I am pleased to have been appointed as the new manager of Real Oviedo.

View attachment 383507

Oviedo are Spanish team who currently play in Group 1 of the Segunda B, the third tier of Spanish football. The club have spent the majority of their history playing in the top two divisions in Spain but have struggled in recent years. After dropping down to the Tercera Divison, Oviedo encountered severe financial difficulty and nearly folded as a club. More recently, Oviedo have been thrown into the wider spotlight after an online campaign to save the club from bankruptcy. The campaign was hugely successful and resulted in the world's richest man, Carlos Slim, investing large sums to put Oviedo back on the right track. The hard work on the pitch begins now, to get Real Oviedo back to La Liga where they belong.

View attachment 383506

Real Oviedo play their home matches at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere. It's a huge stadium for a club playing in Segunda B1 and represents the better times of the past. Recently the stadium has been half full at best but I'm sure it would return to full capacity were the club to be playing at a higher level. Let's hope we can make it happen!

Squad Overview

Goalkeepers

View attachment 383495

Vetern Orlando Quintana will be our first choice this season with 19-year-old Adan as back-up.

Defence

View attachment 383494

We're fairly well covered at the back with a number of players able to cover for different positions. Javi Hernandez and Jose Pardo will be our main centre-back pairing with David Fernandez and loanee Sergio Diaz in the full-back positions.

Midfield

View attachment 383493

Another area with suitable cover for all positions. Hector Simon, superb in pre-season, will play alongside the more defensive minded Jon Erice. Ivan Rubio and Salva are excellent cover for these positions. Further forward we have a number of players to fill the three attacking positions.

Attack

View attachment 383492

Real Oviedo legend and club captain Diego Cervero will be the spearhead of our attack. Alain Arroyo has proven in pre-season to be a very able back-up option.

Season Preview

The club is expected to challenge at the top end of the table. The board, of course, want us to win the league and compete in the promotion play-offs at the end of the season. I've been very impressed with the players in pre-season and feel we can at least mount a challenge. It's a big league and a long season so we're going to have to be consistent to achieve what is expected of us.

Bad news as we approach the start of the season. Sergio Garcia has been ruled out for up to 3 months, Xavier Annunziata will miss the next 4 weeks and Josep Sene will miss the first game.

September Review

After an excellent start our performances have dropped dramatically. We must improve immediately if we are to stand any chance of succeeding in our pre-season targets.

Keep posting mate, fantastic club.

Pay attention to your player's contracts. I finished 1st season with Oviedo in FM 14 (won the league and league cup) and in the next season more than a dozen of my players left the club because their contracts expired (I couldn't renew them because they wanted ridiculously high wages). Also i got like 40k transfer budget from my generous board so I was able to buy like 2 or 3 players (ofc free transfers only). So you have to handle with it somehow. Good luck!

BTW Nestor Susaeta, Eneko and Arroyo were beasting when i played.

Cheers mate yeah I've noticed that too. Most want double what they're earning now! It's definitely something to keep an eye on.

October Review

A better month but we still have much to do. I thought i'd lost my job after the home defeat to Marino. The board have stuck with me but have made it perfectly clear that I'm not doing anywhere near as well as expected. If we can keep plugging away and getting the results we just be able to work our way up the table.

November Review

Slow but steady progression in the league this month. We currently sit in eighth place but are still six points off the play-offs. The undoubted highlight of the month was the astonishing 6-0 home win over Sporting B. It's a little reminder of what we can do at our best.

December Review

A decent month for us. We head into the short Christmas break in sixth place and only five points behind the leaders, Ferrol. The Valencia cup games were just madness to be involved in. We were always likely to lose the tie but to score seven goals against them and draw at their place was just brilliant. My job still isn't properly safe and we must continue working our way up the table for the board to be satisfied. We're improving though so that's encouraging.

January Review

It's all about how we respond to the disappointing defeat at home to Burgos. Our two games previous were excellent performances and we need to put the defeat behind us. We are in a healthy position in the league, with a game in hand on the teams above us. Diego Cervero became Oviedo's all time leading goalscorer in the league with his two goals against Burgos, cementing his name as a club legend.

February Review

An excellent month culminating in the home win against the top of the league side, Ferrol. We've opened up a four point gap on Burgos below us and have a game in hand on Racing and Ferrol at the top. We have eleven games left to keep up this level of performance and hopefully secure a play-off spot.

March Review

An awful end to the month with three consecutive defeats. We now face a real fight to retain our play-off spot. Nine points behind Ferrol and Racing seems too much to overcome with only six games remaining. We face Cultural Leonesa at home at the beginning of April with a chance to extend our lead.

A decent month following our three consecutive defeats in March. Four points will now secure us a play-off spot. We haven't exactly been firing on all cylinders but two wins would really help with the confidence of the team.

May Review

We secure a play-off spot with an impressive win against Aviles but I am disappointed with the defeat to Noja. We must put that game behind us now as we move onto the play-offs. Due to our final league position, we will need to overcome three ties to earn promotion. All games are two legs.

Could you post a screenie of this young lad from the youth intake? I also got one real star during my intake. What tactic do you use?

End of Season Review

Where do I start!? Back in October/November I was very close to losing my job as manager and a successful season for myself would have been to end the season still at the club. To win promotion is a fantastic achievement and something I am very proud of. The players have responded remarkably to the setbacks we have faced this year. The character of the players is demonstrated perfectly in our final two play-off rounds when we conceded first at home and fought back to win both games comfortably. Our targets at the very start of the season were to at least compete in the play-offs, to go beyond that is brilliant. There won't be too much change this summer, the squad have played well this year and deserve to give it a go in Liga Adelante.

View attachment 380728

Player of the Season

Diego Cervero

He's been a goal machine this season with 38 scored along with 14 assists in all competitions. His personal highlight must be the hat-trick at home to Valencia. He leads the team superbly and will be key to any success next season.

Nestor Susaeta

23 goals and 19 assists in all competitions. If it wasn't for Diego then Nestor would have taken this award by some distance. Has been magnificent on the right wing and, as well as Diego, will be key to success next year.

Hector Ladero

The centre-back was brought in for cover in this area but soon made it his own. Has been outstanding in partnership with Jose Pardo and was our joint-third highest goalscorer with 8.

I'm curious how you gonna handle with the contracts thing. That El Amrani boy looks decent enough to play some matches in Adelante! Good luck! Love Oviedo for Carlos Tartiere, they should be in Primera with such a stadium.
