I know :( Brighton were shocking tbh. To slow on the ball.

Cup shocker
First real test in Europe
Injuries build up

Brighton 1 v 2 OM (EC)
Lopez
Possession 57%

“Our first real test in Europe. They raced into a 2-0 lead but Cheyrou got sent off late on. Lopez got a goal back but we couldn’t find the second.”

Brighton 0 v 2 Everton (L)
Possession 60%

“A disappointing loss we played well just didn’t take our chances. Both, West and Sissoko got injured for a month.”

Chelsea 2 v 2 Brighton (L)
Ulloa (2)
Possession 55%

“My first match against Chelsea since the 4-0 thrashing in the League Cup final. A good point against Chelsea. Unfortunately Lopez is out for three months. We are also still looking for our second win as well!”

Sparta Prague 0 v 3 Brighton (EC)
Ulloa (2), Philips
Possession 62%

“Ulloa scored an early goal after some bad defending by Sparta. A great away win against our main rivals for second place in the group.”

Brighton 1 v 1 Aston Villa (L)
Philips
Possession 60%

“Philips gave us a good lead however Agbonlahor equalised in the second half. We had chance after chance to score but didn’t take it!”

Brighton 3 v 0 Man Utd (LC)
Philips (2), Ulloa
Possession 51%

“We missed an early penalty however we didn’t regret it with Philips scoring an early goal. Philips added his second in the 65th minute and Ulloa scored ten minutes later. Philips and Caskey-Forster were influential and destroyed United’s midfield. There were also big names in their lineup: Rooney, Van Persie, Vidic, Carrick, Hamsik. But we still won, the League Cup seems to be our competition!”

November Summary
League form is still poor
Deciding Euro group games
Draw specialists

Man Utd 2 v 1 Brighton (L)
Ulloa
Possession 48%

“Shame it wasn’t the same as the cup game. Ulloa scored a late consolation. Our league form looks worrying.”

Brighton 2 v 0 Sparta Prague (EC)
Greer, Barnes
Possession 67%

“With injuries ending up having to play backup players including El-Abd at right wingback with Coleman, Bruno and Lopez out. Greer scored an early goal for us. Brought on Barnes and he gave us a second which keeps us ahead of our rivals and closing in on OM.”

Brighton 1 v 2 Arsenal (L)
Caskey-Forster
Possession 50%

“Arteta scored a lucky penalty for Arsenal and Giroud added a second. We scored a penalty in the last five minutes but couldn’t find a second. Could do with a couple of scrappy wins! LuaLua also got injured, adding to the list.”

Watford 0 v 2 Brighton (L)
Ulloa, Mackail-Smith
Possession 60%

“Our poor league form has made me forget about the bird puns. But we kept pecking away and got the result. We were lucky though they missed a penalty in the 80th minute and West also got sent off for unsportsmanlike contact. I’m generally very nice! Both our goals came in the 90th minute.”

Brighton 0 v 0 Stoke (L)
Possession 60%

“We missed a penalty in the 90th minute maybe its karma for the Watford game.”

Swansea 0 v 0 Brighton (L)
Possession 58%

“A good point but starting to become draw specialists.”

Player of the month:

Jake Caskey-Forster – the youngster has been great this month in the advanced playmaker role and produced good display against United and Arsenal.

December Summary
Great league cup form continues
Youngsters shine in Euro Cup
Drawn Charlton in the FA Cup again

Everton 0 v 2 Brighton (LC)
Greer, Ulloa
Possession 53%

“Sissoko…Sissoko… a great player but another sending off makes him seem like a liability along with his injuries. Greer scored a great header and Ulloa added a second. Through to the semi’s of the league cup. Got recently relegated Newcastle and feeling confident.”

Brighton 4 v 0 Shamrock (EC)
Buckley, Mcintosh (2), El-Abd
Possession 68%

“Gave youngster Mcintosh a debut upfront with injuries to Mackail-Smith and Barnes and wanting to rest Ulloa. He set up Buckley for the opener and scored two goals, with El-Abd getting on the score sheet as well. Great debut! Definitely going up with one point separating us from OM.”

Sunderland 3 v 0 Brighton (L)
Possession 56%

“Ireland gave Sunderland an early lead then they raced to 3-0. We just didn’t turn up and play our normal game.”

Brighton 2 v 0 Norwich (L)
Crofts, Ulloa
Possession 62%

“Gave youngster Comyn-Platt his first game in goal. A good home victory which pushes us up the table.”

OM 3 v 0 Brighton (L)
Possession 51%

“A disappointing result however we finish second behind OM and ahead of Sparta Prague and Shamrock Rovers. We will play the mighty Zenit in the next round.”

Liverpool 0 v 1 Brighton (L)
Philips
Possession 50%

“Philips gave us an unlikely lead in the 39th minute. Philips almost added a second but hit the bar. But we held on. Suarez squandered numerous chances. Too busy thinking about the best way to cook a seagull!”

Brighton 1 v 2 Fulham (L)
Philips
Possession 67%

“Fulham took the lead but Philips scored a magical goal running from the half way line and powering it in. £6.5m looks like a bargain now! A last minute Berbatov won it for them. Lifts Fulham off the bottom spot.”

West Brom 1 v 1 Brighton (L)
Mcintosh
Possession 56%

“An 89th minute goal by Mcintosh gave us a point.”

Brighton 3 v 0 Tottenham (L)
Ulloa (2), Crofts

January Summary
£15m added to my transfer budget, spending time!!!
Dramatic FA Cup game
Can we progress to the league cup final?

Signings:
In:

Tom Ince - £6.5m
Fernando Gago – loan

Out:
Mohammed Sissoko – cancelled loan
Kazenga LuaLua – loan

*Gary Hooper, Allan McGregor and De Vrij all signed pre-contracts and will sign at the end of the season

“Got a huge sum of money for the January transfer window. It was between Ince and Arda Turan who were roughly the same price, but Turan wanted £70k a week which we could barely afford plus a couple of players have match highest earner. Hopefully Ince can be as good as Philips for us. Had to terminate Sissoko loan kept getting cards and just got injured for a few months, had enough and brought in Gago. LuaLua goes on loan with Ince coming in. Hooper, McGregor and De Vrij will join at the end of the season.”

Brighton 1 v 4 Charlton (FAC)
Caskey-Forster
Possession 64%

"Gave debuts to Oliver Markoutz (signed by my director) and Sam Byram, who returned from loan. Déjà vu playing them in the cup this time last season but while we’re in the Premier League they are in League One. We were just awful making so many defensive mistakes and deserved to lose.”

Newcastle 0 v 1 Brighton (LC)
Ulloa
Possession 58%

“Ulloa gave us the lead with a scrappy goal. A good away win the league cup and hopefully can produce a good home win.”

Man City 1 v 1 Brighton (L)
Coleman
Possession 47%

“Man City took an early lead but Coleman replied with a rebound for us. City had chance after chance but a heroic defensive display gave us a point. 25 shots to our 3.”

Wigan 1 v 1 Brighton (L)
Ulloa
Possession 66%

“These are the games we need to be winning to push up the table.”

Brighton 1 v 0 Newcastle (LC)
Ulloa
Possession 56%

“Ulloa gave us an early lead. We held to our 2-0 lead on aggregate and progress to the final to play Man City.”

Brighton 4 v 0 Southampton (L)
Coleman, Ince, Philips, Mancienne
Possession 65%

“Coleman gave us a great lead. Ince added a second after a clever Bridcutt pass. Philips added the third before half time. Mancienne added a fourth to Southampton’s misery.”

Seamus Coleman – an unsung hero has been great at the wingback role for us and produced a goal and great defensive display against Man City.

Hull 1 v 0 Brighton (L)
Possession 56%

“A penalty decided this game.”

Everton 1 v 1 Brighton (L)
Crofts
Possession 62%

“My 100th game in charge of Brighton ends in a draw, ironic. Everton took an early lead but Crofts replied with a screamer. We had chances in the second half but couldn’t find the net.”

Brighton 1 v 0 West Ham (L)
El-Abd
Possession 66%

“He gave us the lead. Not a very dramatic match but a win pushes us away from relegation.”

Brighton 1 v 1 Zenit (EC)
Philips
Possession 48%

“Philips gave us a surprising lead but Zenit scored in the 91st minute which gives them an away goal. Gutted.”

League cup final:
Man City 0 v 1 Brighton

Mancienne
Possession 48%

Line up: Man City – Hart, Milner, Kompany, Nastacic, Baines, Fellaini, Rodwell, Hamsik, Silva, Nasri, Aguero (4-2-3-1 narrow)
Brighton – Kuszczak, Mancienne, Greer, Coleman, Bridcutt, Frimpong, Bertrand, Philips, West, Barnes, Ulloa (2-4-3-1)

“Looking at the lineup they learnt from Chelsea’s lesson last season by putting out a very strong team. There only weaknesses is they lack real width and Milner is at right back and I will look to exploit this.”

“Both teams were lively with Ulloa and Hamsik missing chances. Baines almost opened it up with a free kick. We gave the ball away and Aguero almost punished us. Going in at 0-0 at half time with City having the better chances.

Second half: they almost scored from a corner but Kuszczak produced an outstanding save. Also I decided to swap Philips to the other wing to try and get at Milner. We limited them to long shots throughout the half. Both teams key players got injured with Silva for them and Bridcutt for us (replaced him with Bannan).

After chance after chance for City Mancienne scored a rebound from a corner in the 91st minute. We won our second league cup on the bounce! In Europe again next season.”
**

Betrand got a call up for Brighton so hopefully it can be the start of England having an Brighton core with Bridcutt, Dunk, Comyn-Platt, West, Caskey-Forster, Byram and Ince being selected soon!

Zenit 2 v 0 Brighton (EC)

“Witsel gave them the lead and Hulk soon added a second. Just got outplayed today. This year in Europe has taught us a lot and hopefully we can improve for next season!”

Swansea offered me a great opportunity they are 6th and are offering me £20 million transfer budget. But had to stay loyal to the Seagulls!

Aston Villa 2 v 2 Brighton (L)
Barnes, Ince
Possession 55%

“Questioned the assistant manager’s choice in playing Barnes as the poacher instead of Ulloa upfront. However, I looked like a mug after he scored after 13th minutes. Ince added a second minutes later. Ollson pulled one back for Villa before half time. Lucky Villa: hit a free kick into a wall, bounces in front of Bent, 2 yards out, who scores.”

Brighton 0 v 0 Chelsea (L)
Possession 54%

“Probably not the best time to play Chelsea after they beat Sunderland 6-0. We played excellently defensively limiting Chelsea’s shot count. Dunk was phenomenal at the back. A good point!”

Arsenal 2 v 0 Brighton (L)
Possession 39% - woo what happened?

“Arsenal took an early lead and a penalty furthered their lead.”

Brighton 2 v 2 Man Utd (L)
Ince, Philips
Possession 52%

“Ince gave us an unlikely lead just after half time and Philips powered in the second. Former Blackpool lads have got Brighton firing! Van Persie pulled a goal back. Man Utd had a penalty but missed it. Thought my luck was in but Kagawa ruined it by scoring a total fluke. Remember the Cleverley goal against Newcastle it was just like that.”

Brighton 2 v 1 Watford (L)

April Summary
Season is coming to the end
Awful league form

Stoke 1 v 1 Brighton (L)
Crofts
Possession 57%

“Shelvey scored a total fluke just after half time. Ulloa got sent off which hindered our chance of getting back in it. However, after some messy Stoke defending Crofts scored a great goal. A good point at the Britannia.”

Brighton 0 v 2 Sunderland (L)
Possession 64%

“Just got outplayed by Sunderland. Our defence took a battering today and the score was quite flattering.”

Brighton 1 v 1 Swansea (L)
Mancienne
Possession 65%

“Mancienne scored a scrappy header. Unfortunately our keeper passed it straight to Cisse who equalised. However we reached the magic 40 points!”

Norwich 2 v 1 Brighton (L)
Ayala (OG)

“Ayala scored an embarrassing own goal. Bertrand gave away a silly penalty with the striker not going anywhere, and they scored. Bassong added a second. A disappointing loss.”

May Summary
End of the season
Kuszczak injured for 2 months
Could finish 10th – 16th

Brighton 2 v 1 Liverpool (L)
Ince, Barnes
Possession 58%

“Steven Gerrard got sent off early on. Don’t know why I think he was holding Gago. Ince scored from a counter after Liverpool were dominating. Lucas scored a rubbish free kick that Kuszczak would have saved, cheers Ankergren! 90th minute winner by Barnes!”

Fulham 4 v 0 Brighton (L)
Possession 60%

“Fulham went ahead and we conceded another penalty. Berbatov hit it straight down the middle which Ankergren flapped at. Reminded of ‘The Cube’ where the contestant has to catch the ball. We got thrashed by relegation threatened Fulham.”

Brighton 2 v 0 West Brom (L)
Ulloa (2)
Possession 56%

“Our final game. Could finish 10th to 16th so needed the win. Ulloa finally ended his drought with a brace.”

Bridcutt got called up to England prelimary squad with the possibility of making the world cup team. Ashley Westwood also got a surprise call up. Mixed feelings for Bridcutt, on one hand I want him to get called up but once he gets his first cap he gets a massive wage hike!

Player of the month:

Liam Bridcutt – was great this month, he has been playing in the anchorman role to accommodate Gago in the DLP role, but has still been a vital asset

Season Summary
Our first season back in the Premier League and we finished a record 11th. We also won the League Cup, got to the Knock Out phases of the Euro Cup and the fourth round of the FA Cup. We were quite inconsistent in the League and drew too many games, however 11th is very respectable for a team destined for the drop. Winning the League Cup was a great achievement, we had a bit of luck along the way but deserved it. We also set a lot of records for the competition which will take a while to remove. I aim to be better in the other two competitions next season, but our overall performance has been great!

At the end of the season Man City won the league with Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea making the remaining Champions League places. Misery for Fulham, Southampton and Wigan who were relegated. They have been replaced by Burnley, Reading and Newcastle who have come up from the Championship. Tottenham finished 5th meaning they are in the Euro Cup alongside us (League Cup winners) and Reading (FA Cup runner up). Man City won the FA Cup.

Round Europe: PSG, AZ, Juventus, FCP, Real Madrid and FC Bayern won their leagues. Dortmund beat Tottenham 1-0 in the Euro Cup. Man City beat Man Utd 2-1 in the Champions League.

“Gary Hooper has been brought in to ease the goal burden on Ulloa. De Vrij is a great young player who I couldn’t turn down. McGregor will provide competition with my current number Kuszskak. Coleman and Frimpong were both on loan so decided to sign them permanently. Gibbs is young and English and will provide competition down the left. Barry will add experience and comes back to his former club. It was between Adrian and Carroll on loan, opted for Adrian due to his versatility. The players I sold were not good enough for the future of the club.”
