Fact is that Arsenal in the last couple of years always buys some 'discards' from top clubs (Silvestre, Gallas and now possibly Alex). Only thing they want to spend money on are teenagers, which haven't got any/very little experience in premier league.

But for the time that is left and the players available at the market for a good price, I would sign Alex as he's much better than Djourou. After today only 2 days left to buy a decent left back, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder and striker. But I don't see it happen.

I wouldn't compare Gallas to Silvestre lol

One was a top class defender on his day and captain of the club

The other was a complete joke, hence the number 18 shirt

Hearing £7-10million for Alex, YES PLEASE!!!

Am I the only person that thinks Arsenal don't need another defensive midfielder? Song is top quality, Frimpong seems like a reasonable replacement and even Coquelin did okay considering the baptism of fire he was subjected to. Arsenal need a direct replacement for Fabregas with a bit of experience while Ramsey develops. Someone like Arteta would be ideal.

30m Double raid for Baines + Arteta then Cahill for say 17-18m. Would make me a happy gunner.

I dont know why you put us in the same bracket as Chelsea and City. We have always spent within our means. We maintain healthy Wage to Gross revenue ration which is below 50%. Not gloating but United marketing and business model is the best in the world rivaled by Madrid.

I find this hilarious, I just clarified that I had said that I never said ManU were reckless spenders yet you claim I said it once again. ManU are much bigger spenders than Arsenal because a)they're a much bigger club with a much, much broader global fanbase, and b)they didn't build a new stadium. Two totally different clubs and situations. ManCity and Chelsea simply are built on loads foreign money (basically FMRTE). Liverpool has also had a good deal too and now with KD at the helm and the good feelings there right now they'll definitely get top four. Simply tough luck for Arsenal.

Manchester United spend within their means, whats your point?

No No No, it would not put them in debt that is exactly my point. I applaud Wenger but he has utterly screwed up so far this window, and has very little time to put it right. They could spend that 80 million without damaging any of their financial status. Arsenal have really bollocks it up.

I can tell you what that plan B is, crossing the ball, getting men behind the ball, and then breaking on the counter, playing the percentage game. How he set up to play against us was suicidal. Gary Neville was spot on with his damning assessment of the game, and he is a staunch supporter of Wenger, despite being a manc (first thing he said is that is that it'd be crazy to get rid of him) The defence was all over the place, no organsiation. Forget plan B he didnt even send them out with plan A.

The free kicks game from defensive errors after being caught out on the high line, Jenkinson was sent off because the of the disastruos high line, park and nani's goals game from the high line

My point is that ManU is a much bigger club with a much larger revenue stream and they're not paying off debt for a new stadium. They can afford to be much bigger spenders. Arsenal shouldn't be expected to compete with them, until they pay off their debts and change their transfer policy their goal is top 4 and competing in all competitions. Should have won trophies last year but things went wrong and then they got rid of too many players this transfer window. We'll see if they make up for it.

I really think you're overestimating Arsenal's financial situation. Why else is Wenger so cheap? For the principal of it? Do you guys think he likes working on a lower transfer budget than other teams, having to constantly sell his best players? I trust his and the board's assessment of their financial situation more than ours. If they think they can afford to spend they will. If not, they won't.

Oh and as far as Plan B goes, they could have bunkered down and defended deep like other teams and kept the score reasonably close. This is what ****** me off about the reaction to the game. They had no chance going in to the game but at least they went out attacking. They were losing and rather than simply cut their losses and go for a respectable loss they went out attacking. But after it was 4-1 and they took of Coquelin they were absolutely screwed and they simply gave up, which allowed ManU to run up the score. They scored two goals and missed a penalty and had a lot of shots. They just left themselves wide open in their attacking. In retrospect they should have simply played not to lose by too much and kept the score to 2 or 3 goals, that way the media couldn't have roasted them so much. The real impact of this of course is psychological. Can the players recover? Are they confident enough in the team to win consistently? I think their starting XI is very good, good enough to finish in the top 4, but they have no depth and if they don't make some buys they'll probably slip out of the top 4. It's just near impossible to compete with the spending of the other big 4 right now.

I'd put CB above LB, if Djourou cant be relied on to lead the line if TV5 is out... well you saw anyway

Yet he did that most of last season and did a decent job at it. One awful game doesn't mean he's useless. Traore was even worse and I'd much rather have Djorou than Traore actually starting games for them.

And what happens when Song and Frimpong and Diaby aren't available, like today? They're absolutely screwed. Diaby isn't very good defensively and Wilshere definitely isn't a DM (and he needs to rotate playing the CAM with Ramsey). They need a DM and an LB desperately.

We are paying off debts. Not for stadium but the one that owners lumped on us. Still finding your excuses hilarious. Arsenal had money, Wenger chose not to spend.

Hopefully he buys LB, CB, CM/DM.

Im not overplaying it at all they had 50 million before the window, plus a significant lump from gazidis taking it to nearly 70 million. when you factor in their business that takes it to around 80 millon. Yes he is cheap because of his principles of getting the "right price" something that has worked well before, and spetacularly backfired so far. Seen Arsenal's quarterly figured and listened to the likes of Gadzidis. Arsenal could have competed, and should compete. To say their budget hamstrings them is wide of the mark

So what, you need 4 players for 1 position? You should be able to 'carry' a young player like Coquelin if you really needed to, he just had no support around him. Rosicky isn't good enough as the playmaker, you need a cm and a lb imo

Arsenal plays a 4-2-3-1. Wilshere and Ramsey need to rotate at CAM (Rosicky will be needed on the wing and he isn't quite good enough anyway). That leaves 3 players (Song, Frimpong, Diaby) for two positions. Diaby is very injury prone while Frimpong is young and inexperienced. They definitely need a DM. A DM/CB would be very nice as it would provide cover for both positions. Cahill would be perfect I really hope they get him. For their sake of course, as I'm not really an Arsenal supporter.

Wilshere wont rotate he will start at CM, and rotate to AM if needed. Rather than a pure DM they need an intelligent box to box mid

Not at the minute they don't. They're playing a 4-3-3 at the minute.
