I agree, I love Kuyt, such a hard-working player for us, but I can't see how he would fit in if we signed those 2 players. Can you suggest a formation?

Play a flat 4-4-2 Looking like this (If Young and Coentrao were to join) :

Reina
Kelly - Carra - Agger - Coentrao
Kuyt - Meireles - Gerrard - Young
Carroll - Suarez

That way we have both Kuyt and Young in. Maybe put Gerrard as an Attacking Midfielder instead.

Gerrard and Meireles in the middle? We'd get slaughtered.

Reina
Johnson - Carra - Agger - Coentrao
M'Vila/Lucas
Gerrard - Meireles
Kuyt/ Young - Young / Suarez
Suarez / Carroll

but as you see i have alot of optinos on how to play depedning on situation :)

I pick Kuyt over Young everyday.

Hmm, at present with our style of play I agree, however, I can see us swinging in more crosses in the future, and I don't think Kuyt is really the kind of player that can provide that. Young on the other hand, is fully capable. I fully expect that Kuyt would still get plenty of game time, but I can't see too much of a future for him if we switch to a crossing game to accommodate Carroll. He could always play as a striker, but we've got Carroll and Suarez there. I really see him as more of a back up come next season, as much as I love him :(

With the performances Lucas has been putting in this season, you would gladly leave him out? He's been so important to us lately, and is still reasonably young. He could be a Brazil star yet. Whilst this would work, I wouldn't like to leave out Lucas :S Also, all 4 of those midfielders are very attack-minded players, which would leave a huge gap to exploit between our defense and midfield, which is where Lucas would come in!

True, but who would you rather leave out?

I mean, Suarez could play Left, Kuyt right and Carroll alone up front, and then a 3 man midfield with Lucas, Meireles and Gerrard. This was just a possibilty if Young was to join.

EDIT: I never said i'd gladly leave him out. He's been very impressive lately, but Kenny wouldn't put Meireles or Gerrard on the bench.

Yeah, I agree that a 3 man midfield is the best option with those 3, and if we were to bring Ashley Young in, I think we would have to rotate players. For example, of Young, Carroll, Suarez and Kuyt, here are the possibilities:

Young - - - - - - - - - - - - - Suarez
Carroll
Young swinging in crosses, with Suarez playing as a forward or as a winger. When he cuts inside, the LB would cover the wings, putting in crosses.

Kuyt - Carroll - Suarez
A much narrower formation, with Kuyt and Suarez able to cut out onto wings if needs be.

Kuyt - - - - - - - - - - - - Young
Suarez
Not as many crosses needed, with Kuyt and Young both capable of cutting inside.

Kuyt - - - - - - - - - - - - Young
Carroll
Kuyt cutting inside with Johnson/Kelly covering to provide crosses, with Young crossing from the left.

Now, which of those trios sounds most threatening to you? For me, it's between options one and two.

Options One or Two are probably the most threatening. But, Carroll, Suarez and possibly Young didn't join Liverpool just too sit on the bench. So, one of those 3 has gotta sit out once in a while-

Without Young the ideal formation would probably be :

Reina
Kelly/Johnson - Carra - Agger - Coentrao
Gerrard - Lucas Meireles
Kuyt --------------------------------------Suarez
Carroll

If Coentrao were to join. With Young it would probably be like theese :

Reina
Kelly/Johnson - Carra - Agger/Wilson - Coentrao
Gerrard - Lucas - Meireles
Kuyt --------------------------------- Young
Suarez/Carroll

Reina
Kelly/Johnson - Carra - Agger/Wilson - Coentrao
Meireles - Lucas - Young
Gerrard
Carroll/Kuyt - Suarez

Theese are just Possibilties. And i put Wilson in, as i think he's gonna get some more game time in the forseeable future.

Kuyt is NOT a winger - he was shoved out on the right by Rafa cos he didn't have a viable NATURAL winger at the time. If DK's performance against the manures proved anything, it's that he should be upfront, I see him as a standby for Suarez & Carroll. We require a fast skillfull right ( & left) winger to provide ammo for Carroll. Kuyt can't beat a full back as he has no pace & he can't cross effectively. El Pistolero may cut in from wide to work his magic, but he ain't a winger either & IMO would be wasted if he was played as one.

If we had another Mascherano to sweep in front of the back four then that would leave Stevie (if he's not crocked) & Raul to rampage through the middle. Lucas may have greatly improved in the last 18 months, but he's not a hardman who'll dominate attacking midfield opposition The KEY areas to reinforce are a specialist holding midfielder, a left back & left & right NATURAL attacking wingers. All these guys MUST be as good as we can possibly afford; we don't need more poxy squad players - we need proven talent to go straight into the first team.

Lucas has been our best performer this season [Not saying much, but still, has really developed, could be integral to us], I would hate to see him left out also.

Lucas has turned me, I was his harshest critic not long ago.

Ashley Young's over-rated, he's not the type of player who'll deliver great crosses time and time again, he'll mess up a lot of them.

There is no player out there that will never mess up a cross, and I'm by no means saying that Ashley Young is the best crosser in the world. However, compared to our current wingers, Young actually plays a game which does involve crossing, and making some attacking plays too. I personally wouldn't mind seeing him in the red :)

i think carroll was a good signing think of it this way... we got 50 for that spik and payed 35 for Carroll. so we made a 15 mil profit. torres cost 25 mil so we payed 10 mil in a way. British hard working wanting to fight for the club.!!

why rush the decision with kenny wait till end of season, he wont be going anywere else in a hurry. he has us right bk on r feet lets no turn r attentions else were at the moment were still in with a shout for 5th but we need Raul to pull his finger out he hasnt been in it past 3 or 4 weeks.

we need to spend about 60-70mil in summer! cut bk on players such as

skrtel, aurelio, konchesky, aquillani, insua, ngog, poulsen, joe cole. theres a fair few quid bk.

we need centre half, left bk, 2 Wingers ( quick, like getting at full backs,gd crosser of the ball!!!)

classy cm still missing alonso type of player..

what u fink of my very long comment??

I think at the moment, we have to stay optimistic that we can come 5th, but we just need to focus on winning games ourselves, and hope that Tottenham or Man City slip up a few times along the way!

I agree that we need to spend a fair bit of money if we are going to be challenging the top 4 next season, however, I think we should try and hold on to Skrtel, Aquilani, Insua, and perhaps N'Gog.

Top priorities should be left back and wingers that can cross, but I also do agree that a class CM would be nice, although I think our current 3 man midfield is working well, the problem is that it's not quite up there with the likes of Chelsea's midfield as much as it pains me to say. I don't think we really need a CB as that is a strong position for us. We've got Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, Wilson, and Kelly is fine playing there too.

Xabi is a one off - there is no other player quite like him in the game - that's why Madrid shelled out £30mil on him ( which, incidentally, D & D used to pay off THEIR debts ).

I agree with us needing those positions strengthening, but we need a CLASS holding midfield destroyer as well to protect the back four. Surely FSG won't fork out for all those players ? Mind you, they've effectively spent zero net cash on new players since the took over, so we can only hope.

We could make 4th place, if Tottenham and Man City F*ck a couple of games up, and we win the rest, wich i doubt. But 5th place is our best shot, at Europe.

I too agree that we need to spend a good deal of money, but i gotta agree with you. Skrtel, Insua and N'gog should stay. Not so keen on Aquilani though. But Juventus don't wanna pay the agreed price, so he's probably gonna return.

Kyrgiakos should be thrown out imo. He can't play football. But we're well covered on the CB position for now. We need a LB, and 2 good Wingers. Preferbly good crossers. But it ain't gonna be cheap, and i doubt that Fenway Sports Group is gonna give Kenny more than 40 mill. i don't even think they are gonna give him that much. We've just take the money we can get and use it wisely.

judging from what i've just seen.

I wouldn't mind Young & Johnson on our right hand side.

Think Johnson would be a good buy ,he is young and english and surely he must want out of city, how much do you think he would cost us.

Players Supporting Liverpool :

Theo Walcott - English, plays for Arsenal.
Theo has never hidden the fact that he's a massive Liverpool supporter. He started following the club as a youngster because of his father's support for the club. Who knows, he could very well join the club sooner rather than later.
Rio Ferdinand - English, plays for Manchester united.
Rio grew up idolizing John Barnes. The Liverpool influence came about due to the majority of his friends supporting Liverpool. Rio once told MUTV, his club's official TV channel that ''As a kid, Liverpool was the team that were doing well, with the likes of John Barnes and John Aldridge, and United weren't really winning anything.''
Kevin Nolan - English, plays for Newcastle United.
Kevin was born in Toxteth, Liverpool and grew up supporting the Liverpool Football Club. His two favorite players however, were Eric Cantona and Lee Sharpe of Manchester united.
Jari Litmanen - Finnish, currently a Free Agent.
Jari grew up supporting Liverpool and was even signed by Gerard Houllier in 2001, but his days at the club were short lived due to constant injuries. Jari is arguably the best Finnish player of all time.
John O'Shea - Irish, plays for Manchester united.
John supported Liverpool when he was growing up. He is admired at his current club, even though it is widely acknowledged amongst united fans that O'Shea grew up supporting Liverpool.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer - Norwegian, used to play for Manchester united.
Ole grew up supporting Liverpool, but he jumped ship as he signed with Manchester united in July 1996.

LMAO! Most of them are Man Utd players XD
