The Celtic Match Thread

But you arent the team of the last 10 years. Getting behind your team doesnt mean ignoring the circumstances...

Circumstances say its pretty likely you'll finish bottom.
I believe the squad of players we have currently is better than the squad that went out and beat the likes of Man Utd, AC, and Benfica. We've beaten many top teams at Celtic Park (with some of the worst players i've seen in the hoops), and we'll continue to do so aslong as we're playing European football.

I don't think we'll go through, but saying 'No' from the get-go isn't the right way to go about things. No matter how much of a Pessimist you try to be. Either way, win lose or draw, i'll be there to the bitter end.

Great 4-0 win today, Forrest is coming of age and was phenomenal.

I believe we are considerably better than Rennes. Our team may not be as good as the team that beat United, Milan, Juve etc. but A. Madrid and Udinese are not as good as the United, Milan, Juve etc. teams..

As Jan said, im not saying we will get through, but we defiantly have a reasonable chance if we play to the best of our abilities
I have to disagree with the Rennes one. I just don't see us going through at all, to be honest. I just have no confidence in our European abilities anymore.

In the past 10 years we have beaten the following.

Ajax
Man Utd
Liverpool
Benfica
AC Milan
Boavista
Juventus

The list goes on, and these 10 years transcended almost 3 different teams. Now, i'm not saying we're going to go out and win every game, or even go through for that matter.. but you should stop being so **** negative and get behind and support your team.

God, I do hate it when people see being realistic as 'not supporting your team'. It's time we stopped living in the past. Larsson, Sutton, Petrov and co are gone. We are no longer a European-class side and won't be for some years to come, imo. It's time you dragged yourself out of the past.

Islam Feruz's agent says he is to join Chelsea - Feruz agrees Chelsea deal | Sky Sports | Football | Scottish Premier | News

Hearing the comp is only going to be 300k which is a joke, considering how highly rated he is.

Celtic should sue Chelsea for tapping him up.
Im not going to judge him too much as he has came from a rough background and may need the money for him family but imo he should have played for a few years with us after all the club and Tommy Burns done for him :S

I blame his agent :p It's a disgrace after all celtic have done for him !

"Gonna watch 1st half of Celtic. Rangers. Come on the hoops."
"Hooper. What a finish. Get in"
"Get in 1 2. Come on the hoops"

I have a new-found level of respect for Wayne Rooney.

game over. Celtic 4-2 down. dear o dear

Embarrassing display at times but what is even worse is the turncoats on the Celtic forums. Last week K.Wilson was our best centre half now he is a useless ****.
Even some jokers saying Lennon should be out.

I was surprised by the team, Ledley should have started.
Rangers deserved the win as we where poor, personally I still think we will do the treble over them.

Forster - 6, made some desent stops but was as expected terrible under the cross and maybe could have done better for the 3rd Rangers goal.
Wilson - 6, got forward well but was very meh in defence.
Loovens - 7, was very calm and did well imo. Should provide a lot of competition for the tow center back spots and Lenny will have a tough decision when Mulgrew comes back.
Wilson - 5, very poor game but I would still have him as a starting cb.
El Kaddouri - 7, Got forward well and has a decent cross but his lack of strength and height was unfortunate for us today.
Brown - 8, very good display from the skipper and the game was well and truly over when he went off injured. Brilliant assit for the first goal.
Kayal - 6, poor game by his standards.
Ki - 6, poor game by his standards, couldnt get forward enough.
Mulgrew - 7, played well until the sending off. Cant complain about it if the second yellow was for the one tackle but if it was for continuous fouls then he was unlucky as Thompson blew him 3+ times when he took the ball.
Sammy - 6, meh.
Hooper - 7, good finish but he didnt get many chances.
Stokes - 5, didnt get much time but he didnt look on his game.
Bangura - 4, very very limited time but if this kid is serious about moving onto bigger things then he needs to to well here first.
Forrest - 5, didnt get much time.

McGregor - 6, lucky his blunder didnt cause them the game but rather than lose his confidence he remained calm (probably helped by us not testing him)
Whittaker - 6, did his job defensively but didnt contribute much attacking wise.
Goian - 2, he is a ****.
Bocca - 8, good signing, he was solid.
Papac - Same as Whittaker.
Naismith - 6, He is a **** but he played well when on his feet.
Edu - 4, he was playing?
Davis - 7, controled the middle due to none of the other cms on the pitch showing up.
Wylde - 7, got some good balls in, I expect him to move in January.
Laugherty - 6, missed some sitters, had to take some of the chances eventually.
Jelavic - 7, he was okay but could have been better.
Elbows - 5, no time to do anything.
Healy - 1, ****.

Today we held a silent and visual protest against the criminalisation of the Celtic support, both from the ‘Offensive Behaviour at Football...’ Bill and the disproportionate policing that we and the wider Celtic support currently face.

While the new legislation will likely have a direct effect on our group – particularly as the Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland are demanding that it specifically refers to banners and displays – it extends beyond just us and all Celtic fans will be affected.

The proposed new legislation denies football fans the right to freedom of expression and treats us all completely differently from others in society. This is despite there being very little disorder at football matches – and certainly far less than at music concerts or at bars and clubs around the country.

It comes on the back of a season when our manager was attacked by bigots because he comes from an Irish nationalist background. The response of the politicians has been to draft a law that, according to Justice Committee chair Christine Graham, is designed to target the Celtic support for our Irish identity and for singing songs in support of Irish nationhood. It looks like the bigots have won.

The protest was a massive step for our group to take. We want nothing more than to back our team for 90 mins and give them our support, especially on the back of defeat at Ibrox last week. But we feel this issue goes far beyond one half of football and that if the Celtic support doesn’t begin to influence the debate around policing and the new law then we, like many other Celtic fans won’t be there to support the team – we’ll be banned and possibly jailed.

In many ways, though, this is already happening. We currently have three members awaiting trial for ‘offences’ committed at the first game of last season. Their alleged crime was holding a a banner that, days later, bigoted elements of the Scotland's Shame support complained about after seeing on the internet. The case has been doggedly pursued by the Procurator Fiscal, who has appointed a Fiscal more used to murder trials to take charge of the prosecution. We’ve also had members and others in section 111 arrested on made-up charges and instantly banned from every game in Scotland while their case drags on through the legal system - the police don’t even need to consult the courts to do this now.

At every match we’re filmed constantly and subjected to petty intimidation, like strange police officers greeting you by your first name. And it’s not just us - at every away match the police are filming fans coming off buses, in pubs and at stadiums and fans are given full-body searches at grounds. At the recent home game with Motherwell a fan was arrested and dragged out of the main stand by several police officers for singing ‘go home ya huns’. Fans arriving home from Sion in the early hours of the morning were greeted by a welcoming party from Strathclyde Police, there to say hello and take their pictures.

The time has now come for our club to stand up for our fans and use their considerable influence and voice to defend us from disproportionate policing and discriminatory new laws. It is also time for the support to come together and oppose policing and laws that seeks to silence us and treat us as part of a problem that, if it exists, is not of our making.

We won’t roll over to a political agenda that seeks to criminalise us and we call on all fans and fan organisations to join us and protest against the criminalisation of the Celtic support.

I seen the bill and, honestly, seen nothing that discriminates against Celtic fans at all. :|

It's not about merely singing "IRA Chants" it's also due to certain addons on the songs which are being sung.

But singing Pro IRA songs is still deemed "Sectarian" for many reasons...

Singing about terrorist groups who have openly admited "ethnic cleansing" of a particular religious group is and always will be deemed sectarian no matter how you dress it.

This bill is a snow ball effect from the days when celtic fans petiotioned to ban "The Billy Boys" being sung.

Now going against the bill is contradicting the bill and backtracking from the original protest over the billy boys being sung.

You can't have both and Celtic FC started protesting it. This is what is happening due to that protest.

Do i have any greivance of Celtic fans singing these songs? No it's only songs and does not harm anyone but People should have realised this would have been the outcome when they start demanding things be banned.

TBH, while there a few idiots who shout out IRA at the games, most people won't sing that. But this sounds like the bill will target songs like the soldier song (irish national anthem) and the fields of athenry (even liverpool fans sing that), which are in no way sectarian or anything to do with terrorism - whereas throughout the scottish game from hearts fans, killie fans, rangers fans etc all sing sectarian songs like the billy boys and the sash that my father wore, and nothing is said...

That is bullshit right there mate. If the IRA is sectarian the the British queen supported and honored sectarianism.
The British Queen also acknowledged that the IRA where not terrorists, but actually freedom fighters.
To say the IRA is wanted to get rid of protestants is stupid, many of the leading members where Protestant. There may have been a few uneducated idiots that went out to kill protestants but the organisation didnt, the British army was the same yet you dont see me calling the British army sectarian or accusing them of promoting ethnic cleansing.

Yes it is.

No it isn't. It's political but it is NOT sectarian - there's a difference. Just like the term for Rangers fans "huns" is not sectarian.

If songs that contain the term IRA (Boys Of The Old Brigade for example) is deemed as sectarian then Flower of Scotland and God Save The Queen must also be, by definition, sectarian as well because how can Boys Of The Old Brigade be sectarian just because the word IRA is in it but songs like the others I have mentioned NOT be sectarian? Double standards.
