always check the free agents market esp players released from higher divisions, sometimes you can sign players you wouldn't even think could accept such a low level.

also try searching for regens in africa, you may find super cheap wonderkids and if you're lucky they have an EU passport as well (remember buying an amazing angolan/portuguese centre back for 7K euros)

though I think your current squad should do well even in C1 (btw can you post some screen of your players?)

here are a few names you may want to check:

Defenders: Luca Franchini, Jorge Curbelo, Michele Ferri, both Cichero brothers
Midfielders: Andrea Parola, Miguel Cevasco, Miguel Mea Vitali
Attackers: Siligardi, Paonessa, Petrucci (from Man Utd, was a beast pre-patch now I'm not sure)
Strikers: Pastorini and Fabbiani. And give Cesarini more chances ;)

nice one, thanks for that, and sure, ill post some of my top guys

Man I've tried so many leagues and countries after my San Marino adventure: greece, france LLM, australia, even vaduz/lichtenstein in swiss (aka San marino lite)... but for me nothing comes close to the San Marino challenge!

So I'm starting once again with patch 11.3 and this time with the national team from day one, too! I was wondering if there's still somebody playing with SM (apart Drezzy!) and still following this thread, and if I should keep posting upadates here. Anyone?

Just finished my first season with San Marino. I made some great signings at the start of the season thanks to looking kandersson's and Will's transfers and found some good ones myself. We finished first in Serie C2/B comfortably, securing promotion with 5 games left. I also won the Serie C Cup and the C2 Super Cup. We were knocked out in the 2nd Qualifying Rnd of the Italian Cup. All in all an excellent season.

Rodrigo Pastorini was a great find. He's only 20 years old so I have hopes he will stay with me through all the leagues and have a good career with San Marino. He scored 35 from 39 games last season which is pretty impressive. I also signed Christian Fabbiani, but he didn't join until December and was injured for 9 weeks when he joined so didn;t get many games. He did well in the games he played and I think he will do well for the club although he is a little slow. My two centre backs also scored a lot of goals. Marco Pecorari scored 15 purely from corners and free kicks into the box. Mariano Stendardo scored 12 from direct free kicks.

I'm quite confident that I can secure promotion to Serie B in the coming season since the team did well against C1 opposition in the Serie C Cup but I'm worried about finances. The board kept injecting cash into the club throughout the season. The weekly wage bill is below the limit, but I don't have any cash to sign new players or pay new players' wages. I've been trying to take players on loan from larger clubs but I haven't found one player from a larger club who is willing to come on loan to San Marino. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I've also asked the board to find an another parent club to allow us to take players on loan and although they say they agree to it they never seem to find any clubs.

also, i just sold vivan to verona for £2k, so the only keeper I have now is Vincent Degre. If anyone has any good ideas for a second keeper, please let me know.

cheers bentilicious, that was a great first season, keep it up! Pastorini is a recent favourite of mine, unfortunately he's not a free agent anymore in patch 11.3 (now at Penarol) so can't afford him...yet! He's a good young striker who can be a star even at serie B level, and could become more than decent for serie A if properly developed.

Finances won't look decent until serie B, but your team should already be good enough to challenge for promotion so don't worry too much, I had used this very same strategy in my previous save and worked out fine.

Maybe try to make short term profits selling some players (not the key ones) to higher division clubs, and don't forget away friendlies against New Zealand clubs...

I'm about half-season in C2, using my past experience to dominate the league with some old buddies (Cesarini/Pecorari anyone?) and some new faces as well, will start re-posting updates soon :P

On the other hand managing the NT at the start of the game is a nightmare as the players are absolutely rubbish (Andy Selva being the exception). May be sacked soon by the FA which I find quite unfair: in my old save the NT manager could lose any match 0-10 (and he did that for 7 straight years) and never ever got insecure, not to say sacked!

I follow but am In a long term save of my own so dont play it myself

i've just realised i've made a grave mistake. Broli, a key player for me last season, has left the club. I'm not sure whether he was just on a one year contract or whether I accidentally terminated his contract, but he won't sign with me again. :'(

I had reached the top with San Marino club in the last save, and felt I was slowly but steadily improving the standard of new players for the NT, though eventually I lost my patience because of some bugs (re academy and NT job most of all) and also seeing my best youth product ever defect to Italy :@ This time I'd like to finish the job esp with the NT, hoping patch 11.3 has solved every issue.

Hopefully Drezzy and bentilicious will help keeping this thread lively, and I'm always waiting for updates from my friend and fellow SM veteran Monfils :) Any comment/contribution from both challengers or followers always appreciated!

I have decided to take up this challenge because of a few reasons.

a) it seems fun and difficult
b) my journeyman save is at 2022 and I'm looking for a bit of a challenge before I go back to it
c) I have made a great tactic and tested it with various big teams in various leagues across various year points, now I have to test it with some LLM teams. San Marino seem a **** good choice.

taking club to success: fun and difficult
taking NT to acceptable level: 2022 would be nice. 2032 more realistic...

looking forward to see your progress in the challenge, and your tactic too

I had an old journeyman save in FM09 in which I took the mighty Val Di Sangro from C2 to Uefa Cup success. I got beat in Champions League Final by AC Milan the following season and then my laptop died and I lost everything, quite upsetting.

The NT aspect of this challenge is what intrigues me, and the fact that San Marino operates as seperate nationality. Ideally my aim is to build the club up financially stable and develope a youth network and have a roughly 60% Sanmarinaese team in Serie A. 100% I believe is just to difficult for such a small nation.

Ill upload the tactic after I finish one San Marino C2 season to see how it goes. Maybe a bit sooner, maybe a bit longer. I am tempted to do another 1 season save with some other LLM teams to see how well it works.

In my journeyman save I conquered the world with Ajax and Leeds, I left Leeds after 2 consecutive Champions League/Premier League doubles because Real Madrid came calling, the tactic also has them in CL final and Spanish Cup Final and 2nd in La Liga. These are obviously easier with a club with resources like Real Madrid, but it worked bringing Leeds from Championship to English dominantion within a few years.

That's some impressive CV

If you look back in this thread you can see I managed to take the club to serie A in just three seasons, and win the Scudetto after another three years (that season also runner-up in CL).

60% of local players? may be possible if you're very patient and only after your club builds an international reputation (which I found to be more important than recruitment network or facilities). And you need to be very lucky with the randomness of regens of course. Anyway we're still talking of long (LONG) term future... hope we'll get there asap though!

I would like to get a few back to back promotions. I'm just thinking one season at a time. Get some revenue and make sure to get promoted from C2 in my first season. Need to clear the team of some deadwood and bring in some players that fit the mould of my tactic. I have no wingbacks at all at the club and 2 or 3 D/WBLs.

And here we go again

Friendly win against American Samoa was a much needed break from Euro Qualifications misery.

Andy Selva, the legendary captain. Managed a couple of amazing goals against European powerhouses too! Youngster Matteo Vitaioli will be his successor one day, trying to develop him the best I can at the club.

I started this challenge few weeks ago but have just signed up to the forum.

Before i started my night shift today i won promotion to serie A on the last day of the season.

Now entering my fifth season.

my standout player is daniele conti, who has been with the club for three championship winning seasons and one near relegation scrape.

All in all my team is very average with some young up and coming players so ill prob get destroyed in my first season in Serie A.

On a gd note i have a very gd SM player who has come through my academy and was a main fixture on my left wing in my Seria B winning season.

So any advice or signings for Serie A domination???

Good player Daniele Conti, had him in my previous save and still on board this time around though I wouldn't recommend him as a marquee player at serie A level.

Some advice can be found in my (very) little serie A guide at page 5 of this thread (post 140), the key is always trying to improve the quality of the squad via free signings, which you should be able to do with your club's new status. I had managed some amazing signings in my first serie A season (check my previous updates to see some of them), anyway forget about domination for at least a couple of years ;)

I'd really like to see that sammarinese youngster from your academy, could you post a screen of him???

Im currently on top in Serie 1 C/B....hopefully will go up this season, had a few dodgy results over the past month, but got Reggina next who are 2nd, 5 points behind.
But my board wont invest in a youth academy, so im gonna try if we get to serie b

You need some $$$ in the bank to start the academy (about 3-4M I think), which is virtually impossible while in serie C. Things should get better in B with bigger TV deals, more profitable sells and most of all the famous New Zealand friendlies... good luck!
