Don't forget Leverkusen on Tuesday, I would bet Torres and Mata will start.

first half looked very promising, cant wait for tuesday now!
hopefully we start with a front three of mata, torres and sturridge.

Poor defending for Sunderland's goal, should have been at least 4-0 really. So frustrating watching Torres get in positions and players taking too long to pass it to him or playing the wrong sort of pass. Don't have a clue what Torres was doing in that final minute when it was 3 on 1 though, terrible pass.

Meireles - 97 touches, 80 passes, 90% completion, 7 long balls, 2 through balls, 4 key passes, 4 interceptions.

Malouda kills the tempo every time, would rather we loaned him to Bolton and kept Kakuta...

Nothing against Malouda but he is just greedy... plain and simple and he just does not have the awareness or vision to ever be a creator, I am fine with him taking shots but not at the expense of better options

Anyways my take on the game... thought we were fantastic in the first half but after our 2nd goal our tempo dropped and that eventually cost us in the end, thought Sturridge was fantastic, his work rate was very good and his goal was well taken, very happy AVB is showing faith in him and starting him

Anelka was good today, thought he made good runs and he may well be worth keeping for some more time

Mata was one of our best players today.. a very good performance from him

Thought Meirless was very neat and tidy throughout the game and hardly put a foot wrong, I am interested to see how he can contribute if played in a more attacking position though

And I agree with Jamie on Iva, considering the high line we are playing, I much rather have Luiz in for Iva at CB, his concentration is not good enough tbh and I prefer Iva to be rotated with Bosingwa in the RB position as he is more defensively-orientated compared to Bosingwa and he will do nicely in the big games against the likes of Nani/Young/Valencia

Very pleased with the performance and result today, i hope the people who slated Meireles are starting to eat humble pie. Yes it was his first game but he was very impressive indeed and ended with a fantastic assist. Typical Terry goal and technicly he is sensational and dosent get the credit for that. Goal of the game by a country mile was Sturridge, what a cheeky goal and he actually scored a goal just like that in training in a 5aside game so yes it was straight off the training ground. Im quite happy with the media leaving us alone and just thinking the two Manchester clubs will compete for the title this season because we will make them look stupid.

Also just to add i ******* hope the FA get involved with the Bardsley stamp on Mata, that was not needed at all and looked intentional.

I liked the shape of the midfield, I think that Ramires needs to eventually grow into some sort of DM competent player because I think he will be asked to play there quite alot in his Chelsea career. He certainly has the attributes and I think the only question is whether or not he has the discipline to play the role.

But again the front 3 let me down personally, it was the same tired/untechnical/disjointed linkup play between the front 3. Anelka I understand because he's never really been brilliant at link up and is (Well in my opinion was) a sensational goal scorer who played on the shoulder and found space, he's not so good at making space for others. Sturridge was isolated at times but did what his job entailed, he cut inside when possible and had a few shots at goal and passed when he saw the pass. But the 3 of them (1st half) looked like they were singing of different hymn sheets to one another.

I would have lined up Torres ST, Mata LW and Sturridge RW (Only starter missing you notice being Anelka) and told Torres to stay forward and available for the ball to feet (No need for him to come deep as he has had to/tried to do since he arrived due to the fact that Mata is there). That would improve Torres' game no end knowing that Mata will move inbetween the lines when he can therefore there is a direct linkup from midfield to front 3. Sturridge needs to learn that he needs to come deep sometimes and show some movement but he's still adapting to the right wing so that naivety at times is understandable. Cole provided alot of width as did Bosingwa so I can not really fault those 2. Lampard/Meireles played fine, they seem to be on the same wave length. But again the same old culprits for killing the tempo - Anelka/Malouda. The second Malouda came on the tempo down in the final third dropped and every time Anelka touched the ball the attack seemed to go backwards/sidewards. Them 2 should not be getting close to the starting lineup in my opinion.

But it was a solid midfield display and the defenders on a whole played well (Couple of shaky offside trap moments), just disappointed in Malouda/Anelka playing large parts of the game...I would go so far to say they wouldn't get in my matchday 18.

Hoping for a season kickstarting display versus Leverkusen with Mata/Torres/Sturridge as a front 3.

Too slow, too slow. If AVB wants his game Anelka, Kalou, Malouda should not be playing this season.

Delighted that Sturridge got a goal in his first appearance of the season :D AVB should start him at old Trafford imo.

So ****** off with MOTD, they **** all over the two Manchester clubs win but all they talk bout when Chelsea win is ******* Torres!!!! Bring back The Premier!!!!!

whats with that Torres interview??

Well Chelsea have asked for the full interview to see if anything was lost in translation. They published that he said some of the older players at Chelsea were too slow. If thats the case and he did say that then he will recieve a fine from Chelsea and do his reputation from the Chelsea fans who me being one has been very loyal towards him regardless no good at all.

On the Sturridge goal, it was a good ball by Meireles and a very good display of technique by Sturridge, but in all honesty I think it's actually an OG - the ball bounces off the post and it's the defender (I think it's Wes Brown) who ends up putting it in the back of the net.

Not that I'm complaining, though.

I had that thought too but the the ball hit the post and was going in anyway so does that make a difference.

Fernando Torres
was being questioned on Monday by Chelsea over an interview in which he appeared to criticise his own team-mates.
The centre-forward spoke to the official website of the Spanish league last week, with an English translation later appearing on the player's personal website. Torres, who has endured a dreadful run in front of goal since his £50m transfer from Liverpool, was quoted as criticising Chelsea's "older" players as "very slow", and describing his new team-mate Juan Mata as a necessary signing.

André Villas-Boas, the Chelsea manager, sought an explanation from Torres, who claimed his words were not translated accurately on his own website. Chelsea are trying to obtain a copy of the interview in its original Spanish and Villas-Boas revealed he would warn Torres not to speak so candidly about the club in future if the translation did stand up.

"We are going in-depth to regain the tape of that interview," Villas-Boas said. "We'll see if things play exactly as they are in that interview."
Torres's website also carries the Spanish version of the interview in which he says the type of player Chelsea have "juega muy lento", literally "play very slowly".
The interview was authorised by Chelsea, otherwise Torres would have been facing a fine. But when asked what action would be taken if the translation proved accurate, the Blues manager said: "We'd just talk. Just talk. To share opinion. If it was unauthorised, I'd fine him. Of course. Anyhow, it's one player's perspective.

"I don't think it's a perspective that the manager shares. I don't have to share my players' ideas sometimes. I think we have competence, apart from the 'age problem', which for me is not a problem. Maybe we just have to speak about that situation and he has to see our view as well."
Torres's struggles show no sign of abating – the 27-year-old lost his place in the side for Saturday's win at Sunderland, having failed even to make the bench for Spain's European Championship qualifier against Liechtenstein.

Villas-Boas did not offer Torres an explanation, having admitted 48 hours earlier that he would not hesitate to drop the striker if it benefited the team.
"I just made the changes," said Villas-Boas on Monday as he decided whether to recall Torres for tomorrow's Champions League opener against Bayer Leverkusen.
"I think any player who's not part of the squad or the selected players is not happy. I'm glad because maybe you can stimulate them to go one step further, or motivate them a bit more."

That translation sounds to me like he's saying "Our style of play is very slow", which is not only true but not insulting. Sounds like something the media have seized, twisted and used as a weapon against Torres, as if they need another one.

which is why i bolded it. He's actually bang on about their play and Mata being necessary

actually he is **** right about that.. and i for one wouldnt be mad if he actually said that.. Lampard is the slowest player weve got, and he(Torres) is supposed to be getting passes exactly from Lampard.. and its not just Lampard.. so yea, he is right. and im not mad about that.
he will be fined though, cuz commenting his teammates like that is unacceptable.
