Fantastic update again Ed. Have you ever thought of becoming an author ? ;)

Great Update again Ed - Really good performances, disappointing loss to Derby, but oh well. Still have 6 games in hand, and, at 15th - i'm sure you'll be soaring up the table in no time..
Will update later today if that's OK - just about got over my results :'(

Brilliant update, this story lifts me up> your quality of writing is brilliant, and i really can't wait to find out where this plot twist is going.
Keep up the good work!

Still really enjoying this one. I think I may be the only person glad to see that Sergio Canales may be coming in - have you seen his stats?! The boy's a magician, and with a Scot in the side what's to say we can't get along with another lad who comes from a country beginnning with S? :)

Ed have you thought about getting a few more coaches in or possibly have some people on FM Base to be training coaches eg; goalkeeping coach , Alex smithies is in fine form this month because of the hard work he does in training. I have been showing him new exercises and even introduced a new routine in which the other goalkeepers are starting to show development on. You could also have someone do match reports on each game. Sorry If I am getting carried away but whatever you do this will still be a fantastic and fascinating story mate :D

Don't really want overkill, but that's actually a very good idea. Maybe have one coach for general training, though?

I think that would make the story more interesting and it gives a more in-depth view of the squad. If you did decide to have a coach for general training , once you have selected them you could either do a template contract offer to them or do a small discussion on a single post between you and the coach you are offering the contract to ?

Roles:-

Coach: To give training reports and updates on training only of the first team. This includes Alex Smithies, Jordan Spence, Chris Smalling, Lee Wilcox, Ryan Bertrand, Gary Partridge, Jack Rodwell, Bradden Inman, Fabian Delph, Henri Lansbury, Tom Cleverley, Jose Baxter, Victor Moses, Jordan Henderson, Nile Ranger, Charlie Austin, Nathan Delfounso.

You do not need to do reports on all of these, just who is training well, who isn't etc. You can do it from a perspective view, if you like, or merely as a training report.

Youth Coach: To give training reports and updates on training only of the younger players, and reports of those out on loan. This includes Liam Gibson (out on loan), Jay Mace (out on loan), Lewis Macey (out on loan), Mark Linnane, Tom Richards (out on loan), Paul Jones (out on loan), Kwaeme Atta, Peter Vernon, Ryan Morgan (out on loan), Andre Wisdom (out on loan), Charlie Ellis (out on loan), Paul Ionannou (out on loan), Neil Douglas (out on loan).

You do not need to do reports on all of these, just who is training well, who isn't etc. You can do it from a perspective view, if you like, or merely as a training report.

For both of these positions, your reports can be as in-depth or as non-in-depth as you like.

Interested to see what happens with Muniain.

ASSISTANT MANAGER JOSS BENNETT RETURNS TO PRESS DUTIES

Assistant manager of the Dragon Slayers gave his first Press Conference since the start of the season today, having taken a leave of absence following personal problems at home. The Dragon Slayer's favourite said he was 'delighted' to be back and was glad that things hadn't fallen apart without him around! The usual flurry of journalists were gathered inside the Press room and were joined by two journalists from Spanish sports papers "Marca" and "Gol" from 2:30 this afternoon.

Selected questions come from José Marquéz of Marca, David Hytner of the Guardian, and Ian Wright of the Sun.

First question:Ian Wright, The Sun: Hi Joss, you've been away for a while, but must have been following the progress of the club in that time... how do you think such a young team has been able to adapt to yet another level in the Domestic Leagues, as well as some tightly contested European nights (often in midweek)?

Bennett: I think the lads have done extremely well, they just keep going, and work hard in training too, the gaffer is giving them days off when there is an extended break, which they are all thankful for, but they knew that this season would be harder than the other two, and i think they're really enjoying their football. Despite my problems, i have been able to make it to a couple of home games, but i decided in the lack of Club Level box offices to sit in the stand with the rest of them! It was a great atmosphere against PSV in particular, and i think that really helped. So i'd like to thank the fans for the noise, and their support, they keep the club running, and the players motivated. I also want to publicly congratulate Trevor Brooking, and the players for that brilliant victory, among others.

David Hytner, The Guardian: Reports coming from West London suggest that you have agreed a fee with Chelsea for a promising young goalkeeper, can you confirm or deny these reports?

Joss Bennett: Yes, i can confirm that with advice from scouts, and myself, the manager decided to ask permission to speak to Steve Lunt, a 16 year old Goalkeeper, who will now join the rest of the team for £1.8 million. We have decided, however to keep him at Chelsea for the time being, as he is looking for games at Reserve level, which will be a good test for him, to play against good, often experienced players. I've seen him play live a couple of times, he is a very talented keeper, who is commanding, but a brilliant shot stopper when it comes to it too, we are currently building a very promising youth team, with the further addition of Paul Jones, who having trained with the club briefly, agreed personal terms and a move from Man Utd was secured, he is currently on loan, and doing very well too. I like to take credit for that one, so watch out!

José Marquéz of Marca (Translated from Spanish): Reports coming from the capital in Spain suggest that the club is looking to move for two of the brightest talents to come through the ranks in the Spanish youth teams, is this not against the club's principles if it is true?

Bennett Well, fortunately i think i can pretty much quell those rumours, we are not scouting in Spain, and we have a firm English policy (with the exception of Inman, who has played for Scotland). I don't know where these rumours have come from, nor why they would in any way true. I am not sure of any other players at the moment who are coming to the club in the near future.

PO Thankyou everyone. That's all we've got time for today, we'll see you next month for more..

Diary Entry, Tuesday 1st November 2011

****** kids. My 6 year old came home in floods of tears two months ago, after he was 'bullied' by his classmates, i, together with Sarah (the wife...) had been in constant contact with his school, determined to put a stop to it, and not have to move our child to a different school, and disrupt his education at such a young age.

Back to football now, and i'm so glad to be back at the training ground, i've got fat since i left, and now i need to work it off with the rest of the lads on the training field, not that i do much anyway. Tom [Cleverley] and Fabian [Delph] are obsessed with a new freekick routine, they were watching Match of the Day a couple of nights ago, and saw Dave Jones' freekick for Wolves, the one where he flicks it up and volleys it over the wall, Graeme Le Saux style. They're not very good at it though, and they keep arguing about who should take it!

It's been a great couple of months for the club though, qualifying for the group stages in Europe was a magnificent achievment, against Czech giants Ostrava, they're not exactly big in World Football, but they're big enough for us, and to win so comfortably was amazing. And that European night at St. George's Park was incredible, the best day in the club's history without a doubt, i can remember it exactly: Lansbury, oh, what a way to find some space and weave past a couple of players...Ranger, Labsury....... He's Done It!!! That is magnificent by Lansbury! A couple of the lads photoshopped his face onto the picture of Eric Cantona, celebrating after that chip against Sunderland in 1996, now his confidence is as high as anything, he keeps trying to repeat the goal, and i keep telling him not to ruin it!

The only thing playing on mind was those spanish journo's, asking about possible moves for a Madrid player or two? I called Trevor Brooking, hoping for a laugh and dismissal, but what he had to tell me was disturbing, and kept playing on my mind.

Have been following for a few weeks now mate, but have just realised how to comment lol. Absolutely captivated by this story, THE BEST on fmbase by a country mile! Just thought I'd say happy birthday for tomorrow as well Sir Ed!(H)

Just had a proper read of the diary entry bit which I haven't, until now, looked at in too much detail and discovered what I've been missing! It's well written, very much like a 'thoughts spilling onto the page' type of narrative. Just a quick note - 1st October 2011 will be a Saturday (I didn't look at a calendar, it's my birthday and a Friday this year :) ). Apart from that wonderful, as usual!
