27th February, 2011. Wembley Stadium, London.

"Only about twenty minutes away now." The bus driver leant back to look at me and the excitement built up inside me for probably the eleventh time today.
"Cheers." I said back to him, the nerve was noticable in my voice. But I didn't care, I looked back down at the open briefcase open on the table in front me and used my unbrushed teeth to remove the lid of my biro. And I got back to work.

As we edged through the narrow, grubby streets of London. The nervous sensation built up again as we edged ever closer to the mammoth that is, New Wembley Stadium. I was told the stadium would be packed today and that 40,000 St. George FC fans would be packed into the stadium. I'd only ever heard a maximum of 17,000 in one place before, so this was going to be some spectacle.

There was only one injury worry, and it was our captain; Jack Rodwell. But it wasn't a real worry to me, as our resident Scotsman Bradden Inman could fill in that role with ease. Of course, the defensive resillience from Rodwell is an area of our game that we sourly miss when he's away, but c'est la vie.

As the bus ground to a halt, I stopped the lads from leaving. I'd decided to not tell them the team until today, and now was the moment.
"Alex Smithies. Michael Mancienne. Chris Smalling (captain). Lee Wilcox. Ryan Bertrand. Bradden Inman. Fabian Delph. Jordan Henderson. Victor Moses. Tom Cleverley. Nile Ranger. You know where you play; good luck lads."

The team talk went off without a hitch and that deathening, shrill bell rang for five seconds. The lads knew what it meant, and they sprang to their feet; jumping and shouting. It was a brilliant side, and my side were about to head onto the pitch, at Wembley, for a piece of major silverware.

The boys were led out by today's captain, Chris Smalling. The two teams lined up, and the national anthem was sang by Eliza Terrence, and hand on heart, for the thirteenth time today, the nervous sensation shot up my spine. "Oh ****, unlucky thirteen." I thought to myself. But now wasn't the time for superstions.

My heart was in my mouth by the fifth minute. As Emile Heskey flicked on from a Stylian Petrov long-ball, James Vaughan was on the end of it. It was him and Alex Smithies, 1-on-1 but it was a beautifully placed shot and Alex had no chance. We were 1-0 down already, great. But then I was saved for by the whistle, and for the first time in my life, I was actually grateful towards an official.

The game up until the 31st minute was Stylian Petrov dominance. I was in awe of his ability. We had come up against Fabregas, Modric, Arshavin, but they didn't seem to compare to the Bulgarian. He was everywhere, and nearly scored; thrice.

31 minutes and 16 seconds in, Victor Moses thred a perfect through ball to our goalhound, none other than former Newcastle hitman, Nile Ranger. He made his way around Irish International Richard Dunne, and found himself in a 1-on-1 with Brad Friedel. Cool as a cat, he lifted it over the veteran American, and celebrated with a one-handed point that Alan Shearer would be proud of.

Bradden Inman had alot of pressure on him. Jack Rodwell's shoes are big ones to fill, and he obliged in the 45th minute when he found Tom Cleverley with an inch-perfect 70-yard box-to-box pass from the young Scot. Cleverley controlled it with his chest, took it round young Curtis Davies and slashed it into the corner. As I punched the air, the crowd erupted, and the "Cleverley" chant could be heard from all corners of London.

The half time talk was relatively easy, and for the second time today, that shrill bell shreaked through the dressing rooms, and the lads jumped up. I could see a few mixed emotions, happiness, courage, joy, and then I looked over to Jack Rodwell and Jordan Spence and I saw completely the opposite. I held them back afterwards and made sure they knew they would be playing. And I told my captain that he would be lifting the cup today, when we win. A smile erupted onto his face and the next few minutes flew by.

After 58 minutes at Wembley, Steve Sidwell was commanded to play the through ball by his striker James Vaughan, and he obliged. Mr. Vaughan held up to his side of the bargain by sticking the ball in the net for the second time in 60 minutes, but Villa were still 2-1 down. They had work to do.

And it wasn't until the 84th minute there was any action. And that action was simply a double substitute as Jordan Spence and Jack Rodwell made their way onto the pitch. Lee Willcox and Bradden Inman were the unlucky couple as I gave them a small handshake for their troubles.

And there was no more trouble for us, Jack Rodwell sat in front of the defense, and controlled the game from then on in. The final whistle blew, and the sudden realisation sunk in. We were League Cup Champions. We were going into Europe. We had won!

Jack Rodwell made his way up the long staircase followed closely by his team, passing the St. George fans. Aston Villa had already made their way up and collected their silver medals. And Jack had one look at the trophy, gave it a kiss, and raised it above his head. The crowd cheered, the players celebrated, and I clapped.

As the boys headed back to the bus, I did a quick head count and we only had seventeen out of eighteen. It was my responsibility, so I headed back for Nathan Delfounso. I journeyed back into our changing room and heard some noise in the shower area. I went in and Nathan Delsfounso was lay on the floor, limp.

I looked around, and saw a foreign looking man, in a very dark navy suit. He looked up at me and as I had instinctively made my way towards Nathan, he blocked my way to the door. He said, "This is only the beginning" and then walked away.

Great update mate. I knew it was the players and well done on winning the cup

Woohooo :) great result mate really is :) I still think this and the Cockfosters story are the most el thought original stories on the site. I look forward to the update when you tell us you've won the Champions League with this team!

I can't wait to see how this saga plays out...now that it's moved on from letters and paint to physical stuff, it's getting pretty intriguing!

Great result btw, great cup win. Well done!

I love this story
And the sidestory of the spanish man and danger makes it really exciting

amazing well done! im sure you'll tear Europe up, iv just read about 8 pages catching up from my holiday!

Ok i Admit I was wrong its just got great again !!!!!!:D

Really good to see so many people not just reading, but commenting on it as well. Comments really do give brilliant motivation.

i really like your idea, as soon as i get my computer back im downloading the database, the only suggestion i can make (i dont know if this is how you do it) is that instead of buying players you should only use your academy team

ps. sorry for my english (A)

But the aim of the team is to get the best players from around England. I won't do that if I just use my academy players.

I am a keen reader my friend, find it hard to comment half the time but keep up the good work... should try the prospect of Troy Deeney?

I've got alot of options up front, tbh.

Ranger, Delfounso, Nimely-Tchuimeni. Austin is banging the goals in in the Championship for Watford, on loan, and Ryan Nouble is dominating League 2. Also got a classy regen coming through.

St. George FC assistant manager held his first full press conference in response to the club's brilliant success in the League Cup this weekend. In the conference he discussed his feelings before and after the match, as well as the latest news on Nathan Delfuenso's condition, the young target man was rushed to hospital yesterday afternoon having been found almost immediately after the match:
Amy Lawrence, The Guardian:Joss, what's the most recent update on [Nathan] Delfuenso's condition, can you tell us what happened, and how he is?

J. Bennett, St. George FC I've been personally asked by Nathan's family to give them some privacy for the time being, i have also spoken to Trevor [Brooking, manager, St. George FC] and he has agreed that for this week at least, we with hold any information we receive from the doctors in charge, or from his family, and the police. I can reveal that Nathan was found by the gaffer lying unconscious in the showers, and after an ambulance was called, he was taken to an unnamed hospital, for security and privacy means, we ask that this topic not be brought up, or that anything else is revealed until the club release an official statement.

David Haytner, The Guardian: To win the League Cup in such a fashion, without your inspirational captain, [Jack] Rodwell, must be a fantastic season, i imagine your young team has been given a much needed rest, especially with Delfuenso in hospital, have you spoken to Mr. Brooking about the match in detail, and how did you feel after the game?
J. Bennett, St. George FC:Trevor has respectfully asked me to take training for this week at least, while he gets some much needed rest, he has also been a little ill since the Villa game, so has been recovering from that too. The players are tired, as they have worked extremely hard and have done brilliantly to do so well, but we still have to focus at least a little on League 1, in which we are also doing very well, but we must not get complacent and throw away this chance. In answer to your second question, before the match i was excited, but nervous, the manager and I had spent so long discussing the team and our tactics, in the end, we stuck to what we knew best, and the lads played their hearts out, which is all i asked for after Trevor Brooking had given his tactical talk, they were all warming up, and i just said 'good luck, do us proud' - i think that helped, because the pressure was off a little bit. The boys are so happy, and so am i, i could hardly watch the last 10 minutes, and my heart sank when James [Vaughan] scored early on, luckily it was ruled out, and we bounced back well.

That's all for today, as you can understand, i and the team are very tired, and politely ask everyone to be patient, as we take some time out from the press, to recuperate, and prepare for our next game.

END OF PRESS CONFERENCE
Diary Entry: Mon, 28 February 2011
What a way to celebrate the leap year! Not that i've ever really been into that malarkey. Still - i'm so proud of those lads today. Next year, they are going to be going places, doing things, that other kids their age playing the professional game can only dream of. Europe. What can i possibly expect, to be perfectly honest, i wasn't sure we'd beat Villa yesterday, i know they're all good players, and Trevor is a superb manager, they all know each others games, and all this is working like a treat, but Wembley can be a very daunting place. That goal from Nile [Ranger] settled all my nerves, if he can do that again this season, i've promised him i'll take him and his family out for a posh meal, not that i can afford it, mind: This club is forever paying back debts, we're meeting deadlines though, and i don't care one bit how much money i lose at the moment, as long as we keep playing how we are, with creativity generated by confidence, and good performances, and with our hands on our hearts. The other thing was this ****** Spaniard though: Why hadn't he told me before? I hadn't mentioned it to the press, or the players - as far as they know, Nathan hurt is head after he slipped in the shower... we have to tell the players at least. Maybe not now, but at some point, especially if they're the targets. I have hired a private detective, despite Trevor insisting it was unnecessary, i got my way though, and a Mr. Hughes was now living with the manager, following his every move, and recording those calls. I didn't so much lie to the press though, i genuinely had no idea how Nathan was doing, or whether it was serious, i had given him and his family some privacy, they've graciously agreed not to talk to the press until the club does. I checked my e-mail, and i had one from George Crawshaw, he was an agent, and he had two players who he thought i might be interested in, Chris or something Fairclough, and Paul Taylor, the first, a Left Back from West Ham, we could get him for free if we "act quick" he says.. Taylor is touted as the next Owen Hargreaves by the Man Utd faithful, hopefully he lives up to that, without the injuries... I've invited them to a private training session tomorrow, if i'm impressed, i'll put them in training with the other lads for a week or so, and then i'll have to talk to Trevor Brooking before approaching either club, or player. I gave the lads the day off today, they went celebrating, no doubt drinking alcohol below the legal drinking age! I say i gave them the day off, we just watched the cup final a couple of times, and i went through the positives, and tried very hard to find some negatives, Jack and Jordan had a light running session to get back to fitness.
For now, i'm tired and my wife's calling for me, so i'm off to join her!

SORRY.. I DIDN'T REALISE IT WAS SO LONG

Great story mate, easily one of the best on the site. Its not often someone puts as much effort into a story like you do (A)

Love it. This is just all awesome.

Just one thing about the banner. You left Forest Player as that in the top right hand corner. No wanting tobe picky...
