The Manchester United Thread

True, but we can't have a developing goalkeeper and a developing defence then wonder why we're struggling.

It just totally baffles me right now how we can of put so little focus on the heart of our team by not bringing in an experienced CB of some sort, I'd even of taken Shawcross, not a big name but he offers a lot we're lacking right now.

Even someone like Matip or Howedes from Schalke.

What I'd give to have Vidic still, that collapse wouldn't of happened with him in the heart of our team.

Players constantly develop. De Gea is very good goalkeeper and he's still improving. Thats the difference between being decent as Blackett is and being very good, one of the best United players in last 2 years. It's still the same goalkeeper who's now expressing himself more and more.

Mike, he does it more nowdays. But he still has a lot of work on that segment.

Sunil, there's a difference yelling when you're mad and when you're level headed.

he yells when he is level headed. Maybe its because last year i had feeds that didnt just follow the ball, but he is a lot better at this than he is given credit for. It's also easier when your defenders are a consistent pairing.

I just think its ridiculous to put this on De Gea, when its the defenders not stepping up

I'll repeat. He does, but he doesn't do that enough. He'll get there.

But what has that got to do with the De Gea?

The players are good enough, whether they are fit enough is another thing entirely.

Being good enough includes the whole package, if players fitness/injuries constantly prevents them from playing 5 games in a row then they are not at a good enough level as they'll never achieve what they are potentially capable of.

I mention De Gea because you can't focus on a defence without looking at the goalkeeper as well, it's all connected in some way, perhaps he deserved no blame whatsoever against Leicester but I think he has admitted he had a poor game.

De Gea gives me the impression that he is a shy person, which if true, would explain his reluctance to yell at team mates, or his lack of commanding presence. Had the same problem when i was a kid, but it's not something you can;t work on.

I would disagree; you can adapt to it if you need to and you have the drive to succeed. I'm a fairly introverted person in my normal life, but put me into any competitive environment and I become incredibly bossy and assertive because it's necessary. Ask Nick Chelsea if you don't believe me!

That really depends on the person. I hate it when even the simplest of games turns into a competition, it stresses me out.

Was wondering how long it would take before the De Gea bashing would start on here. WOW.... Thought I had seen it all on Redcafe but boy was I wrong!

Interestingly de vrij isn't playing well at Lazio, neither is Indi at Porto (who I wanted). Find good defenders is tough these days

Indi is erratic and I wasnt that impressed by him in the WC. But yes there are no class cbs who jump to mind - even PIQUE has drastically regressed fffs.

Somebody has asked about GARAY. The wife is Russian so I keep up with Russian footy. He's been quite decent but Russian footy is not of high quality/intensity.

Btw:

Said Sam Allardyce: "He (David Moyes) will obviously look at what he might have done better but he should have got the players he wanted and he tells me he didn't get any of them."

Poor Marouane Fellaini.

We need either a commanding goalkeeper or someone commanding in the defence I said, at the moment we have neither.

De Gea has his strengths but communication, organisation and filling his defence with confidence is not any of them IMO.

zzeezzy, mate: For. ****'s. Sake.

Take a prozac or summat ...

Can't blame him. Once you've seen Schmeichel command the backline, everyone else will look like a little boy who accidently wandered on the pitch.

If we play any sort of back 4 consiting of rafael, fletcher, rojo, shaw or thorpe we are getting mullered.

4-3 west ham.

We don't have any option.

Btw anyone is thinking that Fellaini might be a good option for CB? At least as a stop gap..

Nevermind the players, steve mcnally wants looking at shocking injuries and recovery rates since he's been head doc or the players are just injury prone and there is not much you can do.

TBH I would not want Fletcher,Fellaini or Carrick at CB if Smalling is defo out I would have no problem with Thorpe playing. Rather that than a CM being shoe horned into a CB!
