*COUGH* Szczesny is Polish and De Gea is Spanish *COUGH* De Gea's competition is Reina, Casillas and Valdés *COUGH*

seems like you have a bad cough their ;)

Woj has Boruc, Fabianski, Zaluska and Kuzsak in competiton for the polish #1 top

Adding coughs makes it cool. You automatically win an argument when you add exaggerated coughs in asterisks.

*COUGH* Casillas' also had difficult competition - if De Gea is better than he was at this age, he'd be in the team IMO.

We're going round in circles, though and it's really pretty boring.

god damit guys. we dont need a goalie. flapps and wojo are good enough. i dont know about vito's future, but surely wojo is the future 1.

Love that you ignore the rest of my post. Top marks.

I admitted De Gea is better, I just said I'd rather have Szczesny because De Gea isn't significantly (£20M worth) better than Szczesny and I feel our 'keeper is better value for money.
You're not a midtable team, you don't need value for money. With Wenger's reluctance to spend big and the money you milk from your fans, ****, you probably have more money than you need. If you aim for the top, sometimes you need the better player, not best value for money. And that is your whole point - you're not paying 20m for 'a player the same age'.

I'm not ignoring that. I accepted that the general view is he's better than Szczesny and has a great future. Not sure where I've disputed his quality - it's you that is disputing Szczesny's quality. I doubt people have paid a keen interest in Szczesny right around Spain, so I doubt they know how much better De Gea is.

Obviously I'm biased, but my only point is that I don't think De Gea is 20 million times better than Szczesny, and that I'd rather have the latter because of the business sense in it and the fact he'll also become a top keeper. IMO, there won't be a huge gap between them.

Sigh, I did just say hes a very good keeper, but there is a clear gap between the two especially when it comes to command and aerial presence

How can you possibly tell that? Do you watch De Gea's games religiously, and can compare him clearly to Chesney, someone who lest us forget has only played about half a season? Even if you do do the former, doing the latter is unfair to both.

De Gea's better, yes. But 20 million better? Well, that remains to be seen.

I'd say he is the present 1 too, just needs a cooler head and needs to learn to talk to his defence more, needs to boss them about, very good shot stopper, but needs to get better in other areas. Tough situation for him becuase he must learn this while not getting too much help from in front of him

Can we shut up about keepers now?

I think we should get Samba ;)

That's why I did it too :)

Forgot financing a new stadium came from the fairies. How's your financial situation looking at the moment by the way? Got good owners, do you? Of course Arsenal is the only club that hiked up ticket prices, and Arsenal is the only club that "milks" money from the fans. Glazers don't milk any money at all. Never. Nu-uh.

We're not a mid-table team, and Szczesny isn't a mid-table GK. What's your point? Because you're completely missing mine. It isn't about only being better value for money because he's cheaper - it's my opinion that there isn't a huge gap between the two of them, and there won't be a huge gap between them in the future, despite what Mike says. Sometimes you have to pay over-the-odds, or sometimes you can bring in players for cheap at a young age, bring them through the academy and nurture them into better players instead of buying them 4 years later for more money. That reminds me of a certain club - I can't put my finger on it.. Oh that's right. Barcelona.

Sigh. We're going in circles - IMO, you're under-rating Szczesny/over-rating De Gea. The stats show that Szczesny has made only 5% less successful catches than De Gea - in a bigger, more powerful league, with an apparently awful defence, that doesn't seem to suggest there's a massive difference. As I said before - stats don't tell the whole story but they do tell some of it.
