***THE BETTER HALFS TACTIC UPLOAD & DISCUSSION

I agree, it's fun to make them just not to use download them and use them constantly :P I have had my fair share on this forum, none were brilliant but I tried to replicate certain types of football at the same time!

I've had a milan one this season, A LLM set last season a long with a very defensive formation and by far my best tactic ever was my false nine!

Hope you had fun making it ;)

Yeah, i did. It looked like this

Its the formation that the AI cant handle. That and the wide play Of the TQ and Poacher.
You got a TQ to work well? I've had a couple quality TQ in lower leagues and just played them as different types of stiker as I couldn't work out how to play them! Just screenshotting now, I'm playing a network game with friends so managed to test with Woking. So I will post the tactics soon.

No, I have tweaked his role slightly. He now acts like à holding player, with free role and move into channels on the highest mentality.. With mixed in ALL his settings for most games. Against teams playing 4231, he holds onto the ball until he drags one Of the DCs out Of position and then put à t- ball into channels for either the FCR or the AML to run into, depending on what DC that is out Of position. I have also tried having him om cut Inside but then he needs to be Quick with flair and dribbling and up against à high D-line so he can skin the defenders him self

Hey TBH.
I just started an Aston Villa save and wanted to come up with own tactic for a change. I never really had much luck with tactics and usually had to download some to make a season, but i'm determined to succeed this time around.

Here's my current squad:
View attachment 237432

and here's my current tactics:

View attachment 237433

I'm getting a lot of the possession but i can't seem to create any chances and when i do my strikers buckle under the pressure , except for the big man himself, Heskey who's my top goal scorer so far. I'm 4 games into the league with 2 draws and 2 defeats so it's not been really working , but i have one in the League cup twice 4-1 against Port Vale and 2-0 against Burnley, but it's hard not to beat them with the squad i have.

Can you give me a hand at all , point me in the right direction perhaps? I really don't want to have to download another tactic , i want to learn from my mistakes. If you need anymore screenshots then let me know!

Also, i've been looking for the Tactics Analyse screen, i've heard a bit about it but i can't find it , unless its the Analyse on the game screen.

Thanks.

Hello

Whats is meant with the pure TC-settings. TC???

thx

CHELSEA 41221

A TOPTEAM & MIDDLETEAM TACTIC

Notice ! The tactic is NOT uploaded. Instead, just follow the instructions as how to set it up. Any tweaks away from the pure TC-settings will be pointed out in the text and/or the screenies.

Disclaimer: This is in no way an emulation.

Here, we will find not 2 or 3 but 4 approaches. When playing wih a top notch team, the aim will always be to BE IN CONTROL OF THE GAME, no matter how the opponent chose to play .The key is to see if your players are finding space that they can exploit or of they have to create it them selves, if the players need to sit deeper and counter or if you have to push up and gain control by hassle the opponent
The tactic uses complete fullbacks and a mobile and complete FC ( by quality, not role). In midfield, we use a anchorman, a creative player and one that is allowed to burst forward. Finding space. So in short, it’s a destroyer/marker, a creator and an explosive box2box. Down the wings, we use Inside forwards
As you also see, this approach is not for top teams only, but also for middle teams.

Top teams vs Middle teams – What approach am I most likely to use ?
- Well, if playing a Chelsea, you are more likely to face defensive teams and actually be able to stretch them ( as you are quality), hence using the first approach more often than lets say Blackburn, that are morel likely to use the 2 counter approaches.

General Tweaks away form the TC settings:
- Focus play set to Mixed

Also suited for
: All teams that has many good central MCs and not too many FCs. Teams that do have the quality to finish top 12(!), i.e not being a real underdog

1st strategy: Attacking Possession

Although this is the main approach, you will probably need the other ones just as much. Perhaps not in the home as Chelsea in your 4th season, but as Olympiakos or Benfica in the CL, you need to be more cautious then this. Here, we play a balanced control based approach and let our wide players provide lots of width and we hassle the opponent and at the same time we try to keep possession when getting back the ball.

If playing against really deep sitting teams, It can be a good idea to actually shout “ drop deeper” in a way to stretch the opponent even more and if this ultra defensive opponent is using a holding DMC that gets a lot of ball, us the FC to man mark him and close him down always in the OI´s.

General Tweaks away form the TC settings:

- The MCright have Hold Ball set to NO ( so he never does it regardless of shouts)
- The focus play

nr1p.png

2nd Strategy Direct Counter

Here, we play on the counter, getting the ball forward. We push up the team and play more direct balls into channels for our attackers and wingers to run onto. This is a way to exploit either the gap between the opponents attacking wingers and their deep sitting defenders and/or their attacking fullbacks, playing the ball over the top. If the opponents its with the while team behind the ball, this approach can be fruitless

nr2u.png

3rd Strategy: A BALANCED APPROACH

Here, we try to sit with more men behind the ball, retaining possession and keeping the ball in the team. Obvious, we will still burst at goal and since we play with 4 attacking minded players (by roles and player types), this will happen often. The fullbacks will not join the attacks but instead move up with the rest of the team and keep the shape. We keep dribbling to a minimum and play a shorter passing game. In short, we play a nice possession based approach in that sense that we keep possession in good positions and restrict the opponent to keeping possession far away from our goal.

If being uncertain how to start a match, this is ALWAYS a good option

nr3c.png

4th Strategy: Cautious Counter

Here, we are playing much more cautious, perhaps an approach that will mainly be used away to really good teams or when wanting to grind out a result ort hold on to a results. To cool things down a bit.

Hello

thx

Just for future reference: don't quote the whole thing, either post the question or use spoilers.

(Like this [.spoiler][./spoiler] but without the full stops)

thx!

f.ex. For your 1st strategy: Attacking Possession with CHELSEA 41221

This means that you take all the instructions from the TC except that points you mentioned in the text?

Quick question off the topic, what is the skin in your game?

TBH, spotted a post earlier post with sets of shouts, are they specific to that tactic or are they general sets of shouts that can be used with most?

TBH, spotted a post earlier post with sets of shouts, are they specific to that tactic or are they general sets of shouts that can be used with most?

Was it these

Overall strategy

I would actually use either very Rigid with normal Creative Freedom or Fluid with more restricted one. I would allow romaing and I would press more. i would never tweak any of the sliders ( apart from the already mentioned move into channels fro the wingers)

Have a look at the following shouts and see if you spot a pattern in the Standard and Counter Strategies

In that case, they are for balanced squads in the EPL and CCC. I have only tried them with the formation listed in the header of the screen though and not in any asymmetric formation or any wingless one

Naturally, for these shouts to work optimal, one should monitor the first minutes of the game to see what is going on on the pitch. Either you implement them at "pre-kickoff" when you have a pretty good idea as how the opponent will approach the game( like playing a midseason game as Man U home to Wigan) and then watch the begining of the match, or if not really knowing what to expect ( like playing as everton away to A.villa), watch the beginnig of the game and then use them as a reaction to what you see

Hi Better Half

Are you going to release any tactics for the 12.2.2

Let me know soon man

Thanks

TheBetterHalfs Tweak of Akashs (sumthin) 4231(MCs) Here for top teams

Abstract

People that have read my most in recent years know that I have moved away form using plug & play tactic, tactics that by tweaking sliders in a trial & error manor with the aim to beat the match engine rather than the opponent. So this might come as a slight surprise, being a thread where I not only upload such a tactic, but also that the tactic is a tweak of someone else's work, namely Akash777 ( who in his turn have used one of Mr H as a framework)

When looking at the tactic, you will see that very few things have been altered from Akash version. The tweaks that have been done are naturally of importance. Simply put, I wanted to make a Wide 4231 using MCs for high middle teams/top teams, a tactic that work both against teams attacking you and teams sitting deep and defend. Small changes have been made to the passing, creative freedom, the holding DMCs, the fullbacks and the AMC, now acting like a TQ although not actually used as the playmaker

Notice that the result with Leicester IS with a good team

The players

All players:
Determination, Team Work, Work rate and Decision
Also notice that I have not brought the "common sense stats" in any of the players beneath, like finishing for the strikers or passing for all players etc.

Fullbacks
View attachment 243331

Style of play
When not launching an counter attack, they should stay back so no ppms like " get forward" etc. These player act like holding players and when seeing fit, they will try to beat their man
Stats
Here, we are looking for pace, anticipation, positioning, stamina and tackling. Dribbling is a huge plus to.

-----------

Central Defenders
View attachment 243329

Style of play
As we use loose zonal marking, make sure that they don't have the ppm " like to tight mark"
Stats:
The normal ones: Remember that Anticipation are crucial for any top team and that pace is needed if the opponent launches balls over the top of the defenders. Remember that the worse concentration they have, the more likely you are to concede late in games and when you are dominating but not scoring yourself

-----------

Left MC - Defensive Midfielder
View attachment 243332

Style of play:
He is actually a mixture of an Central Mid on defend and a ballwinner on support He will need to be able to cover lots of space and both anticipate the next move to close down the opponent as well as deliever good passing to the wingers. He keeps a really simple passing game and as he is so restricted, its important that he is concentrated enough when under pressure as he is given very, very few alternatives
Stats
Stamina, Strength, anticipation, tackling, Concentration

-----------

Right MC - Hardworking BBM
View attachment 243333

Style of play:
He is actually a mixture of an Ballwinner od defend and a Box2Box. He will need to be able to cover lots of space and both anticipate the next move to close down the opponent as well as deliever good passing to the wingers.Late in attacks,he moves into channels from deep, he needs to be smart and have good off the ball stats He keeps a mixed passing game
Stats
Stamina, Strength, anticipation, tackling, Concentration, Off the ball, positioning, passing

-----------

AMR/LWingers - Complete Wingforwards
View attachment 243328

Style of play:
As the wingers are used as both pacey Wingforwards AND defensive hardworking wingers, its naturally COMPLETE players that will do the best of job. But as these players are really hard to find, I crucial that they most of all are physical classic English Wingers, that they know how to close down and tackle. Inverted wingers ?. Well why not !!"
Stats
Pace, off the ball,flair, crossing

-----------

AMC - Roaming Trequartista
View attachment 243324
Style of play:

This player is used more or less like a Trequeartista and should be able to both find open space and be able to handle the ball in tight spots. Its also crucial the he DOES NOT like to shoot from distance as he will then often do this in haste and under too much pressure. Like stated above, he should not actually BE THE PLAYMAKER, but instead, always look for free space and make those opening t-balls
Stats
Off the ball, agility, first touch, creativity

-----------

Forward - The Complete Poacher
View attachment 243330
Style of play
:

This is the main goalscorer. He needs to be able to find space, break free from his marker by dribbling past him. When he moves down the line into channels, its also good if he has good team work stat so he cross the ball to a tam mate insetad of taking the poor angle. This player can actually be a player like Tevez or Aguero, RVP, a player that likes to come deep to get the ball
Stats:
Off the all, Flair, Agility, First touch, Technique

-----------

Tweaks and Shouts
As its a plug & play Tactic using classic mode, I use no tweaks and shouts are enabled

Opposition instruction
I have not used any at all but feel free to use them in a manor that suit the actual formation. ( i.e NOT showing MR/L wingers inside if they use overlaping fullbacks

Playmaker & Target Man
None is used

Match prep
There is no focus area that i crucial for the flow of the tactic. If you face a team that are great at set pieces and might focus on attacking set pieces as their only chance, use defensive set pieces. If up against a team you know are going to play really deep and compact BUT have poor attackers, then use attacking movement. If up against a team with really pacey and agile FCs, then use defensive positioning etc etc. Naturally, I use Team Work on a heavy workload in preseason but remember that when using a focus area that relates to the match plan ( like def positioning), the workload have no impact what so ever.

Pitch Size
That would depend on the players. Looking at the tactic and the circumstance, and you will see the following

  • -Close down heavily: Meaning that the bigger pitch, in theory the bigger area to close down. So teams with players lacking in stamina would prefer a smaller pitch.
  • Focus the play down the flanks: Ifthe pitch is really narrow, the wingers will struggle to find space out wide. This will result in that once the ball is played into channels out wide, the more narrow the pitch is, the harder it is to play it into an area not already flooded by players.
  • - Its a tactic for top teams, hence opponents are likely to sit deep and flood the midfield, perhaps trying to play balls over the top of our defenders: Here, a really short pitch means that if we have slow defenders or face really pacey attackers, the opponent will have a harder time putting those balls over the top. A short pitch will also make the center of the park congested, making it harder for the opponent to boss their flooded midfield, playing cautious triangles. If we on the other hand have really pacey defenders and all players have great stamina, its sometimes great to let the opponent put one of these balls over the top so that they push up their team. As in this scenario, our defenders will get to it first, we can now launch a dangerous counterattack. So here, a long pitch will be really good

So, in short..if uncertain about the players and how the opponents are likely to play against you, I would suggest that you go for a standard pitch and if wanting to increase something, then try to get it slightly wider

    (Apart from this version, I
have uploaded ( the same download link) 2 more versions that are rather different from ths presented one. They use 2 DMCs and one MC in midfield. They use a lower mentality system, a deeper d-line and we play much more direct. Here, we also focus they through the middle. One version is called Agressiv Counter and one Lower press and both is found in the same rarfile. So far, I have only tried them with top teams but as they are meant for underdogs, I will have a go with Wigan and see what the results will be)
