The " I have a small question" thread FM13

as this patch seems to have alot of the oppisition doing over the top through balls, would playing a sweeper be a good idea?

im about to start a save with southampton and im thinking maybe a back 7 of this:

WB support - Anchor - WB support
CD defend - CD defend
Sweeper
GK

I currently use libero but I have modified the player instructions a bit. Defensively it works very well, you can see an overall decrease of through balls just because your lines are tighter and also the sweeper/libero seems to work pretty well, intercepting through balls.

But you have to be careful when playing against only 1 striker, because then the striker might get into 1 vs 1 against your sweeper as the centre backs often place themselves too wide to cover.

So yes, if you find a suitable player and it suits your philosophy, then go ahead. You might need to do some adjustments to your tactic to make it work properly though.

I'm having an issue keeping a lead in this game..
Managing Dortmund playing with a 4-3-3 tactic with DMs and an AMC, fluid and attacking. The moment I score, the other team just replies right away and scores, and 5 minutes later I find MYSELF behind.
Any ideas?

You need to look how they score. If they score with through balls in behind your defense, then drop your defensive line and make sure their creative players are closed down. If they score from crosses/other wingplay situations, consider dropping your AML and AMR to ML and MR positions to increase defensive security.

Are the roles and duties just a preset of the player instructions?
Or does a Advanced playmaker with the same instructions as a trequartista really play different?

If advanced playmaker and trequartista have the same player instructions, they play the same way.

How do you set those yellow lines in certain directs like I see on some downloadable tactics?

You dont :D

These arrows are only a visible representation of the players " runs from deep " settings and can only be seen when converting the tactic into Tactic Classic mode". If you have a player set to " often", then its an arrow forward, if he is on rarely, its an arrow backwards ( mixed = no arrow). So, this is just a cosmetic thing and have nothing to do with where he will take his run into etc

What is the equivalent of calling a defensive player a weak link when talking to the press, but for an attacking player? I have read it's to call them a dangerman, but I would of thought that would have the opposite effect?

I'm having issues putting up a solid defense. Specifically, no matter what I do (tight marking on/off, high pressure on/off, tackling hard/easy), my defenders never seem to tighten up and be firm, especially in the penalty area. I conceed a load of goals where players receive the ball in the box with the backs to goal, and my defenders pretty much just run away from them instead of putting pressure on them. Is there any way to fix this?

i want to have a holding midfielder. i set him to a bwm and lowered his mentlity, creativity, closing down. but still he is running like crazy to gain the ball. what should i do ?

What attributes are NOT trainable. I could be wrong, but I thought determintion, bravery, teamwork and a few others (mostly mental) were not trainable - I'm sure I found a list before but I just can't find it now :( Anyone know or have a link?

Drop his position to a defensive midfielder instead of a central midfielder.

I've noticed a few tactics using more than one playmaker. I've always had the philosophy that the playmaker is the best 'out' for a player and will dictate the play. I imagine having two playmakers could cause indecision especially if they are in close proximity. Can anyone who uses two playmakers explain the philosophy behind it and tell me whether/why it works?

It is not important to play two PM s in game as DLP-AP couple or a BWM with them. Even you can use 2 DLPs and an AP if your players fit those roles. The important thing is WHO will be the ONE you wanna MARK ON in team instructions page.

Hope you got answer:))

I get you, thanks!

Hmm, this creates some possibilities!

I see a lot of posts how the latest patch has made tactics more erratic but going through the patchnotes I can't seem to find anything that would affect a tactic. Has something actually been changed in the ME?
