FA Announce New Plans For The FA Cup:

The FA have today announced new plans for the Budweisser FA Cup. Chairman David Bernstein along with new sponsors Budweisser unveiled the FA's new plans for the FA Cup beginning at the start of the 2012/13 season.
Chairman Bernstein stated that the Cup needed a 'right good shake-up' adding; 'The cup has the most heritage of any of the worlds domestic cups, but over the past few years the cup has stagnated. Its simply needs a revamp, so we have released todays dossier with the new plans for every one to get familier with over the next year in time for January next season when the changes will take effect.'
The announcement comes on the eve of the first fixtures that sees England's finest enter the competition in the massively traditional 3rd round weekend, a true sporting highlight on our calender.
The Key Points:

  • [*=center]Seeding will remain the same, the Premier League top ten from the previous season will not enter till the third round.
[*=center]No replays from the quarter Finals onwards - they will now follow the extra time, penalties format.
[*=center]Games drawn from the quarter finals onwards will be numbered quarter-final 1,2,3 etc. They will all be played at the following neutral ground, which will also be drawn to see where each side plays:
Villa Park
Anfield
Etihad
The Emirates
St. James' Park @ Sport Direct Arena
Old Trafford
Wembley

  • [*=center]The same style draw will take place for the semi-final
[*=center]The final will be held at Wembley
[*=center]The FA has filed for an extra Champions League place of UEFA which will be awarded to the winner. (To the earliest qualifying round)
[*=center]If the winner finish within the top four, the position will be returned to UEFA for the sporting play draw.
[*=center]Further announcments will be made on June 6th ahead of the 2012/13 season

Bernstein confirmed afterwards that some neutral venues may have to be swapped in 'sensible' circustances 'for example, manchester united vs everton at Anfield, or Liverpool vs Leeds at Old Trafford would be swapped to different venues.'

A horrible game, i played a full strength team and once again they let themselves down in the cup competition. We will just have too move on and continue to dominate and push on in the new year in the league.

Wigan 2-0 Nottingham Forest
Whittingham (3, missed pen 14) Goodwillie (90+2)

A good win to get us back on track Whittingham is coming into his own pulling the strings in midfield, and having Goodwillie back scoring really helps.

Wigan Go On Poor Run Of Five Winless Games

Leicester 0-0 Wigan

An ok performance, we didnt unlock their defence as much as i had hoped, alot os sideways balls and possesion. But nothing of any real class.

Wigan 1-1 Blackpool
Zaha (3) , Taylor - Fletcher (86)

Another poor result against Blackpool, ecspecially at home and after getting the early goal. Thats four points dropped now, and we need to get on track fast.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Middlesborough 1-1 Wigan
Sorensen (14) Carson (44)
1930466

Again two more points dropped. we continuously created openings but couldnt find the finish. Goodwillie really struggling now, new player Josh Carson had a fantastic debut and capped it with a great win.

Wigan 1-1 Brighton
Hanley (23) Todorov (pen 39)

Starting to sound like a broken record now. Same old, same old. Creating many chances, get an early break through and then let them back into it. We simply need to be more clinical.

Not a great month this month. But still a great story. I like Wigan and hope you do well. Let me know how Zaha does.

Three points thrown away once again, with a poor eight minute spell. Conceding three goals in eight minutes was a complete sucker-punch. we need to bounce back and get out of this winless run.

Thirty Two games in and just fourteen left and we're looking well placed. We're mid blip and if we can stop this rot then we will fire ourselves to the top of this division.

Doncaster 1-2 Wigan
Bogayenko (40) , Zaha (34, 46)

127313762_crop_450x500.jpg

Nice to get ourselves back on track with a good win, its been a lean spell for Wilfried, and for the first time in a long time he played as the focal point down the middle instead of wide right and boy did we get the rewards.

Great update mate. Looks like you'll be going up whoo!

Wigan 4-1 Huddersfield
Zaha (1) Wickham (31) McCarthy (44) Ebanks-Blake (71) , McCombe (82)

Sylvan-Ebanks-Blake-004.jpg

A fantastic start for Ebanks-Blake, he was a true battering ram for the lads in this game, and we're looking so so strong now, the january additions have just kicked us on. Josh Carson has been the true pick of the bunch so far, 3 asissts in three games if a fantastic opening to his Wigan life. In terms of my transfer policy, when i joined the club we had too many old players with no re-sale value, so good players like Rodallega were leaving for as little as three million. Now with investing in youth, if they display their skills then decide to move on hopefully we can double our investment in the players.

Wigan 0-1 Watford
Velikonja (45+1)

veli.jpg

The second time this season we've dropped points to Watford. The second time Velikonja has put us to the sword and completley dominated our two centre halfs. A dissapointing crowd of just 12,000 turned up. There was no inspiration from the stands, i need to get the players more motivated before the games and remove some of the relaxation.

Top Of The Table Clash Puts Bolton In The Clear:

Bolton 2-1 Wigan
Davies (15) Pitak (Pen 64) , Zaha (15)

kevin-davies_1591651c.jpg

A must win. local derby. Top of the clash. We blew it, we ******* blew it, we could have blown the title race wide open and put ourselves clear of 3rd place, but the young lads bottled it once again. They all shelled the responsibilty no one other than Zaha wanted to take it on. The scoreline reflects that and now we're in a battle for second as Reading get into their stride.

Wigan Back To Winning Ways With Ten Games Left

Wigan 3-2 Charlton
Martial (12) McCarthy (16) Goodwillie (50) , Haynes (43) Kergonant (52)

get-photo.asp

I'd held a meeting and demanded each individual stepped up. It was 'Mr Wigan' himself who stepped up. He's had a very quite season, but he was a sensational driving force in this game, real premier league quality. If he gives just 70% of this in the remainder of the games he'll easily propell us to promotion.

Sheffield United 2-1 Wigan
Evans (13) Halenar (40+2) , Goodwillie (43)

3191345858.jpg

Losing to the bottom place club is always difficult to take, and with just 10 games left it puts a real spanner in the works. We havent looked convincing since January and now in mid-march we're really struggling to get going again.

Wigan 1-0 Derby
Ward (OG, 63)
Ward_2695077.jpg

A wins a win. I'll take a win however it comes at this stage of the seasn. Of course i'd love the team to be more clinical. But getting the points on the board is the most important thing.

Like the layout mate, simple but effective. I also like the way you write from a first person perspective.

Great story. Nice idea of staying with the club - I hope you get promoted. Good luck!

Wow this story is great. The amount of effort you have put into this is unreal.....keep up the good work!

Holloway: Now's The Time To Push On!
Suso.jpg

Ian Holloway today issued a rallying cry to his men ahead of their trip to Ipswich this weekend. 'Now we must really push on, we're are flagging a bit and this league waits for no man. its not about how you are for 36 games its the last 10, we could play like Barcelona for 36 games and then like kettering for the last and no one will remember the first lot will they?
Holloway also confirmed the clubs eighteenth signing of the season, with Liverpools young Spaniard Suso. 'He's a great techinical player yeah, one of those spanish give-and-go lads, who can really help us push on too promotion.

Wigan Falter Away To Traktor Boys

Ipswich 2-1 Wigan

Very dissapointed with chucking this one away. Was very poor, the only bright spark bringing Suso on with 15mins to go. He looked a class apart. Should really propell us up to promotion. This defeat did see us drop out of the top two but i expect us to climb back up there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wigan 2-0 Portsmouth
Goodwillie (26) Suso (68)

Back to winning ways which was fantastic, before our late kick-off we had dropped to 5th but this win had moved us back to the top three.

Holloway Bamoans 'shameful' Wigan

Leeds 3-1 Wigan
Pugh (17,30) Jackson (55) , Fernandez (88) Caldwell red card(68)

Doncaster-Rovers-v-Leeds--007.jpg

Very poor from the lads. We couldnt even put it down to having ten men on the pitch, we played even better without caldwell, we need to bounce back because automatic promotion is becoming more distant.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wigan 2-2 Peterborough
Carson (22) Goodwillie (51, missed pen 81) , Rowe (4) Ball (21)

article-0-0B429E54000005DC-830_468x286.jpg

I looked on in horror as we blew a home banker. Peterborough are stuck in the bottom three and cut adrifit, and us battleing for a position in the premier league couldnt overcome them. Even with a penalty in the last couple of mins. We really need a big win against 2nd place Reading next week if we are to stand any chance of gaining automatic promotion.
