seems like FM14 is about playing the game the way it wants you to, and not the other way round.
Certain tactics and strategies are penalized against other styles of play. For E.G standing off and staying on feet defending will always lose out to hard tackling as players (both mine and the AI) can always slide in hard from behind and never rarely give away a penalty or get carded. its always"an excellent tackle" for the defender.

It is incredibly hard to get a clean/sheet or 0-0 draws as the ME always seem to give 1 side (Me or the AI a goal). and there is really little player intelligence or individual moments of brilliance seen on the pitch. the ME seems to be coded in a way where if it reads your tactic as being wrong generally, your players will not be able to execute simple passes/ especially GKs kicking the ball straight out of the field despite being under no pressure.

I am currently attempting to play a very defensive strategy, and again and again, at least 1 of my defenders keeps making mistakes allowing the AI to score. seems like the only way to play is to keep outscoring opponents as you will rarely be able to keep aclean sheet. BTW, why cant I attach screenshots?

I think this is bang on. My main frustration is that EVRYTHING in this is pre-programmed, there's no control you have over things. Basically, you'll spend hrs on creating tactics and then everything go's to pot like absolute clockwork. The fun in previous games has been that YOU control your fortune and YOU had the freedom to create whatever you wanted. FB's/WB's frustrate the f**k out of me on this years edition. Just seem pre-programmed to go narrow and leave SO much space on the wings, or just leave players free in the box who then score. You try counter this with man marking wingers and this, of course, means wingers skin your FB with an easy through ball played into the gap. You watch most good professional FB's/WB's and they'll fill that hole between CB and the opp winger. This means they plug up the space for the through ball but are still close enough to close down the winger if passed to. PLEASE let US control our game next time!!!

Bring back sliders!!! Bring back control!!! BRING BACK THE FUN!!!!

Honestly, what are you meant to do if CCC's are continuously missed. Important chances as well.

There's nothing you can do to make your strikers convert these chances. People say a tactic is all about being defensively solid and creating chances. You as the Human can create the chance, but the strikers on the field continuously miss these chances that are supposedly (and look on the screen) clear cut.

Not sure if that was a rhetorical question, but what I do if I have a striker missing sitters in a game, is sub him. My team don't usually miss those chances, so if my striker has an off day, I get someone else on. It usually works.

Rarely works in my experience. Strikers just seem to be really underpowered in this game, they can't finish to save their life. So frustrating to watch my team dominate the match in terms of possession and chances and still fail to win (or even lose) because the strikers throw away chance after chance. I've tried several different tactics, formations and teams but in the vast majority of my saves, my strikers score way less than my attacking midfielders no matter how good their attributes are.

On my OM save I've had 5 strikers, all of them with national team experience (where they have no problem scoring). And they all averaged at about 6.4-6.5 in the last five matches. Doesn't matter if you play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3, if you leave your striker for the whole match or if you sub the position twice, change position or role, they won't care.

The whole game went to **** after the 14.3 patch. Back in October there were some problems with the game, like FBs doing **** all or the goalies making saves that made you laugh with your belly. But the game made sense, and you could still fix the defenders with CFB. If you protected your backs you rarely scored, but you've had a good chance of getting away with a clean sheet. If you went more on the attack you've risked a shootout, but if you've had world class up front you could afford it. Since the "ME tweaks" in .3 patch the game has become artificially hard towards the player. I have no problem being challenged by the game, but the current **** is like playing with 10 or 9 guys on the pitch, that's how useless the strikers are. I'd like to go back to the old version, but hey, Steam. Maybe that's an idea for a microtransaction in 2015? Revert back to the version of the game which makes more sense than the current one?

So, Balotelli just went 0-for-9 in my game against Parma. That's Balotelli - he of the 18 finishing and 17 composure - took 9 shots, 8 from inside the box, 3 clear cut chances and 2 half chances, zero goals.

Looking forward to the usual suspects coming in and telling me it's my tactics.

My defender (17 composure, 17 decisions, 13 passing) decides to chip the ball to the oppositions striker, despite having 6 better options and despite my team instruction for 'shorter passing'

The striker runs though and my left back fouls him. Down to ten men after 5 minutes.

Definitely my tactics. This is the worst FM game of all time. I doubt they will be getting any money off of me for the next game.

I've been finding FM so tedious of late. I can't seem to find a tactic or build my own philosophy. it's so restrictive, i try to create tactics based on high pressing and fast transition from defence to attack but it never works, and i just concede from balls over the top or corners. I'll have a string of so many chances and won't score then the opposition get a chance and score, its so annoying! I can't seem to play with teams with low budgets or just weak squads. I don't understand, Man city spend £121m in real life, but you only get a 40mil budget with them. I'm not so fussed about budgets, but i don't get how your meant to improve your squad with a budget of 2 or 3mil. How am i meant to find decent cheap players??? And also what i hate with lower teams is that i struggle so hard to decide which players suit the roles in my tactic.

6 CCC's I created against the Mighty Chelsea in my game, jeez.

I felt like I got my tactics spot on this game. I knew how I wanted to play (Defensive, Rigid & Narrow with a Much Higher Tempo mixed with Direct Football), and I feel like I implemented it perfectly. Evident by the amount of CCC's I created against the Mighty Chelsea.

Again, very annoying.

Huh? Why are you getting defensive? The question is about chances converted and not goals per game. I was merely asking for you to show that stat and wasn't criticising anything about your tactic or performances. The point is that you might have had 5 shots on average for every goal or 100 shots on average for every goal. Wasn't meaning to cause offence but goals per game doesn't answer the shots to goal ratio

In fairness, 32% is a pretty **** good percentage for a young player...would be interesting to see though how much that improves as his stats improve. Nice to keep an eye on

Not getting defensive at all. Apologies if it seemed that way. The claim was that strikers are ****. Them scoring as many goals as they do/did for me, proved (to me anyway) that they're not ****. I've given my goals/shot ratio now and I have no problem providing any other info.

I've started a separate thread about it, so we can continue it there and keep this for the frustrated people.

So we're drawing 2-2 at Everton. We're absolutely battering them before midway through the 2nd half Huddlestone sticks our striker on a stretcher and gets sent off. Everton are down to ten men. Their midfield now only has 1 CM in it. There's a big gaping hole in the very same position that we're dominating.

Surely we should go on and win this? Nah, despite making NO changes to the team shape, Everton turn into Barcelona 09 and destroy me, winning 4-2. Seriously, how on earth does this make sense? I get them being harder to play with with ten men, but they should start playing like they have 12, should they?

Absolutely brilliant game this. Well done SI.

Oh I do love when the opposition go down to ten men, doesn't matter if they get sent off in the 5th minute, 10th minute or 15th get zero highlights the whole game, and the only highlights that are shown are the opposition passing around like their Barcelona. But of course if I go down to ten men it's a fecking onslaught..
