This is a save I do on every edition of Football Manager.

The career is fairly straightforward. I copy managerial legend Sir Alex Ferguson's career, starting of at lowly East Stirlingshire working my way up to Manchester United via St Mirren and Aberdeen.

Can I not just copy the career path of Fergie, but win as many trophies as him?

Let the journey begin...

Having just been promoted to League Two in Scotland we have a load to do just to get a squad good enough to survive relegation never mind rising up the league and attracting the attention of St Mirren.

We signed a lot of players, all on free transfers the best of which are below (and I use the word 'best' lightly)

Season One - 2017/18 - East Stirlingshire

Just promoted into the Scottish League system after a year out the minimum I expected was a relegation battle and at best a mid table spot, getting to know the many new signings we made and build a squad for a much better second season.

20 games gone

A good start for a team threw together in the final days of the window. I'll take mid-table at the end of the season to be honest.

We are neck and neck at the top with preseason favourites Stirling Albion! We've already secured a playoff spot which is more than we could have hoped for at the start the season.

View attachment 59695

Our form hasn't gone unnoticed as I've been offered various jobs including Brechin and, recently, Dundee United. I only have eyes for St Mirren who have already sacked one manager in a disastorious SPL campaign that sees them firmly at the foot of the table.

The board rewarded my loyalty..

END OF SEASON 2017/18 - East Stirlingshire

View attachment 59693

CHAMPIONS!!!

Ourselves and Stirling went head to head for most of the season with an ultimate showdown with three games left when we beat them at home 2-1 to open up a 4 point cushion with two games to go. A nervy win against Albion Rovers in front of 584 people secured the title!

Th
e first of many league titles I hope.

A SURPRISE PROMOTION PUSH BUT ARE WE OUT OF THE TITLE RACE ALREADY??

View attachment 59523

We maintained our good start but defeat to Livingston see us 10 points off the pace now.

OFF TO DUNDEE UTD?
View attachment 59524

The early favourite for the Dundee Utd job. Good to see the reputation is growing.

An offer did come but I rejected it as I only have eyes for the St Mirren job to copy Sir Alex's career path. Unfortunately for me St Mirren are top of the Championship and looking like securing an instant return to the Premier League.

In other news, we reduced the gap at the top to 3 points with 4 games to play, with a playoff spot at the minimum already secured.

DOWN TO THE WIRE!!

View attachment 59520

We've reeled in Livingston who were 10 points clear. Neck and neck with two games to go.

As fate would have it we are away to Livingston on the final day of the season.

WINNER TAKES ALL!!

View attachment 59521

The pressure seemed to get to our young side as we failed to win either of our last two games and defeat to Livingston meant its the playoffs for ourselves and the title for them.

SENSATIONAL!!! Favourites for relegation after our surprise promotion from League Two. However we defied the odds and even mounted a title challenge only to fall short with two games to go.

Playoffs are never good but it was fairly comfortable in the end as we reach the dizzy heights of the Scottish Championship.

We won't meet St Mirren in the Championship as they secured a return to top flight football. In terms of the career path that is probably a good thing as St Mirren will be among the favourites to get relegated and so their manager could find himself on the chopping board fairly soon

BREXIT

View attachment 59508

A hard Brexit

Not really an issue now as I can barely attract Scottish players to join me but it will definitely make the Aberdeen and Man Utd stages more difficult

This could be a looooooong hard season. We still have players from our League Two. Perhaps we've been promoted too quickly. The playing staff are far below Championship standard if I'm honest.

Hopefully St Mirren sack their manager sometime soon to save me a tough relegation battle with East Stirlingshire

18 GAMES IN

View attachment 59364

At least we managed a few wins! Still bottom but not too far adrift at this stage

24 GAMES IN

View attachment 59361

3 wins and a draw see us out of the relegation zone for the first time!

Key to it has been a loan signing from Rangers

View attachment 59362

I should thank him for my new contract also.

View attachment 59363

St Mirren, now in the Prem, are predicted to finish 11th. They currently sit 10th so their manager won't be leaving anytime soon I think.

THE JOBS OFFERS ARE COMING CONSTANTLY

Seems like I'm linked with most jobs now despite being at the bottom end of the Championship.

Dundee, Dundee Utd, Hamilton and Inverness all approach me but the biggest yet:

Beating Paul Lambert and Patrick Vieira to jobs!?!

EAST STIRLINGSHIRE SURVIVE!

A thriller against ICT (a game we should have won!) saw us beat the odds and retain our place in the Scottish second tier.

View attachment 59347

We ended a respectable 7th, 7 points clear of the relegation playoff spot. It looks more comfortable than it was I can promise you.

View attachment 59346

Elsewhere...

Despite sitting in 10th spot for most of the season St Mirren hit a woeful run of form with only 1 win in 15 that saw them relegated from the Prem via the playoffs.

View attachment 59345

Consequently, Jim McIntyre was SACKED after I expressed a sneaky interest in the job!!

ALEX FERGUSON PROFILE

As I enter the second phase of this career I have an identical win ratio of 52% as Sir Alex did when he left East Stirlingshire. However Fergie was only there for 4 months. In my time we managed two promotions and a League Two title.

OFF TO A GOOD START

We start the season well despite losing goalkeeper Scott Bain to Rangers on deadline. I went on holiday and came back to find Rangers had activated a release clause :'(. Lesson learned the hard way, we now need to rely on the reserve keeper until January.

We recorded a fairly routine win over my old club to keep us on top of the table ahead of a League Cup quarter final.

We dispatch Ross County and Inverness in the quarters and semi finals respectively to set up a trip to Hampden Park for my first ever cup final

In the league we open up a 8 point lead at the top. An immediate return to the top flight looks ever likely

What a game! Two nil down after 19 minutes and it looked like curtains for our lads. However a goal just before half time gave us hope and Conner Walters wrote his name into St Mirren history with a second half brace. I got him on loan from Hearts and his 23 goals in 29 games show this Fergie has an eye for a transfer too.
