The final Review
View attachment 163414
So here they are, the results which sealed my fate. Given the upturn in form, I do feel it's a bit harsh to be dismissed because of the fixture congestion but I understand the board have the club's interests at heart.

I at least leave them with a bright young squad - especially Yomby and Sané, with Yomby joint top scorer in the league.

If you owned a club who had qualified for Europe for 7 successive seasons, and they were down in 17th at the end of a calendar year then you'd probably want to sack the manager wouldn't you?

BREAKING: Manchester United sack Pep Guardiola
View attachment 163380
Manchester United have today announced the termination of Josep Guardiola's contract. Guardiola, who won the league and FA Cup double in his first full season, has struggled to get Manchester United performing well this season and they face a fight to get into Europe based on their current position of 7th.

For the most part, fans had been patient with him but began to grow tired of his possession game and his apparent ineptitude in the transfer market - such as selling club icon Domenico Berardi to West Ham for just over £20m. With United 9 points off of the Champions League places, the board have decided it is time to take action - just 3 days after the 3rd anniversary of Guardiola taking charge.

United have stated that the process will be undertaken at a slow pace, to ensure that the correct candidate is chosen. The current frontrunners according to the bookies, are Antonio Conte of Southampton and Ryan Giggs of Spain - who of course spent a long and decorated career at Old Trafford.

Manchester United re-appoint Giggs

He's back! Ryan Giggs has returned to Old Trafford, this time as the permanent manager. Having spent several years away from the club honing his managerial skills at West Ham (along with spells in charge of Argentina, France and Spain), both the board and Giggs himself have decided it is the right time for a return.

Giggs arrives with United in 6th, 5 points of Liverpool in 4th with 4 games to go. He also has a massive Champions League semi-final meeting with Paris Saint-Germain coming up, which promises to be a true clash of the titans.

Undefeated in the league, albeit with easy fixtures.

Derby: My first game and a perfect performance. Freitas had been complaining because Pep splashed out big bucks on him and then didn't play him, so I gave him a chance and he didn't disappoint.
Reading: Rested players for the first leg against PSG, and it showed. However the reserve players stepped up and we got the win. Another brace for Freitas!
Swansea: Again, a rotated side - but Swansea are good enough to punish us. They came from 1-0 down to lead 2-1, but Malcom popped up to preserve the unbeaten record.
Fulham: This performance was solid, but fell just short (as will be shown in the league table)

That's why the result wasn't good enough, we miss out on 5th through goal difference! Guardiola deserves some credit, we did lose the least number of games of any teams in the league! However, there may still be a chance to get CL football ;)

Another clash of the titans win for United - they've come round the hard way, coming 2nd in their group to PSG before facing Juventus, Real and then PSG in the knockouts...

Away: A good performance, unlucky not to win. Freitas scored again, after a goalmouth scramble to put us level after they took the lead with a great team move.
Home: They barely threatened, as we took an early lead through a Rúben Neves thunderbolt and strangled the game from there. Neves did get sent off later though, although it was soon cancelled out by Marquinhos' professional foul.

In the final, we will face:

TEAMS:
View attachment 163187
We're slightly weaker overall, Neves is suspended and Herrera and Meyer are injured. Only Neves stood a chance of being in the first team to be honest. Bayern are at full strength, Lewa is in one of his best seasons on this save and Götze has gone from strength to strength since Klopp took over. A tough match for sure.

0': Kick off! Can Manchester United repeat the heroics of 1999, or will Bayern finally get revenge for it?
5': United corner, Malcolm takes... into Shaqiri - off the line! And here come Bayern with Lewandowski, to Götze, through to Draxler. He goes to shoot... super tackle by Laporte!
9': Short free kick from Bayern, it gets worked out to Alaba who whips a cross across the face of the goal!
15': 2 yellows in quick succession for Bayern, as both their CM's get booked for cynical fouls.
45': Chance! Throw taken quickly by Alaba, Draxler threads it to Götze who fashions some room for a shot - straight at De Gea!

45': Half time, United with the lions share of the possession, Bayern with the main chance of the game.
50': A good spell of possession for United ends with Januzaj slipping it through for Freitas. He's 1-on-1 with Neuer, but as he has done throughout his career Neuer blocks it. Big chance for United.
55': Bayern launch a counter, but Tielemans overhits the pass. Romagnoli takes a poor touch under pressure from Lewandowski, and he's clean through. Unlike a man in the form he's in, he completely fluffs his lines and skies it!
57': A change each, Bayern replacing Tielemans with Amartey, United take off Freitas for Icardi.
69': Another Bayern change - Bruma on for Draxler
82': Short corner from United finds Shaqiri on the edge of the box, he hit's a curler... it's good... ooh, off the bar!
85': Final Bayern change - Kimmich for Rabiot. United withdraw Shaqiri and send on Moreno.
87': United counter from a Bayern corner, the initial cross is cleared but they recycle the play and send it in again. Better ball, and it's met by Icardi! Neuer tips it onto the post though - brilliant save!
90+2': Final stages of normal time, Bayern pouring forward. Muller drives to the byline, tackled by Romagnoli - he goes over! Penalty? No! Bayern keep on coming, it finds Lewandowski on the penalty spot - saved by De Gea. It falls to Götze - what a block by Yeboah! That has kept United in it!

Seconds later, the end of 90 minutes. This is going to extra time. United have 1 sub left, but only defenders on the bench! Poor Januzaj looks to have suffered a bruised thigh as well, but there's no-one to replace him really.

97': Januzaj whips a free kick in, met by the head of Romagnoli...!! Hits the post!!!!
103': Passlack with a cross... nope, out to Muller on the other side. He slides it into Götze, nice dummy, LEWANDOWSKIIII!!!!! Smashes it home! 1-0 to Bayern, Giggs looks at his bench - there's nothing there to help him!

105': Half time in extra time. Giggs looks on in despair. What can he do?
Final roll of the dice. Blind on for Schneiderlin.

117': Bayern managing the game really well now it has to be said. Throw in taken short, kept in the corner. Bruma sends it to Lewandowski in the middle, nice backheel to Amartey - surely he's offside?! No says the linesman and he's through on goal! No mistake! 2-0, surely game over.

120': That's it! Bayern Munich have won their 6th Champions League title! Ultimately, it was the lack of options up front for United that cost them.

View attachment 163175
A good performance by most of the lads, we just fell short up front - only Malcom can really look back with any pride out of all the attackers we used!

United Transfers

I did say that I would splash the cash did I not? It is worth noting that there could have been major outs - Milan placed a £27m bid for Moreno - I couldn't find a suitable replacement, P$G offered £34m for Januzaj - he's HG at United, They also offered £45m to take Yeboah back (Never a deal!) and Chelsea offered a blockbuster £72m for Malcom - again, never a deal!

Jean Carlos
View attachment 162710
Valued by Lewie at about £20m, delighted to get him for half that price! Shaqiri is beginning to get on a bit, and like Payet at West Ham, they start to decline dramatically at this stage. Carlos is the future, and I don't see why he can't make an impact now.

Calum Chambers
View attachment 162709
After selling Zouma and Fosu-Mensah, I needed a new HG centre back to go with Suliman. Despite an initial reluctance to sell, Liverpool eventually agreed for a shade under £40m. He looks good enough for the side, but I still think in hindsight that I kind of panic bought him.

Miltiadis Mitropoulos
View attachment 162708
THIS KID IS BRILLIANT! Look at those attributes! His lowest average rating for a season is 7.16, and he forced his way into the Barcelona team aged just 19! £77m up front, can rise to about £85m. I'm sure he will be worth it - what can go wrong? (Cue a broken leg...)

Elsewhere
View attachment 162705View attachment 162706View attachment 162707
Obviously our deal for Mitropoulos is the big deal of the window. Matheus Pereira was being tracked by us until one of our scouts showed me Carlos. And spare a thought for Pavón, twice being used as a deadline day panic buy because I wouldn't sell (first when PSG couldn't get Lincoln, now when Chelsea failed to buy Malcom)!

Biggest Deal of each month (not Mitropoulos)
View attachment 162702View attachment 162703View attachment 162704
Pavón and Coman look worth the fees, Domínguez very much depends on his development.

A solid start, as we had some tough games.

Liverpool: A dominant performance, but neither striker covered themselves in glory whilst a defensive mixup between Romagnoli and De Gea let Liverpool score.
Arsenal: We found some shooting boots :P Another defensive error - Laporte this time, saw Arsenal take the lead but we fought back and deserved the win.
Fulham: And then the best performance of the month as we trounced Fulham. Our goals came in 2 sets of 2 as we went 2-0 up within 6 minutes of each goal, and turned 2-1 to 4-1 in the space of 2 minutes!

Some good results in there, some disappointing ones.

West Ham: They're not staying top! We dominated them, just couldn't get that elusive goal :/
Middlesbrough: Exactly the same story. Icardi not on form, Freitas not on form. Shaqiri did a Payet with his free kick!
Crystal Palace: And just like that the goals start flowing. It's Malcom on the wing though, not our strikers.
Stoke: Domination again, only to be downed by a wonderstrike by Phillips. Think Vardy vs Liverpool.
Swansea: Top form! Jean Carlos scored to cap an impressive few games, Icardi scored to signal the start of his return to form, heck - even Laporte scored!
Norwich: I had a tough time scoring past Norwich at West Ham. No such problems here. Shaqiri netted another stunning free kick as well.
Man City: Not so noisy anymore! Comfortable derby win for us :D

Club Brugge: Similar to the PAOK game - and another free kick from Shaqiri!
Brondby IF: It just clicked. We dominated from start to finish and put them to the sword. 4 goals on a rare start for Freitas - he seems to work better with 2 up front.

Everton: A frustrating draw to start the update, as we couldn't seem to hit the target at all!
Spurs: And again, our shooting boots desert us.
Chelsea: This was better, but Courtois was in fine form!
Derby: Our first win this update, and a comprehensive one at that!
Leicester: It gets better, with Malcom getting another hattrick to push him into the top 3 league scorers this season.
Villa: Another commanding win, goals well spread out.
Southampton: The toughest of the wins, as Southampton put up a real fight but the early penalty did for them in the end.
Watford: De Gea was beaten... but Shaw and Carlos scored!
Forest: They're struggling for form, we just twisted the knife further in.

January Transfer Window Review

Man United Transfers
View attachment 161438
Not much for us, with our hands pretty much bound by the loans that are squeezing out our money so the focus was on outs. I could've cashed in on some players to cancel out our debts, but then we'd have been left with a squad shortage as I'd have been unable to buy replacements. In the end, it was just a couple of fringe players who left, and Herrera will join them in the summer (returning to Bilbao on a free).

We're at that point in the save now, 4 of the top 5 (not Mayoral) transfers are all regens!

James Kelly:
View attachment 161436
The only one on this list I had been tracking, he's one of the best regens on the save with a PA of 197! He had an excellent goalscoring record for the England Under 21's, and has just started to force his way into the full senior team - aged just 19! Sadly, this is probably where his career ends due to Chelsea's track record of signing youngsters.

Alfredo Cadenasso:
View attachment 161435
The only one of the 4 I wasn't even aware of but he looks a tidy left winger, and could yet be a good buy for Milan after 3 fairly mediocre years at Lazio.

Abderrahmane Azaouagh:
View attachment 161434
Apart from being every live text commentator's absolute nightmare, this kid has all the makings of being a solid RB for years to come - rose to prominence at Norwich, although I thought he didn't have the talent to make it at United. Some good mentals on this kid though.

Miroslav Trucha:

The 2nd of PSG's big fullback signings, this time from City. Definitely worse than the other guy (to lazy to even copy and paste his name :P ) though, so I'm expecting him on the PSG transfer list scrapheap within 2 seasons.

Arsenal: Another title rival, another poor result. They scored early and saw the game out in relative comfort from there on in.
Crystal Palace: Back to our menacing best, as Freitas and Malcom combine to see off Palace.

Wow, it's close at the top. 2 points seperate the top 4 - although should we win our game in hand that will become 3 points. The board only wanted top 4, so we should get that fairly comfortably.

Gillingham took us to a replay... Palace caused less trouble than them!

Gillingham (Away): All credit to them, they played well and caused us some problems. Probably should've still won though.
Gillingham (REPLAY): They'd recently lost their manager and it showed, as we outclassed them.
Crystal Palace: Another dominant performance, against what should be a tougher team

Into the final with ease.

Away: We were on top, the goal was just reward for our efforts.
Home: A comfortable win to see us through.

Might not be our most threatening rivals, but they can beat us if they're on form. We need to be careful.

Their confidence has gone down quite a bit, nowhere near enough for my job to be in danger though!
