Newcastle 0-5 Chelsea
Torres more than impressive for blues!

Torres shows it's just another day at the office

You certainly couldn't blame Newcastle for wanting to prove a point against Chelsea. They went out with the intention to win, but in the end, class came above spirit.

And as the class shown, so did the sparkling forward line of Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba. The mention of two of the deadliest forwards in the world would surely be enough to frighten any CB pairing. Well today I think it did more than just frighten Newcastle, it destroyed them.

It certainly didn't start well. An early build up of possesion from Chelsea lead to a delightful through ball from Malouda to find the Ivorian Didier Drogba who smashed the ball home to make it 1-0 to Chelsea. He celebrated by waving his arms in a gesture to emply 'game over.' Drogba though has done this before. It sparked annoyance from the Newcastle players and bench, though the FA have already stated that no action will be taken as there is not enough evidence to emply offence was meant to be caused.

Things got bad to worse when Torres then netted a brace. The Spainard recently completed a British record fee of £50million from Liverpool to Chelsea and struggled during pre-season to find any sort of form to head into the new season. But the Torres that stepped onto St. James' Park today was what people will called the 'old' one. He was strong, quick and deadly which was highlighted by his brace. His first came from a corner via Frank Lampard. The kick fell kindly to his feet on the 6 yard box which, in fairness, you wouldn't want it to fall to anyone else. 2-0, and it already looked gloom for the Toon.

His second came via a darting run down the line from Ashley Cole. The attacking full back then played the ball in-field to Lampard, who in turn found Malouda before knocking it to Torres to cooly slot home into the corner from 12 yards out. The above picture was Torres' celebration, not quite like his iconic knee slide which he developed at Anfield.

After the break Chelsea pilled on the misery for the Geordie faithful. The 4th came from a header from Branslav Ivanovic. A free kick taken by Yossi Benyaoun was greeted by the Serbian who rocketed the ball past a helpless Steve Harper. The final goal in this compelling rout was finished by 'Le Sulk' himself, Nicolas Anelka. He recently expressed his lack of pleasure in the signing of Torres and admitted he was looking and keeping his eye else where. He celebrated by simply walking back to the halfway line and shrugging of team-mates who tried to grab him. Unlike his celebration, his goal was a good one. Finding himself isolated on the right wing, he ran at Jose Enrique. After getting past the LB, he drilled a low shot from the edge of the box across the keeper and netted in style.

In other news for Newcastle, Brazilian forward Neymar has suffered a torn calf muscle and will be out for 3 months. Jefferies admitted it was a cruel, cruel blow for both parties, Newcastle and the youngster. He had recently earned his 1st cap for Brazil whilst also making his competitive debut for Newcastle. He recently featured in a Nike advert in which it states 'Write the Future'. Lets hope Neymar writes the future for Newcastle in the near future.

Nice to finally see some updates from you Toddzy! Not a great start though :( Mistake at the bottom in the BBC bit. It says Bolton, rather than Chelsea.

It doesn't get much better I'm afraid. But thanks for pointing out the typo :)

December Update

Here is the nufc.co.uk update for December for Newcastle United's fixtures.

West Brom 2-1 Newcastle

Vaclev Kadlec

After a great month in November, Newcastle kicked off December with an away game at fellow newly promoted side West Brom. Things did not start well for Shearer's side as Chris Brunt gave the home side the lead after just four minutes. Three minutes later though, Vaclev Kadlec equalised for the Magpies and sent the away end into raptures. It was the last cheer they would have in the match however, as Brunt gave West Brom the lead and the win with half an hour left to play.

Newcastle 1-1 Sunderland

Garra Dembelé

Next up in the month for Shearer's Newcastle team was the Tyne and Wear derby against Sunderland. This was a game where the fans would be on Shearer's back if his team slumped to a loss. It was looking that way when Danny Welbeck gave Sunderland the lead after just a minute. Six minutes later, Dembelé equalised for the Toon. For the rest of the game, Sunderland created many chances, but it was enough to get past Steve Harper as the Magpies held onto a draw in the Derby.

Newcastle 2-2 Liverpool

Garra Dembelé

In their third game of the month, Newcastle United faced off against Liverpool in the league. Toon started well in the game, creating a few chances before Kadlec opened the scoring just short of the twenty minute mark. The Magpies took a one goal lead into half time but it was not long before an equaliser came. David N'Gog poked it home from short range. Just two minutes later though, Kadlec was fouled in the box and Newcastle were given a penalty. Garra Dembelé smashed it down the left hand side of the keeper to give Shearer's side the lead again. It looked all but over until Dirk Kuyt struck home three minutes into added time to steal a draw for the Merseysiders.

Shola Ameobi

Newcastle headed to Birminingham to try and secure their first win in December. It did not look good though, when David Bentley handed Birmingham the lead forty one minutes in. In the last kick of the half though, in form Dembelé equalised for Toon. Alan Shearer must have given some firm words at half time as the Magpies came out firing. Ten minutes after they returned from the break, Jonás gave them the lead. Kevin Nolan sooner doubled the lead with a brilliant strike. Shola Ameobi completed the scoring and an excellent second half performance by Newcastle, sealing a 4-1 win.

Newcastle 2-0 Manchester City

Steven Taylor

To end the year, Alan Shearer's side hosted title hopfuls Manchester City. The first half was a very equal affair as both sides shared the chances. The second half though, Shearer's side came out firing. After a couple of missed chances early on, Dembelé shot home just after the hour mark. After withstanding some heavy pressure, Steven Taylor headed home to double Newcastle's lead and hand them a great win.

Another brilliant month for us and after a poor start we picked up brilliantly. We lie in sixth place now and I only hope we can keep this form up.

Garra Dembelé has been in fantastic form this month. He has covered for the injured Lukaku and has scored four goals in five appearances.

Great update from you Dan! KIU. :)

Newcastle 3-3 Charlton (Newcastle win on pens)
The Toon finally enjoy some success!

Barton and Nolan celebrate the opener

Heading into the game Newcastle had been on a terrible run of form. 2 defeats in 2 games had left confidence a bit shaken under new manager Jim Jefferies. Newly promoted under Hughton, many wrote them off along with Blackpool and WBA. Today they had the chance to laugh off the doubters.

Things again though didn't start well as Charlton took off from the blocks quicker with a convincing 3-0 lead before HT. It was courtasy of a wonderful hat-trick from new boy Bradley Wright-Phillips, the younger brother of Shaun and son of Ian Wright former Arsenal forward.

His first came after 12 minutes when an excellent passing move from the Londoners led Christian Daily to feed a pass to WP who then beat Williamson and scored by passing the ball across the keeper and into the bottom corner. Boo's were then heard all around St. James Park as Jim Jefferies side continued to heavily underperform.

WP took his second very well. After cutting in from the left he took on Ryan Taylor. He left the RB in his wake as he progessed onto beating Williamson again before playing a one-two with Semedo on the edge of the box. With Tim Krul in his way, he easily chipped the ball over the top of the Dutchman. Although only 27 minutes had been played, many fans were already spotted heading for the exit. Jim Jefferies was simply caught with his head in his hands.

His 3rd was a scrappy, scrappy goal. AFter a corner had been drifted in a failed clearnace from Phil Airey led WP to toe poke his 3rd home and celebrate by sticking 3 fingers over his mouth and taunting the Geordie faithful. Jefferies needed to get some sort of response from his side at HT because for him, and the club, this was becoming embarresing.

The second half produced a new Newcastle. Led out by Barton and Nolan, the CM pairing were fired up and came out and hit Charlton hard. The League 1 outfit find it difficult to cope with the Premier League sides class and eventually caved under pressure. Newcastle's first came from Joey Barton, a 30 yard monster which flew past Rob Elliot. Barton(seen above and below) celebrated with Nolan and tried to motivate the rest of the team.

Barton after final whistle

Things got even better when Spainish LB Jose Enrique netted a simple tap-in from 3 yards out. After Nolan had played through Maikon Leite, the Brazilian had his shot saved before the attacking LB capatilized and netted for Newcastle. With 30 minutes left the remaining fans in the ground could no doubt smell the comeback. Jefferies was on the touchline screaming instructions.

And it finally paid off. The makeshift CB pairing of Williamson and Kadar came up trumps when the young Hungarian scored a header from a Steven Ireland corner. The Newcastle fans were in raptures as there side had pulled off a stunning achievement with this comeback. Could they now win this?

They did so by taking it to penalties. It was then Steven Ireland who was the hero by scoring the 5th penalty which set up and away tie at Portsmouth for Newcastle. Jefferies admitted after the came despite the revival his side produced they should have been dead and burried and must improve for the away trip to fierce rivals Sunderland.

New Newcastle in November

A bit of an up and down month in November, but Newcastle have looked a different side, and many have asked, are they finally on the up?

---

Newcastle 0-2 Wolves
Premier League
St. James' Park

A huge upset at St. James' Park, and after a dominant performance from the Toon, it was Wolves who walked away with the win, and the three points. Newcastle had more possession, shots, clear cut chances, even more corners than the opposition, but Wolves did not care, and they went on to win 2-0 in the end. Manager Nick van Aalst will be wondering how his side lost after such a good performance, and again, Newcastle will be shooting at practice!

---

Newcastle 3-0 Blackpool
Premier League
Bloomfield Road

Stephen Ireland grabbed two and Dale Jennings grabbed another in a brilliant performance away from home. A second dominant game in a row for the Toon, and Nick van Aalst will be much happier with his sides finishing today, and will be hoping they can take this form into the rest of the month with big games against Man City and Chelsea coming up in the near future.

---

Newcastle 2-2 Birmingham
Premier League
St. James' Park

A first and last minute goal from Birmingham was enough to give both sides a point each, and left Newcastle fans leaving St. James' Park very disappointed giving away a last second goal. Jo got his first Toon goal for the season, and Coloccini grabbed the other two give Newcastle a point. Newcastle's finishing was a bit better this game, but their defence was questionable, more things to work on at the training ground.

---

Newcastle 1-3 Man City
Premier League
The City of Manchester Stadium

A last minute Hatem Ben Arfa goal adding some respect to the scoreline, though Newcastle deserved little more than that. Man City will be disappointed with the goal conceded late, but three early goals made sure that they were safe, and that they had three points in the bag. Newcastle must improve for the last game of the month against Chelsea.

---

Newcastle 2-1 Chelsea
Premier League
St. James' Park

A brilliant win for Newcastle in their fight for survival, and a key step in saving Newcastle's manager Nick van Aalst. Hatem Ben Arfa opened the scoring with Newcastle's second shot, before Jonas doubled that lead with Newcastle's fifth shot on target out of five shots. Nick van Aalst looked very proud of his side, especially Guillermo Ochoa's performance to save his side. Salomon Kalou made it a very tense last half hour, but Newcastle held strong to please the fans with a huge three points.

---

The Toon are still sitting in 15th place, and now they are starting to look like a Premier League quality side, but they will need to improve on both ends before they can think about next season.

January Transfers

b_20110304130628_lucas_rodrigues_moura_da_silva_lucas_spfc.jpg

January came around and it was due to be an exciting period for Alan Shearer's high flying Newcastle team. Just ten days into the window, Alan Shearer made the move to bring Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey to the club on a loan until the end of the season. The loan will cost the Toon £1 million. Next, Leon Best left the club for a fee of £2,700,000 to Wigan. Best was only rumoured to be back up at St James' Park since Shearer joined the club. Next, Mike Williamson was on his way out of the club, leaving for Celtic for £1,800,000. One day before the window closed, Alan Shearer made the move to sign Lucas from Sao Paulo for £8,500,000. It seems as a bit risky but the Brazilian is believed to have the world at his feet.
