After last years success (...) http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/challenges-scenarios/85095-great-san-marino-challenge.html is back for 2013!

Always had a soft spot for this classic challenge since the older versions of the game, credit to fellow San Marino specialist and fm-baser Ubernisation for inspiring - obsessing? - me again in FM11 with his amazing story
smile.gif

The challenge: take control of San Marino - the club - competing in Italian Serie C1 (3rd tier) and lead them all the way to Serie A championship and continental success. At the same time your goal is to take San Marino - the national team - from being virtually the worst member amongst FIFA affiliated teams to become a respectable football country, and eventually contend for major international tournaments.

Things will look like this at the start of the game:

The key part of this challenge is using the club's progress to improve the quality of the national team. Improve training & youth facilities, expand recruitment network, hire quality staff, climb up the leagues and build an international reputation: do as much as you can in order to produce a new generation of local talent and dramatically improve the atrocious standard of Sammarinese footballers.

Of course San Marino the club needs money to get things started and help San Marino the country, and trust me you're not getting those $$$ as long as you're stuck in the Italian lower leagues. Needless to say first thing on your to-do list is to escape from Serie C misery and reach Serie A as soon as possible to get that vital cash from league, sponsorships, TV deals etc

Long story short: the future of the whole country depends on you and your club!

Obviously this is an open challenge without limits of time or specific goals to achieve, it does require some kind of long term commitment though. You're welcome to post your progress with both club and/or country, results, players, unusual screens, signings, tactics, best eleven, promising prospects from your academy etc. Whatever you like!

Returning from last year are the Great San Marino Mini-Challenges. I had accomplished most of them in FM12, and actually that guy Choices went on to achieve the legendary SM Double - respect! No points awarded or rankings this is just for fun, anyway those who complete at least one of the "extras" with the club AND one with the country will be inducted to the San Marino Hall of Fame which will be added in OP

RULES & INSTRUCTIONS

You need to load all players of San Marino nationality at the start of the game, otherwise the NT won't be available (before starting: database size > custom > add all players from SAN MARINO and please don't ask this again :p)

You can start the challenge as club manager, NT manager or both.

Do not use external database, genie scout, FMRTE or any other editor. Not only this goes against the spirit of the challenge, it simply makes it meaningless. Also do not manage multiple clubs at the same time, as this would give you an unfair advantage with transfers, scouting, knowledge etc. The only exception allowed would be managing a Sammarinese club and using a custom database with Sammarinese League, as this is very much in the spirit of the challenge.

Obviously this is your game and you can play the way you like but please respect these simple rules if you want to join this particular challenge.

Hope to see your progress soon, good luck to all my fellow Titani managers and remember: it IS possible!

I raged from my first attempt but will go back to it when my game arrives and when a few others have started this so I can get ideas for players.

Scorza and Gulraiz still pwn if you sign them.

I'm starting this now :) Is it ok in the spirit of the challenge to start with the NT as well as the club would you say???

Yes! That is what you should do ideally but can be disheartening managing the NT at the start

think I can understand you as I'm having a hard time figuring out the ME atm, looks so inconsistent to me more a matter of gameplay than results actually. 13.1.1 seems a little more stable but I don't feel ready to commit to a long term save right now, will keep testing a little bit I guess...

Veteran free agents are still your best options, I'd certainly recommend former Italian international C.Zanetti - good for serie A imo - and attacking midfielders Bombardini and Allegretti - oldies but goodies.

@Leroy1600: as per challenge rules you can start with both club and country, actually that's what I always do and first 2-3 years in charge of NT are the best ;)

Once I've found my feet in this game I will be giving this a whirl. Left it too late on last time!

I'm just about to start the challenge now. I am going to manage both the national team and the club team at the same time. Should be a lot of fun and hopefully a save that will keep me going.

No better time than the present, after a successful dabble with QPR I'm going to start this challenge straight away. I like the new feature of being able to start as club and international. This is going to be a real challenge considering my depth of knowledge of FM13 is so limited at the moment, I started it on FM12 once I knew the game inside out and the club team was easy to develop!

Baaaahhh!!! Forgot to load all Sammarinese players and database still setting up (added all players of Italian nationality so I can go scouting in South America for dual nationality players) and its a huge database now. Guess I will have to load again! :$

I'm starting to test my Sammarinese League System for FM13, and have found this guy in the Pennarossa reserves. Although I'm pretty sure he's got better fitness then their suggesting and would make a better Fitness coach.

this year I'm only going to do one version with a fantasy pre season competition which Is being tested to make sure it definately is pre season for all involved clubs.

:O

Going to have to find someone else to bang in the goals. Gulraiz went to Salernitana as well.

Scorza just joined Cenciano irl so wont consider switching clubs at least until next transfer session! we'll need to find a new lower leagues legend this time ;)

@sammyt: how about Manuel Poggiali :p

will start the challenge myself when I'll start feeling comfortable with my tactics, new ME and flow of the game... still working on that tbh, just cant 'see' it at the moment...

Update on the Challenge so far

I'm about a month into my game, sorted out the team in terms of who's in/out, just got to get them to gel and learn the tactic. Messed up on the staff though :( got rid of a lot of the ****, but the board won't let me replace them! So will have to work around this somehow. Here's my transfer activity:

View attachment 281465

A few screen shots of the players I think will be key to my season:

Re-training Edu to play CB, hopefully will form a great partnership with Diagarouga. Looking for Dosek and Zanchetta to get the goals from the ST position, with a great creative force in midfield of Ponte, Fortunatti and Leo Aro (retraining as AML).

I don't play my friendlies I leave them to the assistant, so my competitive games have came in the cup. We put up a good fight, winning in the first qualifying round, but couldn't muster a win against a strong Verona side, losing after extra time. Not surprising, my team is still not match fit, will take time to gel and they're getting used to the tactics. So, an early exit in the cup, but promising signs going forward.

On the National team front, I would like to report very promising start. Firstly, there are two new prospects in amongst the San Marino side, both 16 and have good ratings for potential. As well as Palazzi seemingly coming out of retirement to add quality to DR, DM or MC.

First friendly was away to Norway. I was expecting a 5+ nil thrashing and as such set a defensive, contain strategy. As expected, we were dominated in the first half, with their right winger bagging an easy hat-trick. Decided at half time this wasn't good enough, told them so and changed to a more attacking strategy for the second half (although still cautious). Resulted in creating 2 clear cut chances, one was scored, the other hit the post. A first goal for Vitaioli (now playing as an amateur in the Sammarinese league but still decent) and an assist for 16-year old Gualandi.

Happy with my start so far, a very respectable 3-1 loss!!! My next update will probably be around Christmas time (in game).

and can we do the challenge in classic mode? you should put it in the main post, since its quite a difference IMO ;O

as for me, im not doing stuff like this for now, ill wait for a few more patches to avoid extreme frustrations ;o

If people are having problem resigning Scorza is 2013 then i think you should a look at Federico Laurito - 22 year old striker - im play him as a poacher. first season 31 from 39 games injured for a month and missing him alot

Anyone with editor experience mind helping me out? I've been trying to create a playable SM league and everything seems to be working just fine except the Coppa Titano. Every time I try to make it a Group Stage then Knockout Round system, I get this error:

View attachment 281554

Admittedly, I have no idea what I'm doing. But what I'm trying to do is have group stages from the middle/last week in August to the middle of March; Quarterfinals two weeks after; Semifinals a week after; and then the final two weeks after that. What do I have to do to create the scenario above?

I would talk to Sammy. He did one last year so he is well verse in those types of matters.

Also I see I made the the main page! Cool. I don't know if I really want to do this challenge again, although I do need to work on the little stuff with the challenge since I failed to do that last year. I am really busy until the new year so I might not be able to pick up the game. We shall see, but I will keep an eye on everyone to see how they do this year.

I decided to start again again as I just wanted to manager San Marino the football club for the time being. I released all the dead wood and brought in a few players. I did manage to sign Laurito who is mentioned above after a recommendation from my Head Scout. I lost in the first round of the cup but beat Leece 1-0 in my first league game.
