Preston North End - The English De Toekomst

Plans are in place to expand Deepdale to a 34,000 capacity as we look to the future and the success the manager will bring. With the stadium being enlarged by over 10,000 seats it means that it will take 14 months to complete and will not be safe for spectators to watch games in. Following that we made an executive decision with the board to groundshare with Blackburn Rovers for the upcoming season.

Preston North End are delighted to announce the signing of England international Wayne Rooney on a three year deal after the striker left Manchester United at the end of last season.

Wayne has a phenomenal record at international level with 67 goals in 121 caps and has been a big name in English football since he broke through at Everton as a teenager. He didn't feature a lot for Manchester United last season and made the decision to not extend his contract to make him a free agent. Rooney spoke to PNETV shortly after the confirmation of his move.

"I'm delighted to join a club like Preston North End as they are one of the clubs on the rise under the control of Michael Henson. Once I spoke to him I knew this was the place for me to be as he has big plans for the future and it allows me to continue playing at the highest level."

"I may be on the wrong side of 30 but I still have a lot to offer and I can't wait to show what I can do as I didn't get a chance last season. I'll be 35 when my initial contract expires so I'll make a decision then if I want to go into coaching and Michael has promised me that he'd take me on as a coach if I go down that route."

Below is the moment we broke the news on our official Twitter feed.

Manager Michael Henson also spoke to PNETV after the deal was confirmed: "It's a great move for the club as Wayne is a big name in the footballing world and will add plenty of experience to the squad as well as bringing in a lot of shirt sales."

"Wayne has been a proven goalscorer at this level so he'll be tutoring some of our younger players to pass on his knowledge and who knows, we might be able to find the next Wayne Rooney whilst he is on our books."

Henson also confirmed that PNE are in for Ross Barkley after the 24 year old midfielder left Everton a month ago.

"Ross Barkley is another player we have our eye on. Both him and Wayne were on trial during pre-season but unfortunately Ross got injured during the game against Bamber Bridge and was ruled out for three months. Hopefully he'll fully recover and we can bring him in in January."

You can now buy the new home shirt from the club shop with Rooney on the back ahead of the big kick off against Aston Villa.

Summer Transfer Window Update

Transfers

View attachment 358169

We did our business nice and early with seven signings coming in on the first day of the summer transfer window so we only made three other signings. As already announced, Wayne Rooney joined on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season and will be a key player for us. Two young players joined the club as well as Daniel Richter moved from Viktoria Plzen for £1.5m and Nico Giacobino joined from Grasshoppers for £800k.

Our investment in the youth team paid off this transfer window as we made a £20m profit on Marco Palmitessa when he moved to Lokomotiv. Below is a screenshot of when he came to the club and when he left.

For the first time during my spell with the club, we won our opening game of the season! It was a pleasing month as we won all of our games and progressed through to the Group Stage of the Europa League. We scored two goals in each game, just a shame we conceded late on in the Arsenal Kyiv game otherwise we wouldn't have conceded.

We've had a fantastic time in the Premier League and everything is going right for us at the moment and currently sit 2nd in the league with 2 games in hand. Our younger players have really stepped up their game this season and are on fire especially Zois Pappas. We've conceded the least amount of goals in the league which is very pleasing and is mainly down to the performances of Ibrahima Sy.

We've finally achieved the same success as the first season by making it to the Capital One Cup semi-finals where we will face Everton. Only young players have played in the competition and they have been fantastic so far, Sam Burton the standout player after his hat trick against Manchester United and is the competitions top goalscorer.

A great campaign so far as we won all six group games and qualified for the next round with a game to spare. The knockout round draws are as follows:

Winter Transfer Window Update

Transfers

One player was brought in during the Winter Transfer Window as Amir Kujevic joined for a small fee from his native Sweden. Although we have two young right backs progressing through the youth system, I feel he'll be a good player by loaning him out and developing him that way.

We also agreed a deal to sign a player on a free at the end of the season with Jose Cantero joining from Grasshoppers on the 1st July. He may not be able to become homegrown at the club but I'm hoping he'll have one good season and then be sold for £15m+.

Fabio Goncalves was subject to two bids from AS Monaco and Schalke but they were quickly rejected as he's not for sale, not yet anyway.

January was a pleasing month for us as we reach the summit of the Premier League with two games in hand over 2nd place Liverpool. We only lost once in the opening month of the new year and it was a disappointing defeat against Norwich. We reached the Capital One Cup final after beating Everton over two legs and will meet Southampton at Wembley.

Playing through to the next update now and for some reason all my players wages have risen massively. Rooney has gone from 49k to 76k and so on.

Anyone know why this is?

do thay have anything in there contracts about wage rises?

Apologies for the lack of updates recently, been out in Tenerife covering Bury's warm weather training camp. Hopefully have an update or two our later!

Wow, what a fantastic season! I was aiming for a top four finish but to win the league is simply incredible. It was the first Premier League title since back in 1890 when PNE finished top ahead of Everton in 2nd place. The fact that we conceded so little goals is probably one of the key factors behind the success and it would have been the lowest in the division had we not have let in 6 against Spurs! Another amazing factor in this success is that we have the lowest Salary Per Annum in the league, almost £120m less than the highest!

I won my first domestic cup as we beat Southampton 2-0 in the final at Wembley. It's my first domestic cup trophy after the disappointment of losing to Brentford in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final in my first season in charge. I used a lot of younger players in the competition and they did well so will feature again next year.

Unlike the FA Cup, it was the reverse of the last time we made it as we won the competition for the first time in our history with a 3-0 win over Manchester City in the final. It was a great year in the Europa League as we won every single game from the start of our campaign in the Play-Off.
