Except Bentekkers didn't get what he wanted because Lambert went all scary Glaswegian on him.

It would be hilarious on a personal level just to see some GodCubed tears if it happened. Benteke signs a contract then strolls off to Chelsea in the same transfer window.

@Tyton. I think he will last 5 years but if not will all the players skill disappear... I think not

The manager who never last more then 3 years anywhere, is going to last 5 years in a club that goes through 1.5 managers a season?

Error: does not compute.

Is there, whom? For an experienced player...

Rooney 35+m
Suarez 50+m
Drogba (unlikely)
As for Benteke, I would love him to add to ur growing Belgian contingent but I seems he's fine at Villa. He'd be reasonably priced as well. About 13-18 million
Experience doesn't make the world go round, you know. Benteke was valued at £20 million+ before his contract extension, he'd cost a fair bit more now. But just because other players are not available, doesn't mean you should splash the cash needlessly (à la Torres).

Lewandowski, Suarez, Rooney, Diego Costa, Bafetimbi Gomis, Pablo Osvaldo, Luis Muriel, Anthony Modeste, Fabio Quagliarella, Adam Szalai, Max Kruse, ****, even Andre-Pierre Gignac. Eto'o simply isn't worth the huge wages he'd command.

1) ON A PERSONAL LEVEL? Ouch! :P

2) After his new contract he's likely to be worth like £45 million or something ridiculous. Bid away, Roman!

Yeh..... think that came out slightly wrong... but you're laughing at United's exceptional midfield so you deserve it.

Most of these players are very average, not available (Lewandowski), or have only just moved clubs this summer.

I'd really like to hear from someone who watches Russian football regularly for a clearer picture of his ability at the moment, and not just judging on the use of statistics.

Lewandowski could well be available. Dortmund don't need him, but they also don't want to sell to Bayern. The only two there that have moved this summer are Kruse and Szalai, so knock them off the list.

Maybe some are average, but no more so than Eto'o. Moreover, they're all cheaper in terms of wages and younger.

I watch Russian football regularly. Eto'o is a good player, but he's increasingly slipping into his usual prima donna mindset. He's being treated as a star, and frankly that never bodes well for his team. A move to Chelsea might change that, but it can't reverse a totally understandable decline in his physical ability.

Problem with Lewa is that he is rejecting everyone apart from Bayern atm, so bit of a weird impasse.

Yeah, that's a funny one. His composure might break down a little after a season on the bench though.

Dortmund don't really want to sell either. Lewandowski is on hilariously low contract. Its actually less expensive to keep him for one more year, rather then offload him for peanuts and bring high-profile replacement that will demand huge wages.

Lewandowski- wont come
Suarez- Liverpool won't sell/ expensive
Rooney- We've tried and failed
Diego Costa- Just because LFC are interested doesn't make him a good player, and he wouldn't suit our game, we need someone a bit more potent than having 16 goals in 59 games.
Gomis- Not good enough
Osvaldo- Not good enough
Muriel- Not a number 9
Modeste- Not good enough
Quagliarella- Not good enough
Szalai- Not good enough
Kruse- ""
We need a number 9 striker who will play for us in the next 3 years. Not someone young with potential because we have Lukaku

@Tyton- Yes that's what I expect and I think that's what JM and RA want as well

Are you assuming these players aren't good enough on the basis that they aren't 'big names'?

All of those players I listed there are, I feel, as good as Eto'o is now. Moreover, they're all harder working, younger, and critically take lower wages (and apart from Suarez and Rooney, massively so). I don't see why, for example, Pablo Osvaldo is apparently not good enough, despite the fact that he played better, scored more and is on lower wages than Eto'o, AND is looking for a move this summer, AND is at his peak and not on a rather steep decline like Eto'o. This weird obsession with ruling out everyone who isn't Samuel Eto'o on grounds of increasingly shaky reasons is ridiculous.

If I remember correctly I think I heard that Osvaldo has a **** of an ego on him. Would rather he didn't come, despite his obvious talent

Bear in mind this is in comparison to SAMUEL ETO'O, a man who demanded he not only captain his country but refused to be played anywhere other than striker because he believed that none of his teammates were good enough. There are few with egos the size of Eto'o's.

"I am among the best players in the world and Song is not even among the best players in Cameroon." - Eto'o
