Chelsea fan

I have been a blues fan, way back since we played in the college yard, and I picked up the nickname Chelsea, because I played as badly as they did, before the Russian came in, before the money, when all we had was spirit, and I would go to watch the odd game (I'm not from London), stay at the Jurys Inn and go watch the team take a hiding, then go celebrate the loss, not because they lost, but because we got to see them live.

I suspect the best way if we wanted to accomodate Torres now would be to play a Xmas tree with Benayoun and another behind Torres with Essien, Lampard and Ramires in midfield.

I agree 100%, two attacking mids behind Torres feeding him through balls would be lethal. I'd love to see a Xmas tree formation in the Prem. But do you really think Benayoun is starting quality for Chelsea? IMO if you wanted to have this formation you would need to bring in two top class attacking mids (Pastore and Ganso would be great, what a combo that would be, especially in FM:)), three if Malouda leaves.

Also, would an Xmas tree work in the Prem, the fastest league in the world? Wouldn't it get exposed for a lack of width? It works in Italy, but in England?

Not sure it would, the formation deployed in the CL 2nd leg was actually an xmas tree shape. And as you say its weak against width, and there is plently of that in the PL, or La Liga for that matter. In fact it would only really work in italy where there pretty much all play narrow (the fact that Napoli are one of the few who dont play narrow is part or reason they have been so successful this season)

At the moment i would say Yossi i worth a starting place. In the future i would like to see both Sturridge and maybe Neymar behind Torres.

It can work if you have players that come out wide and have very strong full backs. We will have Ivanovic at right back he is more than a match for any winger/fullback in the world and at the moment we have Cole on the left who can cope with anyone in the world. Plus like i say if we play 3 in the middle then Ramires can play out wide and genuinly does find himself out wide helping out our fullbacks so i think it could definatly work.

it didnt work in the CL game, christmas trees dont work well in leagues with high tempo and width, even hiddink and scolari sacked that idea off with chelsea

Well im a believer that most formations can work if you have the right players and right set-up. Hiddink came in and used a 4-3-3 straight off and at the time i was what we needed.

it doesnt always work that way. 4-3-3 works here becuase it combines 3 man mids (superior against mst sides playing 4-4-2) and width. 4-3-2-1 leaves to very narrow, even with the Carrileros drifting wide. Very difficult to get right in a league like the prem.

I think you'll find i said when he wasnt scoring he wasent tracking back and looked lazy.

Well, Torres work rate is not better either. Berba was creating lot of chances but still he was labelled flop and you had a long argument on how he is not United quality player as he is not scoring which was how you rated strikers. Now you have changed the tune ;)

I havent changed my tune at all. Like i say i believe hes work rate has been good which it the least we ask off him if he isent scoring goals.

Does Anyone Know A Good Chelsea Tactic Because Im Having Problems With My Chelsea Save
CFC 4 LIFE

but the point remains, Berba was creating chances for other striker, torres isnt, and you still said Berba had to score goal( his job) and that is wasnt Utd quality because he wasnt, Unless off course you are accepting chelsea arent a big club like utd, and can have strikers who dont score, creat but run around like a headless chicken?

Norwood tore Chelsea reserves into new one with Scholesque passes. United reserves won 4-1.

Yer i saw abit of the game. We gave 4-5 debuts to new players i believe. The youth cup is where its at.

meh Both mean very little... The fact Norwood tore any side to shed, signal how worthless the reserve and youth standing really are.

Thats very harsh on Norwood. I have seen a lot of reserves games, have to say I'm very impressed with him recently. He has stepped up big time. Those passes are not good passes. Those are excellent with backspin which makes attacker so easy to collect the ball. His passing range is really class.

Who was he on loan at, some stage this season or lost, He looked like a headless chicken, too me another one for the scrap heap.

Well that depends on how you look at it as a individual. The reserves games are more competitive this season as they restructured the leagues but its still a mix between players that arnt good enough for the first team but are too old for the youth side. As for the youth teams i find that very important and take alot of intrest in both club and country youth games.

but the top players at both standard will be out on loan... So it means very little

Not nessicerily, some times clubs feel they are better suited at the club rather than going out on loan. It all depends on the individial.

So the one club who keeps there players dominate, meaning you dont get a true reflection on the best reserves/ youths.
