Celta Vigo Vs SD Eibar

This was a tough fixture against an in-form Celta side, it was a match that they controlled for the most part and despite the fact they had many more attempts on goal than us, we still had the better opportunities, unfortunately we was unable to capitalise on some very good chances. Overall a draw was a fair result.


SD Eibar Vs Granada

Granada is another opponent that are above us in the league and in a much richer vein of form, however we really showed our class to upstage them on this occasion. Three goals from Diego, Denis and Dani ensured we had the win in the bag well within the first half. This is the kind of performance I would like to see on a more regular basis.


Athletic Bilbao Vs SD Eibar

A tough result to take as we looked to build some momentum going into the final stages of the season, a win here could have really changed the overall outlook of the league table for us. Atheltic just about had the larger share of possession although we had more and arguably the better opportunities, yet again we just didn’t take them.

As you can see, a win at Athletic would have really changed the way the table looked for us, we could have been on 42 points with a plus goal difference, which would then have seen us just 3 points below Granada and Athletic in the fight for 7th​ place. As it stands we need 9 points which I think may just be too much now, I now am looking to consolidate our position in the top half and come back next season stronger!​
 
Tough break 2nd half of the season! On the plus you now have a competitive team which can only be built upon!

SD Eibar Vs Barcelona

What a result!! This brilliant 1-0 win was down to our resilient defence, Barcelona kept coming at us but we managed to keep Messi, Suarez and Neymar to off target long ranged shots. This was a much needed performance as we look to finish strongly. Arguably the result of the season.


Real Madrid Vs SD Eibar

This result was no more than I expected, the football gods had already answered our prayers once this month against Barca, we went to the Bernabeu and were rightfully beaten. The Galaticos have been the best team in the league this year and showed their dominance once again. Good to see Rascaldani starting to show a bit of form again at the end of the season.


SD Eibar Vs Levante

A great win against a Levante side who will still needing a win to ensure they don’t get sucked into the relegation scrap. Some outstanding performances from Oviedo, Dongou and Carrasco, also yet another goal for the youngster Molina who has really impressed since his arrival, I will be looking out for him as a break through player next year.


Elche Vs SD Eibar

Our second 4-1 win in a row and great result. The match itself was a little strange given that Elche had more possession and 25 shots on goal, that optimises their season though as they are one of the lowest goal scorers in the league. Another very pleasing win.


Mallorca Vs SD Eibar

Given our recent good form and scoring 8 goals in the last 2 games, I would have thought that going to bottom of the league and relegated Mallorca would have been an easy win, it was not the case, in fact there was only one highlight for the entire game. Bore draw.

If you are an optimist or a gambling man then you may say we still have a chance of finishing 7th and qualifying for Europa.. personally I would be happy with 9th and carrying on our strong finish until the final game.​

Definitely, we are easily a top half La Liga team now. It might just take a bit longer before we can regularly challenge for the European spots.

A second match in a row where we face an already relegated side, we do tend to struggle in the matches where we are favourites. Our lack of killer instinct in front of goal all most cost us until Dongou stepped up to score a short range effort late on. Still a good performance, a solid win and it left us in a very interesting position going into our final match.

This was a fantastic way to finish our campaign, the score line may have flattered us slightly but never the less we deserved our win and it was a great way to send the fans home after an indifferent season. What did that mean for our final league position and did results elsewhere go our way?

So despite the fantastic effort over the last few weeks it just wasn't quite enough, we remained in 9th​ position. There are plenty of positives to take from this season including some good debut seasons from Dongou and Rascaldini as well as a brilliant campaign for Patric and then the emergence of youngsters such as Molina and Calvo, a lot to look forward to and build on for next term.

Elsewhere despite the individual brilliance of Suarez and Messi, Real Madrid claim the league title with a massive 100 points, the gap between Real, Barca and the rest of the league is still very obvious, we have a lot of work to do if we are ever to bridge that gap.

Good to see you can are still able to get a top half finish. With some big additions next season you should slip into European spots. (H)

Yeah I think we have enough in us now to maintain a top half finish each season now. I already have some great transfers confirmed, updates will be up once we firm up a few more deals.

It's great to see some of the lads get the recognition they deserve for their efforts, Patric has really stepped up to for-fill his potential this seaosn and I will be looking for him to continue his growth next campaign. Suarez was outstanding for the second half of the season and is now out of contract with Barcelona, my first piece of business will be sitting down with him to discuss a permanent move to the Ipurua.​
 
A very strong end to the season. Defeating Barcelona is always a joy! :)

You can push forward next season and qualify for Europe.

Not bad at all, it gives me plenty to think about for next year. Yeah that was great result, was expecting another spankin!

I hope so, I just hope we can make the right signings to improve a few areas!

Bad News

The bank balance is in a much stronger position after making a £12m profit over the last season, we are just weeks away from the completion of the expansion to our youth facilities which has taken almost a year and the chairman decides to scrap the lot due to financial circumstances.. What?

I am still fully committed to my job here at The Ipurua but I must admit I am very disappointed with this news, if we are ever to make a serious step towards our goals than we need to invest at grass roots, I am starting to question the owners ambitions.​

Season 4 - Pre-Season 2017-2018

Well this will now be the beginning of my fourth year in charge at the Ipurua and I feel like the progression has been steady and positive. In my opinion this season could be very important for the future of SD Eibar and myself as a manager, we are now at a sustainable stage in our development and we need to use this platform to give us the momentum to push on for regular European football

After the disappointment of our new youth facilities being scrapped, I received an email explaining my transfer budget would be £6m for the season, although this was accompanied by a low wage budget and the promise of a top 7 finish.
I straight away decided that I will need to take advantage of players who are out of contract and to do this I would need to vastly improve our wage bill, selling players was on my agenda, one sale in particular..

Rascaldani has gone to Villa for £11m (Release Clause). He was our main threat in front of goal but I am more than happy with this deal as we make a £9.3m profit in just one season.

Other transfers include the deal to sell Ramirez I agreed back in February for £2.6m, he just hasn't had any impact at all with an average of 6.47 rating across 16 appearances, I was more than happy to take a profit. Also Karacen left for £500k as he just isn't getting the game time and his wages could be better used elsewhere.

Transfers In

With an overall total income from transfers totalling around £14 Million, added to our initial budget of £6million, we was now looking at a kitty of around £18 Million (due to transfer revenue not being 100%). I sat with our financial director and explained that I had not intention of using this on player transfers and we negotiated a new wage budget of around £300k a week for new players.. I started my gruelling search..

That was a sale mate, we signed him on a free last year but he was really poor and injury prone, happy to make a profit.

Thanks, I was really happy with that sale, I think I have reinvested the money wisely as well.
