team in south america and may of been a better team than real, they didnt play in europe obviously you cant compare.

, he scored over a thousand goals, .

THIS IS MY EXACT ARGUMENT !! that is all people say. Did you see this footballing god ever play ? no. I have watched maradona zidane ronaldo play. They are on a different level. Maradona especially is undescribable. He single handedly won mexico 86 and also was the mastermind behind napoli double winning team of 86-87

sigh i have seen them all, funny how you dismiss the fact that pele was the guiding force of that great brazilian side, not to mention the single handed hero at club level.

Please read previous comments before posting such a rediculose post. I have never once doubted pele as a legend. he is . i just feel he is overrated and not on the same level as maradona
