Newcastle United transfer summary

Romelu-Lukaku-Anderlecht.gif

In what was somewhat expected, new Toon manager Alan Shearer made some major shake-ups in the Newcastle lineups in this transfer window.

The biggest name to join St James's Park was none other than highly rated Belgian teenager Romelu Lukaku. At seventeen years of age, Lukaku already looks a class act. He has already been rated as the 'next Drogba' and Toon fans will be dreaming that he can live up to the hype. The young lad said that he welcomes the new chapter of his career and he cannot wait to pull on a Newcastle shirt. He signs for £8,000,000 from Anderlecht. Here is just a preview of what the youngster can do:

In addition to Lukaku, the Toon also made five other signings. Highly rated centre back Sebastián Coates joined the Magpies for £2,400,000. Just five days later, Shearer added to his forward line with the signatures of Vaclav Kadlec and Garra Dembele for a combined fee of around £3,000,000. Former Manchester United academy player Febian Brandy joined on a free transfer whilst a familiar face returned to the club.......

After just over a season away from St James Park, Sébastien Bassong joins the Toon for £4,000,000 after he was transfer listed at Spurs. The Cameroon centre back is believed to be delighted to be back and wants to put the past behind him and do his best for new manager Alan Shearer.

Shown below is a record of all of Alan Shearer's transfer dealings:

After a recent fall out with Northern Rock involving sponsorship money, Newcastle United have found a new sponsor in Aegon. The insurance company has signed a two year deal to sponsor the Northern club and it is believed to reap more benefits than the previous sponsors. Adidas desgigner Pistolped designed the kits and the feedback from the Toon faithful has been fantastic, after the new away kit went out of stock thirty minutes after being on sale.

van Aalst to make managerial debut

Yes, new Newcastle manager Nick van Aalst is about to make his managerial debut, in less than twenty-four hours infact. But first, we must look at his transfer dealings, Newcastle's pre-season form, and the current injury crisis at Newcastle.

Transfers

View attachment 142849

van Aalst has made some big moves in this window, spending a total of £18,000,000 on four new players for the Newcastle squad. His first move was for Dutch right back, Gregory van der Wiel. An £8,750,000 move from Ajax making the headlines here in England as the first big transfer of this window. The 22yr old has said that he is looking forward to the challenge that the Premier League offers, and that he can't wait to play his first game.

VDWiel1.jpg

van Aalst's next move was an equally impressive bargain for Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa. Many had expected van Aalst to sign Ochoa, but not for the price he paid. van Aalst discovered a £7,250,000 minimum release clause in Ochoa's contract that has allowed the 24yr old to move to Newcastle for a reasonably low amount of money.

images

His other two transfers came in the form of Jo, from Manchester City, and Dale Jennings, from Tranmere. Jo comes in on a season long loan for a fee of £1,100,000, while Jennings makes a permanent move for £1,000,000. van Aalst has been accused of panic buying here, and many think that he could have found better players given more time.

van Aalst is also expected to make one more transfer in the near future, although odds of it going ahead are low. Australian winger/striker Robbie Kruse is a fellow Australian, and he seems a perfect target for van Aalst, apart from the fact he has just moved to VVV in Netherlands.

images

Only one major transfer out, Peter Lovenkrands to Hoffenheim, for £2,600,000. van Aalst said he is, "Un-needed in our tactic, and he has personally said he would like to leave if he would not get game time. I merely granted his wish."

James Perch and Ole Soderberg also go out on loan for a combined fee of £100,000, whereas Shane Ferguson and Yven Moyo move out on loan for free. Newcastle have also offered Alan Smith and Shefki Kuqi to many clubs.

Injury Crisis

A list of eight players, and growing. Dan Gosling, Steven Taylor, Danny Guthrie, Ryan Taylor, Jo, Fabricio Coloccini, Danny Simpson and Tamas Kadar are all out injured. Some for a few days, some for a few months, but van Aalst has a big task on his hands and he will have to play some of his reserves.

Skipper out for three months

kevin-nolan_gty_1371027c.jpg

It was learned yesterday, three days before the new Premier League season that Toon captain Kevin Nolan had injured himself in training and would be out for up to three months.

Nolan, a popular man on the Toon has established himself as one of Newcastle's star players and he will be sorely missed for around about quarter of the season. It is believed that the former Bolton midfielder tore his hamstring and was carried off the training ground on a stretcher.

it is believed that either Joey Barton or Stephen Ireland will be coming in as Nolan's replacement. Nolan is added to a list full of injuries and joins Steven Taylor, Danny Simpson, Danny Guthrie and many others on the sidelines.

Alan Shearer said:
We are bitterly disappointed with Kevin's injury. It will be a struggle without him i the middle of the park but we will just have to cope. We all wish him a speedy recovery.

August - September Update

Hatem-Ben-Arfa-12.jpg

We are here today at nufc.co.uk to bring you the update from Alan Shearer's first two months in charge.

Manchester United 8-1 Newcastle United
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Hatem Ben Arfa

Alan Shearer took charge of his first competitive match in his second stint as Newcastle United manager and it could not hae come much harder. The recently promoted Toon side came up against old foes Manchester United at Old Trafford. Toon held their own until two minutes before the break, when Darren Fletcher opened the scoring. Ryan Giggs ended the half with a fine strike. The goals kept coming in the second half, Giggs completed his brace, as did Fletcher to make it 4. Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov also helped themselves to two goals each. Ben Arfa grabbed a goal for the Toon just to make their fans feel a little better. It seems that Shearer was a little naive with tactics at the Theatre of Dreams.

Newcastle United 2-2 Aston Villa
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Jonás
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Vaclav Kadlec

After the massacre of Old Trafford, the Toon army hosted Aston Villa in their first home game since being promoted back to the Premier League. Things started well for them as Spiderman scored the opener after a beatiful run. Eleven minutes after half time Alejandro Faurlin equalied for the Villa. Twenty minutes from time, Newcastle thought they had done enough when Vaclav Kadlec struck one home from the edge of the area. This proved not to be the end, however when Steve Harper put one in his own net in stoppage time to hand Villa a point when the Toon were just seconds away from gaining all three points.

Carling Cup

Hartlepool United 3-2 Newcastle United
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Garra Dembelé
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Hatem Ben Arfa

It was a somewhat reprieve for Shearer's side when they travelled to Hartlepool for what was supposed to be an easy tie in the Carling Cup. This proved to be a lot harder when the home side took the lead after nine minutes. Just over quarter of an hour later, new signing Garra Dembelé equalised for the Toon and they were back on top. Newcastle finally took the lead five minutes after half time, through a Hatem Ben Arfa strike. The next twelve minutes proved to be a nightmare for Shearer's side though, as strikes from James Brown and Andy Monkhouse put the giantkillers through to the next round.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 Newcastle United

In a game consisting of two potential relegation battlers, Newcastle travelled to the Midlands to take on Wolves. In a drab match where the home side were slightly the better side, Wolves poached all three points with an 89th minute strike from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. Alan Shearer, still without a win.

Newcastle United 4-1 Blackpool
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Romelu Lukaku (3)
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Vaclav Kadlec

This was a game that was contested by two promoted sides at St James' Park. It was also the game that saw teen sensation Romelu Lukaku make his home debut for Newcastle. The belgian made an instant impact on Tyneside as he went on to take home the match ball with a fantastic hattrick. DJ Campbell struck one back for the seasiders but Kadlec put it beyond doubt and handed Alan Shearer his first win in his second stint as head coach.

Everton 1-1 Newcastle United
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Romelu Lukaku

After a romp at home to Blackpool, Shearer's men travelled to Merseyside to face Everton, brimming with confidence. The confidence was rewarded 37 minutes in as Belgian superstar Romelu Lukaku struck home. Ten minutes after half time, Tim Chaill headed home to equalise the game. Ten minutes after the goal, Everton captain Phil Neville was sent off but Toon failed to take their chances in what would be considered a good draw away from home.

Newcastle United 1-0 Stoke City
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Hatem Ben Arfa

To end the period, Newcastle took on Stoke City at St James' Park. In the first twenty minutes, the home side were dominant. After half an hour, Frenchman Ben Arfa fired home to give the Magpies the lead. The toon continued to press for the rest of the match but could not find a way past Amir Begovic.

League Table

Alan Shearer said:
I am pleased with my first two months in charge of the club that I love. In the game at Old Trafford, I was tactically naive. I tried to play with a left winger and not a right winger. This through out the whole sides balance and Giggsy tore us apart. Since then, I have sorted us out tactically and we are looking good. We have been unlucky at Wolves and against Villa but we must work hard to just concentrate for those extra two or three minutes.

Player of the Month

BenArfaHatem.jpg

Hatem Ben Arfa was Newcastle's player of the month for these two short periods. Ben Arfa has been in fantastic form, scoring three and making three assists. Lukaku is close to him but Hatem just pipped it.

Not the best of starts but at least it has picked up towards the end. No surprise that it coincided with the return of Lukaku! Nice update Dan

Ouch dan! few horrible defeats there mate. Hope you can pick it up ;)

West Brom and Newcastle were ready for there early relegation battle. With these two teams expected to finish in and around the last three spots on the table, this match could be a huge change, even if it was only the first match of the season.

Within the first four minutes, there were already two chances, one for Tiote, and one for Odemwingie. The game was end to end from the first whistle. Rash challenges flying in everywhere, but the referee looked on and let play go on. Well he did untill Mulumbu's horrible challenge on van der Wiel. That tackle earned him a red card and an early bath only thirteen minutes into the game.

128018-soccer-red-card.jpg

That didn't slow West Brom down, and they made it 1-0 through a Paul Scharner strike. Newcastle manager van Aalst looked down in disbelief, not knowing how they had a man advantage, yet a goal disadvantage. Newcastle changed up their tactics, and pushed for an equaliser, while West Brom sat back. Newcastle won that battle eventually, and Nile Ranger made it 1-1.

_47203512_ranger_av512.jpg

Again, the game bogged down, West Brom defending in numbers, and Newcastle just not being able to crack the defence. Halftime came and went, nothing changed, and the game rolled on. A foul was given to West Brom on the edge of the box with ten minutes left. Nicky Shorey stepped up. 2-1 West Brom.

NickyShoreyGeCliveMason.jpg

Newcastle looked deflated, except for one man, Nile Ranger. He began a one man, ten minute crusade, for one goal, and one point. He succeeded. An 89th minute goal put Newcastle back on terms, and one corner of the Hawthorns went crazy. Nile Ranger had done it, replaced Andy Carroll, and in style.
