To be fair you've done the same for me mate. Read quite a bit of the past posts and have gone from "worst game ever" to enjoying my save more than any other.

Also helps that an hour ago I found out what the tempo settings mean. For the past 6 years of playing FM I thought the tempo settings meant whether you wanted your players to sprint or not!


EDIT: Question for anyone, does 'pass ball into space' contradict 'retain possession'? Been trying to work out whether I would be better of removing pass into space or not.

FWIW, the team and player instructions all have tooltip descriptions that pop up when you hover your mouse over the instruction. Whether the description is clear enough and whether you'll understand it is a different matter!

Retain possession plus pass into space means they will seek to hold onto the ball, unless they can see opportunities to play through balls

It's more important to think about how you want your team to play, and the kind of roles you are giving out, and the players you have.

I know, there's shoot less and work ball into box. But more often than not (I'd just about say that 80%+ of the time they take the shot instead of looking for the clear open player),they will still just take a low % low angled shot. This is not made up. This happens. Even with the "Shoot Less" and "Work ball into box" instructions.

*DISCLAIMER* I am by no means alluding that clear shot = goal 100% of the time; it's just that it's quite frustrating even though that you have instructed your players to look and seek out those types of opportunities (which is the aim of the game I believe) that they continue to not do so.

Note that I like to pay with bigger teams, and players with high decisions etc.

It's more important to think about how you want your team to play, and the kind of roles you are giving out, and the players you have.

Finding out how what the tempo settings actually mean has got things going well. I had 1 point from 5 games in my second season at Spurs but since then I've drawn 2 games and won 5 and have got my first set of hard games out the way. Still have a lot of catching up to do to make sure my jobs completley safe but so far so good.

Oh, and my strikers have FINALLY started scoring.

It's worth looking into your players preferred moves and seeing if they have any preferred way of finishing. I've found that players with high composure and finishing will score more one on ones if you train them the preferred move of 'placing shots' but if they lack high enough composure it's probably best to train them to blast shots otherwise their shots are quite tame. Without composure and them placing shots they seem to do the low angled shots your talking about without being able to get it in the goal.

Also, I read that if a striker has high agility it's worth training them to round the keeper. Can't say I've tried that myself yet mind.

Didnt understand you well, but you complain about too many long shots by your players?

Well, i'm playing one tactic from this site, and belive me, my players dont take long shots at al. Even they are on 16m they dont shots, always look for pass in box. I have maybe 1 long shots per match, sometimes none.

It's not about long shots. See my example below, for what I mean:

With the image above, the green rectangle represents the goal/6yard penalty area, the red circle is the opposition goalie, the brown circles are the opposition defenders. The red circles are my players (the one with the orange star is the player with the ball).

What I mean is, often the AI will take the shot even though there is a clear man advantage. Why is this????

That's a good tip for training one on ones.

But my point is (as above) is that what if I don't want them to take the one on one (if there are 2 or more players around/when there's a man advantage) but I want them to pass to the open shot.

If its the type of angled shot i think, there isnt much you can do about it in FM14, its a known weakness in the ME that's being worked on as a priority for FM15

Why are my defenders incapable of defending? If a long ball goes over you head you don't stop and watch it go past you to the striker you gibbon.

Injuries seriously have made my Arsenal save unplayable.

Natxo Monreal out for 7-8 months
Santi Cazorla out for 3 weeks
Jack Wilshere out for 3 months, plays one game injuried for another 2 months
Olivier Giroud out for 12 days, then out for another 10 days with a gashed leg (twice)
Rodrigo out for 3 weeks, two months later out for 2 months
Julian Draxler out for 10 days.

All those key players injured at the same time in the demanding month of December. WTF

update:

Real Madrid won the title with 110 points, they won 36 games and 2 draws (1 against me, 1 against real betis (very suprising))
And on top of that they have not lost since january the year before, so 53 matches and counting... (only ligamatches)

Positive point, won the cup against them with penalties (1-1 regular time, and 8-7 in penalties)

i don't know if it is a bug or is actually written into the game, but every time i sign a new contract with any club, the players morale drops and their performances get considerably worse.

started a brand new save a few days ago, using LFCMarshalls transfer update, and chose Manchester United. Went unbeaten all the way to November/December when the board offered me a new contract. I accepted, and the players morale went from Superb to Fairly Good...

And I dont understand how I can go from beating Chelsea 3-0 , to losing to Leicester and Hull 3-0 back to back! I have tried everything to stop it from happening. The first half finished 0-0 and then everything goes downhill in the second half... I have tried changing tactics, making substitutions, even resting players so they're fit for the games, but nothing seems to work
