I'm not even bothered that we didn't get him. That's in part down to ourselves. In part down to dealing with the Ukrainians. That's now dead and I never expected us to be back in for him the summer. But I don't understand, outside of money being the overriding thing to him, why the player himself would want to in effect disappear off the footballing landscape in such an embryonic league. He'd of gotten his big European move the summer as you noted.

China are the new moneyed frontier. Let's not kid ourselves. We might have a storied history, but many came for the money, and still do.
 
If the Brazil NT is all about the sponsors choosing the team it might actually be a good decision for him. China is the new market to conquer and having a superstar player, Brazil('s shirt) will be a lot more popular in China. Also I would think it's not bad living in China as a superstar.

All the above said you do get sick of all the continued outright lies. Not that they're anything new either, but every time it happens you lose a little more faith with anything most say in the game:

Shakhtar just last week "we'll sell only at the end of the season."

Now he goes to China of all places for a reported £38.4 million. As much as we didn't help ourselves with the initial offer, and I'm the very last person to defend Ayre; it's not hard to see all the mixed messages we've gotten through the negotiations.

It's not confirmed as of yet (even though i expect it to be), but it seems very strange as to why Shakhtar included him in their Europa League squad last night
 
Some reports are saying it's a done deal, but so far as I can tell it's only that Shakhtar have accepted the offer. He still has to agree personal terms, and there's a chance he'd rather wait for a better move in July

Reports flying around of £200 K a week AFTER tax.

So if there's any modicum of truth in that he'll be signing and there's the reason why.

Staggering.

And I aren't naive enough to not understand why most would jump at that if it was offered to them. But it still makes a complete mockery of all he's publicly said and how he values his career.

Not anymore. Check the Brazil squad and how many have moved to China. China have already signed half of Brazil, he will have plenty of Brazilians who will be in the world cup squad.

If he picks up an injury or loses form he wouldn't get a move to the UK and the big deal he, is doing what most people do in there careers and taking a massive pay rise over the possibility of a smaller one

Interestingly, it seems it was Klopp himself who declined to pay the asking price - So hopefully he has targets either lined up or already in mind for the summer
 
Not sure why we even tried to target a player like that, bit of a let off in my eyes. Would rather grab someone like Higuain.

Higuain would command at least a 40mil+ fee with wages probably in the 150k+ region aswell


Most players go where the money is, I mean if we had paid 50k more a week to Alexis Sanchez I doubt he'd be playing for Arsenal

I think the point was a more experienced, proven goalscorer more than the high fee.
