Elsewhere, Derby have improved since the appointment of Sean O'Driscoll, moving up a few places and are yet to lose, with an average record of two wins two draws from his first game in charge, a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough. On the one hand i guess i want them to be relegated so he gets sacked and i can take over, but on the other i don't really fancy too much league one football so maybe i'd prefer them to be in the championship when i take over - and he has a while until his contract expires...

November update coming soon

November Update: League One and FA Cup
View attachment 66516

With Only three league games to comment on, Hartlepool picked up a very respectable 6 points from 9, scoring 7 goals on the way, but conceding far too many, also 7...
3-2 vs Leyton Orient (Home) - Boyd, Gamble, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas
0-3 vs Huddersfield (Away)
4-2 vs Southampton (Home) - Emmanuel-Thomas, Brown, Jones (2) (José Fonte Sent off for S'oton)

manager's comments:
I'm delighted to have picked up all three points against Southampton, that's a real achievement because at the start of the season they were being tipped for promotion, and we were tipped to go down, it appears we have swapped expectations! I never expected to beat Huddersfield who are topping the table and in fine form, but we made several mistakes that cost us the game, in terms of goals conceded, most, if not all were very avoidable - we fell asleep a couple of times and Little has had a tough first month here

On Victoria Beckham's success as a singer and the midfielder's failure to force himself into contention for a England place:
Brian Clough said:
"He should guide Posh in the direction of a singing coach because she's nowhere near as good at her job as her husband."

On the sacking of his son, Nigel Clough at Derby and Roy Keane's departure from Ipswich:
Brian Clough said:
"If a chairman sacks the manager he initially appointed, he should go as well."
and on how Roy Keane will react to being sacked:
Brian Clough said:
"I only ever hit Roy the once. He got up so I couldn't have hit him very hard."
Will do a specific match update for the first game of December against Carlisle because of the importance of the fixture - just downloaded photoshop so hopefully if there are more things you'd like me to add i can address them, (e.g. editing BBC :P)

I like this story very much. My father once told me Brian Clough was one of the greatest English managers ever. He was a true legend, keep up with this story I'll be following.

thanks mate - its people like you and comments like that which make me enjoy writing!

Very good story mate, keep it up :) I have one question; how have you got the past positions graph up for the league? Lol.

Can't wait for you Leeds spell, you gotta really balls it up.

Hartlepool in the draw with the big boys
Hartlepool produced a good display to brush aside league two side Shrewsbury Town to put themselves in the hat for the third round, where they could meet one of several teams the bookies have put forward as favourites for theFA Cup sponsered by e-on. Previously, Brian Clough's side knocked out League one rivals Tranmere Rovers. On both occasions, the championship hopefuls strolled past their opposition, winning 2-0. In their first FA Cup match of the season, against Tranmere, top scorer Adam Boyd put them ahead just after half time with a tap in following Jay Emmanuel-Thomas's knock-down. The Arsenal loanee then secured a second round tie with Shrewsbury with a neat finish from 6 yards out after a superb through ball from Joe Gamble. A slightly weaker team faced up to Shrewsbury just 21 days later, and kept focused as young welshman Max Noble scored with a delightfully confident finish, having been put through by striker Boyd, the new [free] signing deceived the keeper, scoring with the outside of his right boot from a difficult angle. Ritchie Jones who has had a superb month for "pools" added another shortly after the break after a brilliant counter attack. The draw for the 3rd round will be announced on 30th November 2009.

CARLISLE 3-1 HARTLEPOOL

Carlisle emphasised the size of the gap between 6th and 7th today as they overcame Hartlepool at home with goals from Scott Dobie and Jay Rodriguez. Carlisle have now stretched their lead to 3 points in front of Hartlepool with a significantly better goal difference. Scott Dobie opened the scoring for the home side when a great first touch took him away from Ben Clark, the striker kept composed as he dummied and then lifted the ball over the keeper into the roof of the net to the delight of the fans. Jay Rodriguez doubled their lead when Dobie turned provider, breaking on the counter attack down the left hand side and floating in a delightful cross for Jay Rodriguez to head home unmarked. It was a good move, admitted the Hartlepool manager but it was a gift for a striker, the defending was awful. The Hartlepool manager played as a striker for his home club Middlesbrough scoring 197 goals in 213 league matches for Boro. Hartlepool fans were given a glimmer of home when right winger turned striker James Brown scored a magnificent individual effort, starting 30 yards out and holding off 3 challenges before bursting into the area on the right, skipping past the full back on the inside and firing a low finish through the keeper's legs. However the rout was complete when striker Rodriguez when Kevan Hurst broke through two defenders on the right before playing in the Burnley loanee who fired a toe poke across the keeper low in the corner. The striker, who has been in superb form, almost added another when he was found in the area on the counter attack by Horwood but his glanced header clipped the post. Ben Clark has several opportunities to pull Hartlepool level before the third goal, all from corners but failed to hit the target or beat the crossbar.

Blackburn? That's a tough draw there mate.

yeah it's tough in that it's a prem club, but they're effectively a championship side ;) They're not doing very well and have a slow backline so i'm fairly confident i can get something, who knows, only time will tell... i might have to tweak JPs tactics a little so go counter and pass more down flanks etc. hoping for the best though... i've already achieved my board's target and am performing well above expectations in league, currently just out of playoffs when i said i would try and not get relegated, so even if i lose i won't worry too much, i'll just win it with Forest, something Clough couldn't do

WORLD CUP DRAW ANNOUNCED TODAY

REACTION

1915: Carlos Alberto Perreira might know millions more than me about football, but he's wrong about there not being a Group of Death. I mean has he not seen that Argentina, USA, France, Australia have been bunched together? About time we crashed out a new graphic, then...

1918: World Cup Macca joins the party: "There's been some chat about the potential effects of playing at altitude in South Africa. England's opening game at Rustenburg is at 1500m, then they head down to sea level for their final two group games. If all goes to plan and they win their group it will be back to Rustenburg (1500m), Johannesburg (1753m), Cape Town (sea level) and J'burg (1753m). There could be plenty of ups and downs ahead for Capello's boys."

2000: Alas, after 480 minutes, it's time to bid you farewell. I hope you have enjoyed this teeny, tiny little taster of what is to come when the 2010 World Cup takes place in South Africa next summer. It's almost too exciting for words, isn't it? Tomorrow, Cheesy is back in the chair as the Premier League resumes. Have a brilliant weekend.

England can be pretty chuffed at this draw with which they have more than a chance of progressing through to face most likely a difficult match against France or Argentina. Now they can focus their attentions on backing the bid.

cheers mate - haven't really had a lot of time to play FM - been so busy with my work... 8-|(H) and playing google pacman.. <)

What so your going to do what he did at Leeds? and also all the teams will be in wrong leauges

Maybe not! Leeds may get promoted twice into premier league, Forest may go up.. I wasn't wild on the idea of shifting the whole thing around on the editor just for this... Also i'm as yet undecided whether i'll stay 45+ days at Leeds yet - we'll see what happens...

Are you using the same tactics as Brain Clough used to use in a match?

That's the plan... short passing to feet, getting the ball through the middle and staying on feet, playing good football as Clough quotes show is what he wanted from his players. However, since I didn't have much experience of his tactics and couldn't find anything on www.zonalmarking.com or www.fm-britain.co.uk i decided to look through the forums on FM Base and luckily found a tactic by JP Woody which i thought should suffice having tried it out in pre-season. However a few games in, JP Woody commented on this thread (he hasn't come back since :'(oO)) and said that the one i was using was actually out of date and for the wrong patch and suggested another one which i've been using recently, pretty successfully, i hope that no one thinks less of me for using JP's tactics!

Certainly not, JP's a legend and his tactics are always first rate. Good story so far mate, I'm enjoying it. Keep it up.
