At 3:00 pm today the board members of the Dutch club AFC Ajax have declared the discharge of manager Martin Jol. Jol was no longer wanted at Ajax after the Dutch newspaper "De Telegraaf" reveiled the former manager's involvement in a large scale gambling scandal. Uri Coronel, the chairman of Ajax, said both staff and the playing squad have lost their faith in Jol.
Rik Nuyts, the belgian cousin of the chairman was introduced as the new manager of AFC Ajax. Nuyts is a familiar face in Belgium and Holland, and the Ajax fans are happy with his signing as the new manager of their beloved team. Supporter spokesperson Ray Schuurman stated that the fans think Nuyts is a very decent coach and they hope Nuyts will bring a lot of silverwear to the club's homebase Amsterdam Arena.
During his press conference this afternoon at 5:45 pm, Nuyts gave some interesting responses at the questions of the attending media. When asked what his plan for the club was, Nuyts responded by saying he wanted to make AFC Ajax one off the biggest and best talent generating clubs of the world again. He went on by saying that the old Ajax was a top club in the world, winning the champions cupin 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1995, and the Euro Cup in 1992. He stated that his goal was to restore Ajax back to his former glory. After this question, well-known journalist Sander Smit from the "Dutch Football Post" asked Nuyts what his plan on the transfer market was. "I plan to buy only talented youth players" was the respons of manager Nuyts. He also said that he was aware that the finances of Ajax weren't good enough to buy the best of the best promising young players at this time. "Don't expect me to sign a Pjanic or a Balotelli this season" stated Nuyts with a grin. "I'll be searching for affordable hot prospects who can become important team members for the club, given the right guidance". With Nuyts on board, the fans are really interested to see if their team can win the Dutch Eredivisie (touted as second). Their biggest wish is that the team does well in the EURO cup and qualifies for the champions cup by winning the Eredivisie.
I hope you like the beginning of my story. My main goal with this story is to attract young tatlented players and eventually deliver a lot of world- (or at least continental
) class players again and make Ajax one of the biggest clubs again.
In the next post: more information about Ajax, the players, the facilities,... and maybe already some promising signings!
PS: sorry in advance for any gramatical errors, my English is pretty decent I think, but I really am from Belgium so English isn't my native tongue...
