Thanks KidBlink - glad to hear it! Sorry i haven;t updated recently, been trying to find an appropriate balance between revising for - let's face it - fairly important AS exams and playing FM - it's really difficult! Half term now though and just two more to go after today's Politics so i'll get some updates on probably this afternoon!

Doing really well in the league mate, long may it continue. Liking the variety in your updates too. Top stuff

December 2009 Update
2-0 vs Milwall (Home) (L1) - Brown (2)
2-3 vs Southend (Away) (L1) - Emmanuel-Thomas, Boyd
1-0 vs Yeovil (Home) (L1) - Little
1-3 vs Leeds United (Away) (L1) - Boyd
1-1 vs Oldham (Home) (L1) - Brown

All in all a disappointing month for Hartlepools, Bjornsson at CB continues to perform badly and despite his goal, new signing Andy Little isn't doing too well either, admittedly playing out of position with injuries at CB, RB, and LB! - in the last three games they showed how much they missed Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, the Arsenal loanee who consistently drove the team on in the three months he was there, unfortunately he has declined an offer to come back until the end of the season but there are plans to make an offer for Danny Rose to join the club as a LM in Janurary as he finishes a successful spell at Coventry as well as young CB Luke Ayling as backup.

In an interview for Hartlepool Mail, Clough had the following to say:

I didn't expect much from the lads but i wanted more effort than that, some of the defending was the worst i've ever seen, although admittedly it was a weaker team with an important League one game coming up after the FA cup - we're out though and we can focus elsewhere, the lads did their best on the day and unsurprisingly struggled under the pressure of facing a premier league team doing very well in their league, but if we meet them again at some point, we will beat them!

Meanwhile, Hartlepool ladies have progressed into the 4th round of the FA cup with a win over non-league side, Billingham south, talking about their success Brian Clough said:
"I like my women to be feminine, not sliding into tackles and covered in mud.

Barclays Premier League (Division 1) Update
View attachment 68637
In the transfer market, Man Utd signed Croatian play maker Luka Modric from Tottenham in a deal potentially worth in the region of £24 million as well as Brazilian Jádson on a free transfer after he was released by Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk, adding to their summer aqquisition of Ryan Shawcross. However Arsenal and Chelsea failed to build on their £20 million and £45.5 million respective summer spends. Arsenal brought in Adam Matthews from Cardiff as well as Nordin Amrabat from PSV. Chelsea's most high profile signing was Luiz Suarez, in from Ajax for over £22m. Meanwhile Roberto Mancini was the first managerial casualty of the 09/10 season in Division 1.

Derby County Update
Derby lie 18th in the old Division 2, 6 points from safety after O'Driscoll makes steady, if inconsistent progress since taking over in October 2009. O'Driscoll, who has been openly criticised by Clough is thought to be "stable" in his job safety, according to the Board of Directors at Derby who have failed to see a significant improvement. They also commented that finances at the club were "Okay" after fears of administration were leaked in The Sun before their crucial FA Cup 4th round loss to QPR
.

The final will be contested by Manchester United and Aston Villa at Wembley on February 28. Manchester United beat Everton 6-2 on aggregate after a 4-1 win at Goodison Park in the first leg. Aston Villa overcame Tottenham Hotspur to reach the final 4-3 on aggregate having secured a second leg victory 2-1 victory at White Hart Lane.

The FA Cup is now in the 5th round, with Leeds United and Norwich City representing League 1 (The third division) as the lowest placed teams still in the competition

Good story this. Keep it up.

Thanks man! appreciate it - definitely keeping it up, the tactic is working wonders! Except that my CB has great Jumping attributes so he wins the ball in the air from corners but is a) naturally a striker b) mentally retarded XD and c) unable to head the ball on target or i'd score SO many more goals lol

Brian Clough speaking on his side's 2-2 draw to Leeds said:
The lads can be proud of that comeback, they got a lucky penalty and we dominated the game. But i have to say that the tactics used by Leeds in that match were disgraceful, they kicked us all over and now i have to play Southampton with a bunch of reserves.

In other news, Derby County are looking nervous again as they dropped to 19th position in the Championship, Division 2 after losing to Sheffield Utd. away and getting a little lucky with a draw at home to Newcastle, who dominated the game.

ur doing very nwell under small buget can i ask yuo some thinkk were did you find the news papper pics what you put up give the story a nice touch.been waiting for a bran clough story for ages glad some you picked him :)

I didn't pick him! Everyone else did, all 28 of the people who voted for him :D - thanks mate, yeah i like to think if i put the extra effort in then people will be more likely to follow. I got some of the links from the stickys on the story section, e.g. LGFire's Story Templates as well as Tips, Hints, and Links to make a better FM story.
As requested, here are the links for the newspaper articles, you don't need photo shop or anything by the way:
Newspaper Article more detailed/less variation.
Or:
Headlines Less detailed, and less variation but still good to make a point with.

Guys sorry i haven't updated in a while - been really busy working for my ****** AS exams! :(
I'm still going though and will update tonight probably and hopefully get into the swing of it after my exams finish (in about 10 days, a little less!!!) Thanks for following everyone and i hope you haven't given up!

EDIT:
Blimey, these ruddy exams! who needs qualifications anyway? I mean, it's not like Harry Redknapp had to do an AS Level exam in English Literature, I don't know that he knows how to read, he can't even speak English that well :P. Anyway, as i sneak away for a wee break with a glass of fresh Orange Juice and a KitKat (that's right i'm a massive cliché). I thought, you know what, why don't i delight fans and followers alike who take pleasure in my updates by picking up where i left off in my Brian Clough emulation save on Football Manager 2010. Can I emulate his success? Well, technically i haven't actually left Hartlepool yet or finished my first season but here i go again, will finish ASAP and update for ze next month when i can. Keep Following!

Wow, good to be back guys - so sorry i haven't updated in a while, i got carried away with not doing exams and have spent most of my time watching World Cup games which, in all honesty haven't been toio exciting :S. Let's hope England can recover their qualifying form against Algeria on Friday, and hopefully participate in a couple of genuinely exciting games, not just two teams knocking it around their penalty area for 25 minutes waiting for a long ball opportunity. Anywho, back to the point:
The story is still very much alive and the next update in 2 minutes will be from where i left off to the end of the season, for this is the exciting climax to the first season in League 1 we have reached.

Back in Business

OK guys and girls - after a (very) long break from this story, because i've been playing another save game, my Arsenal one, as well as doing other things such as coursework 8-| :'( - I'm going to start it up again, i still have the save, and im in my second season, so i'll finish up my pre-season over the weekend and start again ASAP, i hope people will still follow, despite a prolonged absence from this thread!(H)

Yeah, i'm trying - i found a page with loads of quotes from him on it, so i was and will keep using those.

You know what. Screw it, i admit i'm awful at stories, i was really into this before, then i had loads of work, and i'm taking a bit of a break from FM.. i may (though i doubt it) reopen this, but for now it's closed. Thanks for the followers when this was a regular and decent story! Oh, and thanks a lot to Nathan for the sig, it's brilliant!
