pretty chuffed with Meireles, we needed another decent centre-midfielder and he worked with AVB for 1 month before he left to Liverpool

Mereiles hardly played in more advanced positions, apart from maybe 3 or 4 games, he was either shunted out on the wing, or used centrally.

Meireles didnt even come close to Modric last season. Modric outperformed him on pass completion, accuracy, key passes, ball possession (not losing it in the tackle) tackles per game, and interceptions, and he was far more consistent

Alright, so you've proved me wrong. I still wouldn't play down what a good signing Mereiles is for Chelsea.

Lol, 'Meireles was better than Modric last season because the stats say so' - brilliant.

Wow, fantastic input. So incisive and helpful.

he is a good signing no doubt about that, just not on modric's level. Shouldnt have been sold by liverpool after they got rid of Aquilani

I'd say they're different kind of players, so you can't really compare them. (I say this after losing at comparing them).

Kenny obviously feels we don't need him. We needed Aquilani though.

Delighted with Meireles, massive fan but I hope he doesn't have the ex-Liverpool player curse at Chelsea..

Can anyone please show me a stat showing Mereiles had more goals than Modric, And that modric's pass completion was more than Meireles'???

im asking because i cant find any site which shows me the stats.. it would help greatly to debate with others with the stats as a tool.
Thanks !

Raul Meireles scored five goals to Modric's three last year, whereas Modric's pass completion stats are 87%, compared to Meireles 78%.

Stats off Whoscored.

Suspect there is one more signing to come.

Meirelese is not Modric but for the price of him I'm very happy, really rate him.

Him + Aquilani were very under rated at Liverpool, I would have preferred Alberto but Raul is a brilliant signing. Just what the midfield needs.

Only awkward thing is Meireles was the guy AVB sold to bring in Moutinho, could be awkward at first I suppose.

Still think there is one more signing to come, watch this space.

how long should i watch this space?

You can stop watching this space...

I apologised this morning, bit of a false alarm, Chelsea bid around £6m for Maxwell of Barcelona at 6pm last night but Barcelona essentially said no partly because they were concerned about the fact that if it didn't go through then it would have a bad effect on the training ground. Surprised Chelsea launched a bid for Maxwell especially so late, I'm presuming that Bertrand going out on loan may be cancelled now...

Also Lucas Piazon arrives at Cobham next week to begin training with Chelsea, noises are that he could well get a chance in the first team squad early next year if he impresses.

Meireles/Mata should help Torres score and I suspect a massive auction for Ganso will dominate the January window, expecting Chelsea/AC Milan to be front runners.

And I know I could get jumped on but come January I suspect alot of different noises about Manchester United and the need for a central playmaker. Would not surprise me if they go in for Ganso because he will dominate that January window no doubt about it.

Why you so sure Ganso will be on the move in January?

A player I'd love Liverpool to go for, can't see it happening somehow.

Alot of reasons, only reason he's still at Santos now is the Club world cup in December. Also he wants to leave, AC Milan are in the front seat for him but Chelsea are their main contenders. Those two have been working on him for months, building a relationship with Santos and the players management company.

Fee will be around £40m if I had to put out an educated guess, I think Chelsea/AC Milan will be his destination.

You don't need him anyway you have Henderson, he's going to be fairly decent. Tore Azerbaijan apart tonight.

Henderson could be fairly decent, Ganso will be world class.

Like I said, never going to happen.

I am hoping Piazon can play a part this season, from what I have seen of him he is a major creative force and there are shades of a certain Kaka of him... him and McEachran can so easily fill the massive creative hole in our midfield this season if they get going

The only thing similar with Piazon and Kaka is their looks. Piazon's playing style is totally different. I don't think he's ready yet, I'd give him a season or two to adapt.

Josh however, I'd start giving him more PL starts.

I'd quite like to see McEachran playing some games. About time Chelsea started looking to ease Lampard out of the team, and their reliance upon his midfield goals.

Terry next.

Main reason why McEachran was not sent out on loan is because AVB assured him he will get sufficient games this season however with out club you never know... so I am catiously optimistic

Don't know whether you've all seen it or not, but the Champions League squad has been announced. Lukaku's missed out because we needed to put Ferreira in for cover at lb/rb. Bertrand couldn't be put in the squad because he doesn't count as a locally trained player, and we needed to leave three spaces for locally trained players. Stupid rules by UEFA really, which needs re-thinking imo - preventing younger players from getting a chance in the CL.

The squad: Cech, Hilario, Turnbull; Ivanovic, Cole, Luiz, Bosingwa, Ferreira, Terry, Alex; Romeu, Ramires, Lampard, Mikel, Malouda, Meireles, Mata; Torres, Drogba, Kalou, Sturridge, Anelka.

McEachran, Chalobah, Mellis etc. don't need to be registered to the 'a list' because they can be registered on the 'b list'.
