PREMIER LEAGUE 2012/2013 FLOPS

Podolski, Marko Marin, Adrian Mariappa and Gylfi Sigurdsson for me.

Podolski didn't perform well at Bayern, although I have to concede he is very impressive for Germany. Marin isn't anything special, just seems to be a squad player Chelsea picked up at a reasonable price; it's a good deal, but don't expect him to set the Premier League alight! He'll probably just play a few games, perform to a decent standard, and then leave, a la Deco.

Mariappa isn't anywhere near Prem standard, more suited to the Championship; or even League 1! And Gylfi is too selfish for my liking, yes he's a good player, but he won't really fit in at Spurs either! Even if Modric leaves (which is getting likelier by the day), I still don't think he'll fit in with the likes of Bale, Lennon and Adebayor. However, that's just my opinion, and I'd like to see him prove me wrong!

There's not been that many big name transfers yet this summer, but as clubs make more signings, there'll be a lot more potential flops to pick out!

Where did you get that from? Deary me

1) Mapps only good enough for league 1.. He got Watfords player of the year last season and Newcastle, Wigan and us have wanted him in the last year. OK.

2) Gylfi too selfish? He got our most assists 3 seasons ago aswell as our top goalscorer.

It's a "shame" i can't put any Swindon players on here but:

Jay Rodriguez, Maiga & Yacob.

I think Eden Hazard is going to struggle in the PL

eden hazard,vertongnen and mariappa

Podolski and Hazard i dont think will live up to expectations, espeically Hazard considering how highly he rates himself

I am going to go Podolski, Hazard and Holman.

Podolski, as much as I have a man crush on him, has proven that he doesn't like sitting on a bench at Bayern, will probably work himself up, then fail to hit the back of the net. Hazard is way to overrated, especially by himself. And Holman, well... he is one of only 2 Australian Internationals that I have seen play, that I have disliked from the start (The other being David Carney, since I know how much you all wanted to know.).

I think Eden Hazard is going to struggle in the PL

I know it's very early days and i could be setting myself up for a massive fall but i really don't think i will be do you lol.

He has looked very very good so far, dont mind admitting im wrong,

early days but the signs are definitely there for a world class player.

Indeed. Very unselfish play, thus far, and quite classy on the ball, except for that oops moment in the Community Shield. I am quite happy eat my own words, and admit that I got Hazard well and truely wrong. Fingers crossed he can maintain this form all season for you guys.

Very disappointed by Federici's return to the Prem, 2 stuff ups in 2 games T_T **** Aussie.

Let us all calm down people. If every player kept the form of their first two Prem games, Adrian Mutu would've been world player of the year in 2003 and Mladen Petric would currently be battling it out with Michu for the Golden Boot. Hazard's been very good in his opening two matches, but Chelsea shelled out £32 million for him, so frankly he's performing at the level you'd expect given his transfer fee.

Flops, flops... well, I consider the success of a transfer to be directly linked to the fee paid. It's exactly why I consider David Moyes such a brilliant transfer market operator: he consistently gets great players for peanuts. Thus, unless they're absolutely horrible, it's far harder for free transfers like Villa's Brett Holman or the aforementioned Petric to be classed a flop in my eyes.

With that in mind, I've narrowed my list of likely flops down to Olivier Giroud, Fabio Borini, Jack Rodwell and - providing it goes through - Matt Jarvis. All of them are risky picks, and I reckon they'll either fail or all succeed brilliantly.

Giroud and Borini are similar in that I don't think they'll fail due to their individual talents, rather that the systems of the clubs they're at will misuse them completely. Arsenal have tried the big man option before with Marouane Chamakh, and whilst Giroud is more than just a big lump, his primary purpose is to offer something different. Borini, on the other hand, isn't a target man, and I think he will suffer purely because Luis Suarez is Liverpool's focal point of attack by far. By using Suarez as an outlet, Borini naturally gets a little marginalised when played on the wing - as he has been recently - and when he isn't giving his side goals, he isn't giving too much at all.

Jack Rodwell, though, is another case entirely. His progress has stalled majorly, and you always have the kind of feeling he'll break down with another injury every time he gets near the ball. As for Jarvis, his transfer fee is just ridiculous.

Podolski. Not uncommon for Germans to have adaptability problems, and than Podolski had adaptability problems even while still in Bundesliga so, yeah. Overall his transfer seems like big gamble for that fee.

Steven ******* Fletcher if it goes through. With the fees being thrown around I'd class him as a flop unless he bangs some 15 goals this season.

How is Jarvis' transfer ridiculous? £7m + £3m add-ons, seems pretty fair for me. He's English, years of PL experiance, only 26, and has been one of Wolves best players for at least the last 3 seasons.

I think Liverpool were heavily linked with him last year, and I know who I'd rather have out of him and Downing! Could have saved ourselves £10m, too.

What's wrong with Steven Fletcher? They paid like £12m inc. bonuses, you won't find many proven PL target men for that price.

Jarvis has been a decent player for Wolves it's true, but they've not only just been relegated, they went down with nary a fight. Jarvis was okay, but not the kind of 'best player in a bad team' that outshines the rest of his colleagues, like N'Zogbia and Moses for Wigan over the past few years, for example. My quarrel isn't with Jarvis' talent, though, rather the price tag for that talent. £10 million for a pretty standard one-dimensional English winger from the Championship? Bit bonkers to me.

Downing came off the back of one of his best seasons ever. He, unlike Jarvis, looked too good to play in the poor team that he was in, carrying them at times. Hindsight is 20/20.

If you compare it to your buys in recent times of course it lookes like a ****** bargain, but 15m (which is the fee according to Sky) is a fuckload of money for someone like Fletcher. He's not bad but he's worth half of that.

Athe~ Ah you are hilarious. And, it was £12m with £2m add-ons. TBF, Sunderland did overpay a tad, but I don't think he'll be a flop.. Especially when you consider he already has 3 years PL experience.

The season before last Jarvis was Wolves' player of the year and won an England cap.. He was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool too, but we went for Downing.. Last year he scored 8 goals and

N'Zogbia at Wigan yes? Not Villa, he wasn't that player this year. Also, as for Moses, most of his value comes from his age, he did well last year but didn't carry Wigan at all, a lot of players started to perform such as Maloney, Gomez etc. But at 21 Moses did very well, so obviously his fee would be much higher than somebody who is 26.

Meh, I don't care if people disagree but for an up front fee of £7.5m, I think that's a good deal.. Although, if he wasn't English you'd probably have to knock off 2 or 3 million.

Sunderland could have stumped up another £7m and got RVP. ;)
