At what he offers yes, but not at what he/they offer the team in general then not a chance. Sensational footballer without a doubt not denying that, but as we have seen i'd rather Oscar and Hazard any day of the week. Offer far far more and in my opinion Hazard could become something really special.

Depends on what team it is. In terms of Chelsea, maybe not. Regardless of what Hazard might become, there can be no denying that at the moment Mata is still a superior player to him and particularly Oscar, who's been no great shakes creatively this season.

There's a huuuuuuuge amount of trying to downplay Mata in this thread, and funny to me though it is, the sooner everyone stops doing it the sooner we can all move on. Otherwise everyone's just going to keep taking the ****; justifiably so, I'd say!

Oscar hasn't looked anything special to me this season... for CJacko to compared him to Mata is ludicrous and very amusing.

Oscar's a very good player with a bright future. You don't get to be Brazil's number 10 if you're just any old mug, after all.

He isn't as talented creatively as Mata, but he's a much more natural worker. In the future he could well surpass Mata, being a more rounded player, but at the moment he isn't.

Much as we shouldn't downplay Mata, we shouldn't be downplaying Oscar. Chelsea have a very talented set of attacking midfielders that won't be significantly weaker without Mata at all.

Not saying Oscar isn't talented with potential... blah blah. But I just haven't been that impressed with him this season.. hasn't really done anything that made me think.... WOW. But what you say is fair point.

I have to disagree though, losing Mata is a huge blow, Jose Mourinho has treated him like a broken toy and if you don't see the effects straight away, certainly will over a period of time. Have you seen the chances he's created over the last 2 seasons? Unbelievable.

Certainly isn't a huge blow to Chelsea, let's not be silly. They were hardly playing him, how could he be a huge blow?

It isn't a huge blow for Chelsea, but it could be a huge boost for United. Two very different things, albeit with relatively similar results.

Only because Jose has decided that he didn't want to use him, like I said earlier, treated him like a broken toy. His stats over the last 2 seasons have been amazing, any team will hugely miss that. Like I say.... it will be a huge blow, what happens if one of them 3 get injured? You just can't under-estimate what Mata done for Chelsea and what he provided over the last 2 seasons. The way Jose has gone about this, has been very bad for Chelsea, not only has he just forced Mata out, best Chelsea player he's also given him to United, which is the funniest thing of all, because we desperately needed a boost/helping hand.

Oscar is certainly fantastic player from managers point of view but as fan the opportunity to see Mata feeding passes to proper striker for a change - major *****.

Yeh but all of a sudden Jose has opened himself up for a lot of criticism, if the season goes wrong.... no doubt people will point to this moment. I really don't understand this move... usually he has a reason behind everything... but this to my mind only benefits United well and truely. Couldn't be happier as a United fan though, we should try our luck with Ramires.. could do with a mobile CM.

What? No. That's not how it works.

If the team was hardly using him he's not going to be "hugely missed", don't be ******* silly. He'd only be missed if this season he was tearing **** up, which he decidedly hasn't been. **** the last two seasons, what he's done in the past is essentially irrelevant to this discussion since Chelsea are under a completely different manager and playing a completely different way.

You could argue that JOSE NOT USING HIM was a massive blow to Chelsea, which is debateable, but Mata himself leaving is not a big problem to Chelsea. It really isn't, I'm sorry. I know you want to gleefully hold this above every Chelsea fan's head more than you're already doing but this is just ludicrous.

And frankly, I think we'd best leave all of the "LOL JOSE HAS BEN SO **** FUR CHESLEA :))))" comments for now. He knows what he's doing, to put it mildly. I'd imagine he has something up his sleeve for the coming seasons.

As much as I loath this move, I trust Jose. His record speaks for himself. Enough said

And more often than not, Jose has been proven right. I can't see much merit in the move myself but as GC said, Jose has something up his sleeve. Summer will be very interesting. Jose promised us 2 quality signings on par with Ozil's move to Arsenal and with the Mata money, I can't imagine why that will change. This season was all about consolidation. Next season we will be a force

Jose not using him was my point of it being a huge blow, the fact that he has left doesn't change my mind. I just think he's disregarded him too easily.

In terms of ability right now Mata is better than both of them at what he does. Easily.

I don't think anyone denies that. But him leaving isn't a blow to us as he wasn't being used ... In our current system, Hazard/Oscar are our best players. Mata is best in ability overall even if his all-round game is less rounded than Oscar

I actually dread to think what the Mata money plus Abramovich's chequebook can come up with. Chelsea's signings recently have almost all been very solid, and the problem area of CM has been solved and then some with Matic. Splash out in the summer on a top quality striker and Chelsea might well have the best starting 11 in the league.

Summary of your last week:

Telling us United would struggle to attract the top players without the guarantee of CL football.
We sign your best, and favourite player, while sat in 7th.

Telling us that there's NO WAY Chelsea would even consider it unless Rooney was going the other way.
Looks like Rooney's getting a new contract

Now, despite Rooney being the only possible thing that could ever make the Mata sale acceptable in your eyes, you suddenly don't want him, and try and twist it to make United look weak, a-la point 1.

You must have nearly made it to the other side of the world with all this digging you're doing.

1. I never said they would struggle. It would be more difficult for them as it would for any club whether you like it or not

2. Well done on signing him, the only reason you ever got him in the first place was because you were in 7th. You honestly think we would have sold him if Arsenal or City came in? Real title contenders this season. No way

3. Yes and I had very strong reasons for believing so and whether you like it or not, this sale goes against common sense from Chelsea's perspective

4. I love Rooney but I don't want him on 300k p/w for five years on top of a transfer fee. Do you want Messi? Yes I am sure you do. Do you want him on 500k p/w for five years on top of a transfer fee? I think not

And yes this does make United look weak. I don't see how you can twist this into anything else

City's starting 11 would still be better. Main difference is that ours would be much younger. Best young keeper in the world in Courtois and best young striker in the world in Lukaku yet to join. With Mourinho at the helm backed by Roman's billions, we could well be on our way to becoming a truly dominant European force like we were in Jose's first reign as long as we don't do anything majorly stupid like sacking Jose
