Pes 6 on the xbox 360 was very poor, almost half a game compared to the PS2 version. Pro Evo 5 is my favorite version of pro evo, its when it hit its peak as a game,it is the definitive pro evo.

Cheers, i always wondered why some people thought PES6 was the best one. I watched some vids on youtube (persumeably the ps2 version) and it looked quality. £4 off ebay, not to shabby!

Here is The Guardian's review of PES 2010,the final code.

Maybe it was the continued innovation of the online play, particularly the 10vs10, or the vastly improved feel of the action. Or perhaps it was the dubious pleasure in playing as Southampton - but FIFA 10 has certainly seduced me recently. And as a total package FIFA 10 is hard to beat. But after a weekend playing PES 2010 it has quickly became obvious that on the pitch – ultimately where it matters most, of course – PES simply plays the more satisfying and entertaining game of football.

The caveat here is that I haven't played online yet. Online play isn't live yet and probably won't be until the week of launch. For me this is crucial. Last year's appallingly convoluted offering – want to play 2vs2 with a friend on the same team? Good luck – really killed the game for me. Have Konami fixed it this year? We'll find out very soon. But if it is the same menu-ridden and laggy mess of last year then FIFA's siren call will become too much.
But on the pitch things are looking very very good indeed. Regular players will know how satisfying PES feels and 2010 is as blissfully expressive as ever. Aerial through balls are a particular delight but first time passes and accurately weighted crosses are all a joy. Le Tissier style 40-yard cross field passes are possible too and the game encourages and rewards you to try out new moves.

The 360 degree control – less heavily marketed here than it is with FIFA but a first for the series – makes a difference too. Initial discomfort soon gives way to a greater feel on the pitch, with plenty of room to improvise as you create space for a cross or shot.

The action feels slightly slower than 2009 but is still much faster than FIFA. A typical PES game is more akin to the recent 4-3 Manchester derby than the continentally paced FIFA. Yes, this is almost a complete reversal of historical trends. But FIFA 2001 – or whenever – goalfests were never this entertaining.
The game feels slightly easier though. I played on regular settings and won the Champions League easily – an 8-0 aggregate win over Man United was a highlight – by using simple tactics of through-balls and double-tap crosses. Whether this is ease is intentional – or maybe I'm better than I thought? - remains to be seen but regular players would be better off starting on at least professional level.

So what else? Well finally – finally! – Konami seems to have got the in-game presentation right. Licensed music and well designed and legible menu screens? Yup, it's a world away from PES of the past. The Champions League licence is central to the game and the menus give you all the encouragement you need to get started on your campaign. Maybe next year we'll get the Johnstones Paint Trophy too? Another nice touch is the muted celebrations from the crowd when you score away from home. The crowd noise generally seems more realistic too – I'm sure they cheered when I cleared a header off the line.
Then there is the Community mode, a new addition to the series. It is essentially a long term record of your results against friends. Great. But currently it is offline only and pointless for anyone old enough to live away from their mates.

So, 48 hours in and I'm thoroughly enjoying PES 2010. Yes, I'm crossing fingers that online is finally sorted, but when it comes to the basic on-pitch action there looks to be a clear winner. I ended my FIFA 10 review by saying PES had it all to do. Well, after a weekend with PES 2010 I'm very confident it has succeeded. Sorry to have doubted you old friend.

Great News. The record vrs friends thing sounds pretty swish also

Sounds like a review written by a PES Fanboy, no surprises it won.

well some one, who like many, enjoyed ISS and pro evo for many years back in the day

pro evo is certainly kingly i love the demo despite it's faults, graphics are glorious and plays superbly
i just hate the criticism it's too fast, it's only 10 minute matches, it shouldn't play at the exact pace of a match, besides the fact i'd say it's thrilling loads of games play like the manchester derby
and pro evo just has that feel of watching a real match, like being 1-0 up underthe cosh for the rest of the game then maybe sneaking a winner or a dramatic late equaliser
man i can't wait for the full glorious release, hopefully Fletcher's stats have been corrected to represent his match winning abilities

Thats very cynical Sean :(

Here is Gamespot UK's Review.

Although it has long been a favourite with football fans around the world, Pro Evolution Soccer is caught on the back foot this year. FIFA has made steady progress in recent years by improving its presentation and gameplay while adding a string of new modes. PES has also received several changes over the past few years in the form of the Champions League, as well as the introduction of its own individual player and online multiplayer modes. Despite these changes, the game hasn't improved much since PES 2007, but thanks to a number of major changes in this year's game, PES could finally be back on winning form. We took a look at the game at the PES League European Finals to find out more.

The first thing that grabbed our attention was how much effort Konami has put into the game engine this year. Players are instantly recognisable, which is a huge improvement on PES 2009, where some players didn't look anything like their real-world counterparts. Not only do the animations look more fluid, but replays and close-ups reveal an impressive amount of detail, with such minute details as arm hair and sweat revealed when viewed closely. Despite improved models, though, characters could do with more animated facial expressions, and they had a tendency to look a little bit dead-eyed in replays.

The more important thing to note about PES 2010 is the gameplay. The game is returning to its simulation roots this year, and from our time with the game, it felt easier to create space and get the ball through poor defensive lines, which should offer more challenge when playing defensively. While we were previously told that Konami was not implementing 360-degree control this year, the developer has done a backflip and taken a leaf out of the FIFA 10 book to add the new analog control scheme. While seasoned fans may opt to stick to the tried-and-tested D pad option, we felt that 360-degree control was marginally more responsive and well worth consideration as a primary control scheme.

Off the pitch, the big feature this year is the implementation of a new tactics system, which lets you adjust attacking and defending strategies on the fly with 100 different levels of control. If your team is one point down in the closing stages of a match, for instance, you may find that maxing out your attacking tactics for one big push could make the difference between a draw and a loss.

We also got to see this year's Champions League mode, although it's unfortunately still missing some team licences, such as Arsenal. Despite qualifying for the competition, the team is again dubbed "North London" this year, and it wasn't playable in the mode. Notwithstanding some glaring omissions, Champions League looks like it will appeal to fans of the competition, which always offers its fair share of surprises.

PES 2010 sees tweaks to other parts of the game too. Penalties return to a side-on view, rather than the front-on view seen in last year's game. We've also been told that the Master League mode has received some substantial changes, but we'll have to wait for final code before we can see them. Pro Evolution 2010 will be out on October 23 in Europe and November 3 in the US.

I've talked to a few foreign exchange students from Spain who are attending my college. They came up for one of my parties, and they saw my PES box beside the TV and they all commented on it. They said (even the hot girl) that pes was much better than Fifa....

take it for what it's worth.

You'll never get an unbiased review of FIFA or PES because everyone has one they prefer. If you have a review by someone who doesn't play football video games he/she wouldn't be reliable. I haven't played PES but watching the videos there is nothing that impresses me.

I do agree with you JP, PES5 was indeed the best and 6 was way better on PS2. I'm still holding hope of PES one day winning me over like it did after FIFA:RTWC 98 but I'm happy with FIFA this year.

FIFA RTWC98,now that takes me back.I remember it well, the soundtrack was Blur's song 2 i believe? it was a pretty good game FIFA 98,i remember i really enjoyed playing the African qualifying stages.

You're correct. It was the best football game around at the time. There was another Japanese game that was like PES as well on the PS2, wish I could find it again. It was brilliant for its time.

Edit* Scratch that, found it. Football Kingdom.

2004 I think, I can't find anything concrete but all articles about it are from 2004. I wish I had known of it then, looks like it would of been brilliant at the time.

WOW! that game looks brilliant fun,it loos like Pro Evo but it plays different.I know Konami ended up making 2 different football games that came from the original ISS.Two different Konami studio's made separate games.I think Konami Tokyo made the Evolution series and a more simulation type game and Konami Japan stuck with the more "arcady" ISS.
