Hey now he did look like a headless chicken in his first season playing cm. Testement to Milner and the coaches proving you can still learn a new role even at his age.

Happily hold my hands up on that one.

I was seriously questioning that pick-up at the time. Even on a freebie.

You honestly don't realise what a phenomenal professional, on and off the pitch, James Milner is until he's at your club. I reckon we could mess around with him and tell him Alisson was sick and he'd have to go in nets and he'd happily pick up a pair of gloves and go out and have a real solid game.

And his twitter game is off the charts hilarious haha.

It is crazy, the progression is mental. When Klopp took over his team was so mediocre just looking at the back line it's a bit scary

Clyne, Moreno, Enrique, Sakho, Skrtel, Toure, Lovren, Flanagan.

Aside from him being a complete athletic freak, he's picked his last two clubs/ leagues well hasn't he?

Since he's evolved into an out-and-out #9 the last years, where he barley moves from in front of goal and just does what he does. in a much slower tempo environment, that should save his legs even longer.

I'd imagine Serie A will see another good few years out of him before he goes and takes the P in America.

BTW, talking strikers, I sincerely hope you don't move Lukaku on. Said it plenty of times but he really is the easiest striker to defend we come up again every season. He 'should' be a Drogba. He has every attribute to be that dominating CF. But until he turns up in big games and stops just being a flat track bully against the lesser sides he'll never realise that.

Yeah I hear you, but how he's adapted and put most natural #9s to shame in terms of anticipation, box movement etc. is just silly levels of amazing. Mentality is arguably the greatest I've ever seen too, in all of sport.

Think I saw he has 76 Champions League goal involvements in his last 49 games (goals and assists) - I think I just laughed at how silly it was when I read that.

Mikel Arteta talks to Marca

Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta has sat down for an in-depth interview with Marca.
Arteta enjoyed a magical season with Man City as they won the domestic treble.
In recent weeks, Arteta’s name has been linked with the vacant job at Middlesbrough.
In his Marca interview, Arteta has discussed his future at Man City, what it’s like working with Pep Guardiola, why Liverpool’s Anfield is special, his relationship with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and more.

Why Liverpool’s Anfield is unique

Man City pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2018-19.

Arteta was asked if he was surprised by Liverpool’s challenge last season. He replied:

No, because it is very difficult to beat them. Also, in my playing career, Anfield was the only ground where in which I had the feeling of ‘pájara’, of being stuck.
It happened to me with Arsenal, and we conceded five… You say: ‘I do not know what’s going on, stop the game, please, because I do not know where I am’.
It’s hard to explain, but it never happened to me anywhere other than Anfield.
Barça surprise me by the form of some of their goals, but at Anfield you can concede five without knowing.
Neither in Spain nor in Greece or Germany did I have that feeling. Not even in Old Trafford.
