I vote for Wenger mainly because I want to see you do a Japanese team.

OK guys - it seems its pretty much between these two here - i've gone for Shankly with my vote but if Clough gets more votes than him i'll happily emulate his career. Both legends in their own right, not to mention thoroughly interesting and i'm already really excited about this story :D

I Would say make your decision tomorrow night, Europa league final with have my attention, Come on the fulham :D

Good luck with whoever you choose. For the record I voted Herbert Chapman. I like the idea of starting with really low club. It'll be a good challenge

You have until tomorrow morning to vote on who you would like to see me follow. At around 9am i shall take a look at the polls and start because otherwise people will lose interest and will become increasingly bored of it (let's hope not.)

OK people - Clough has the majority - there'll be no coalition and we'll start low at Hartlepool United (formerly known as Hartlepools Utd) down in League one (just- having accumulated just enough points - 1 more than Northampton to stay up).
But before i begin - i want to explain that i would love to both emulate Clough's career and his football tactics - having found an article on wikipedia and downloaded JP Woody's tactics i'll try and do as much of this as i can - I also considered making a whole new database specifically for this story - with players such as Billy Bremner at Leeds and Roy McFarland - but unfortunately abandoned this idea as time-consuming and very difficult.
As it is i have decided simply to follow the career path of the "Greatest manager England never had" and trying to achieve his glory and success as well as perhaps recreating his cheeky working class northerner attitude in press conferences ;).

I hope you follow and enjoy!

more updates coming on Wednesday probably as i have a ******* exam tomorrow! In fact i may not be able to update too regularly as i have a string of AS exams that i need to work towards but i'll try my best for those of you lucky enough not to have any exams this year!

Good choice there mate. So, can I safely assume if Leeds offer you a job you'll resign after 44 days?

haha i guess so yeah! - i wonder what i'll do if England offer me a job... Did Clough actually officially put his name forward for it or was it just that everyone assumed he'd be a good choice?

Yeah but Bobby Robson was given the job instead. Then England failed under Robson and he offered to resign for Clough but the FA said no. I don't think they liked his management style, yet if he was around today he would be England manager no doubt.

The Independent said:
He was for many football fans "the best manager England never had", a no–nonsense northerner with exacting standards and a supreme confidence in his own abilities.

But it may have been precisely those qualities that robbed him of leading out the national side and the chance of transferring the enormous success he had at club level to the international stage.

Never a fan of the establishment – whether directors or what he called the "grey suits" of the Football Association – the man dubbed "Old Big 'Ed" once said: "I'm sure the England selectors thought if they took me on and gave me the job, then I would want to run the show.

"They were shrewd because that is exactly what I would have done."

nono - not in a new thread - staying here! I'll update when i can as i've got these stupid things called AS exams... still alls well that ends well and all that lark so hopefully i'll be able to kick off tonight for a wee bit and then continue with updates every couple of days i guess - Spanish today and Politics on friday is just the start! Anyone have any suggestions on signings or selection? i don't really know Hartlepool too well - but i'll try and make "Brian Clough signings" as much as possible... just 27 minutes to go and then just 5 more to go!

By the way - i apologise for the repetitious cliché new title - I really tried to think of something either amusing and/or relevant to Brian Clough without reciting my sig - i am also aware of another story called the same thing - almost! here but having checked this out - no offence to "bambam.cam" but it seems to have died now and he didn't get very far:
wat a failure!
I will ensure i get significantly further than him although i'm still not entirely sure what i'll do if i a)last 44 days + at Leeds and/or b) get offered the England job :P
